Hey all just thought id tell you guys about a race between my 14 DSG S4 and my buddies 2013 WRX STI. Was coming home from work tonight when my buddy calls and says he just got a an Sti and we should meet up. I tell him I'm getting off work and after checking out his car we decide to do a couple pulls to see how both cars do. To put it short . . ..i took him pretty bad. My car is running Roc Euro intake and Chipwerke Piggy back and I pulled hard on him on all 3 pulls. We also did a stoplight race entering the freeway (no cars around, not many cars in Mex) and I Must of left him by more than 10-15 car lengths from 0- 100. Impressive to say the least! Videos coming shortly. Who knew streets in border towns in Mexico were Really good!
Haven't had a chance to dyno my car or run 1/4 mile times but the Gains on the Chipwerke are noticable and my buddy is a pretty good driver so no doubt my car is performing well.

This shouldn't come as a surprise given your mods.

Those subarus can make a ton of power though with the right mods.

HaHa! Nice runs. I had one play with me over the weekend from 75mph or so. Let's just say he may as well have been driving a civic.

Given my car isn't exactly even stage 1 I was happy to see I took care of him with ease . It was deff surprising since its still an STI, thought I would beat him but not as bad. He's stock for now but honestly after driving fbo STI's I doubt he could beat me him with my piggyback lol

DSG Ftw! , S4's are notoriously underated. My guess with the Intake and Piggyback 370ish (: Cant wait for a proper Stage 1 with DSG softwear

No of course not, and even without your piggy back you would have beat him. Stock, you have like 25 more HP than him.

I came from an '11 STI to my '15 DSG S4. No question you were going to stomp him. Now, were he to do intake/dp/exhaust and a protune you should be more scared. Weight also does the S4 no favors. My STI swapped '00 Impreza has almost 50hp less than my S4, but it'd be a pretty good race considering it weighs <3000lbs.

Even stock you would walk him pretty bad. They put down like 230 - 240 whp stock, your car has about 300 wheel HP stock.

People love to fap over Sti's and WRX's but in stock form, they really are not fast. The only thing they will do well in stock form is run to 60 quick if you're willing to drop your clutch at 5K RPM and beat the crap out of the car.

stock for stock from a dig, I would like to see. They can be launched, stock, with nearly full boost. Its nearly 500lbs lighter... both cars have about a 1:12.6 power to weight ratio (if the s4 has 300whp, which I've never read from a citable source that it does). That said, the 2015+ WRX is faster than the STi. They are fast, and about 20k cheaper. I don't believe that the same results would've happened with an equally modified STi, or WRX. Don't sleep on one, you'll loose you wallet.

Peak HP and as mentioned the S4 close to 15% heavier... STi doesn't have a gear ratio favorable for drag races, but whatev's.

Its fun to race against them.. not to knock some wind out of your sails but the STi is slower than the WRX... DSG is an advantage definitely.

    Are you tuned?

The STI must have something wrong, probably the driver..

Stock for Stock they run similar quarter mile times, however, 0-100mph the STI is quicker, I think.

    Best regards,

Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone

Nope not tuned. Currently running the Chipwerke Piggyback and A roc euro intake. We did a couple runs, one from a dig, and one from 20 to 80mph And beat him solidly on both. My buddy is a good driver and a Subie/Nismo enthusiast and I'm sure the STI stage 2 would of been a good run. To th people in for videos I will meet up with him today and edit the videos since there kind of long and post links to the Youtube channel

You say you aren't tuned but the chipwerke is doing essentially the same a stage 1 tune would do, which is keep the bypass valve shut. So you are seeing close to, if not as much, hp gain from the chipwerke.

S4's trap 105 +, STi's low 100's. The only problem with quoting HP/Weight is that it doesn't translate. The S4 does not have 333 HP, and is positively underrated. Most reasonable estimate have it stock around 360 crank.

    http://www.quattroworld.com/wp-conte...s_sae_all1.gif

While Sti's are not under rated, and genuinly make about 300 HP, evidenced by their weak dyno's, most about 240 wheel.

The only chance the Suby has is a perfect launch. If the driver bogs even a little the S4 will walk it, just like it would from a roll race.

To this point, that was my other point. In daily driving, they are burdened with a turbo 4. Tq curve sucks, and have nothing off idle. I hate magazine racing, but just look at the 5-60 times of those things. The torque cruve sucks, and if you don't launch it at full boost at, 5K RPM you aren't getting near what the magazines post as their 60 time.

You're right. I had to go back to my time slips and dyno logs. I thought I had pre-tune time slips with higher trap speeds. I didn't... 99-102mph. Only problem with judging subies is that almost all of them are tuned because it is so inexpensive and it's almost the only way to not ruin your motor.

I know this is kind of off topic but is the Roc Euro really loud with normal city driving? I know the whine is super loud at WOT but what about under normal acceleration?

It's as loud as you make it. Under 2k rpm it's almost silent. Above that you always hear the whine but if u stay under 3.5k it's Suttle. Above that it, loud enough to hear all the way to the sound turns heads at wot. Defiantly the loudest.

lay off the fun zone and you'll be fine , noise kicks up in relation to throttle position and rpm

At low 2k rpm does it sound like cheap stereo whine? My awe exhaust just sounds like that... All the time... Annoying

Very funny. "I'll get him on the highway"!

Your best bet is the exact opposite of that champ.

That was a complete massacre, I was expecting it to be at least a little respectable.

In all honesty I thought the STI would do a bit better since it weighs a good deal less than the S4 (nearly 4000 pounds). But yes I really did smoke him in all runs wasn't expecting to pull the way I did tbh

You should remove the chipwerk, let it adapt and try again with vid. I think most of us would like to see stock vs stock.

Nice. If your buddy's anything like me his car won't take stay stock for long. Every race I lost led to more and more power adders. Time for stage 2 maybe? Gotta stay one step ahead..

Before buying my S4, I daily drove and raced my 2007 Subaru STI. I competed in SCCA autocross events at the national level. The car had a lightly built motor (forged pistons) and basically every bolt on, except for a larger turbo. Fully tuned with bolt-ons the car made 353whp 413wtq.

My S4 is bone stock with an AWE catback and it feels a tiny bit slower. The STI weighed in at 3150 lbs and had noticeably more torque. The S4 is a solid 700 lbs heavier, without driver. :(

^ Interesting numbers from the land of the rising sun.

The S4 and A4 are cows compared to that car weight. Guess the B9 *might* address those issues.

I have always wondered how the mighty little 2.5 liter Subi could make so much HP. Seems they have the economy of scale model nailed.

Nobody really mods the B8 like they do with Honda and Acura and Subaru and Mitsubishi. Strange.

Hopefully that will change with CTS and APR and others and the EFR kit for A4's.

The S4's, well we have Westwest to lean on! Haha!

    I kinda miss that joker!

    I recommend getting the Roc Euro intake for sound, def lets the supercharger be heard if you dip into the revs. As far as your car feeling a bit slower compared to your subie, the S4 is noticeably heavier then the STI however tuning (even a piggyback) helps get that heavy girl moving (;
