    Hey guys,
I have been eating antifreeze slowly but surely since I bought my car a couple months ago. Well last Saturday I started blowing smoke real bad and went through my whole expansion tank of antifreeze in a day. So I did a compression check and my middle cylinder on the drivers side is low. It reads 120 psi when the rest read 150 psi. When I pulled the spark plug on that cylinder the plug was a little beat up from something passing through the cylinder. So this weekend I'm pulling the motor and checking the turbos. I have found a motor from a 2005 allroad with the 2.7t. Will I be able to use this motor for my car if needed? Thanks for any insight. Ben.

Well good news then! Is there anything that's different? The motor comes with the harness so obviously I'll be using mine from my car but any sensors I need to swap or be aware of?

If it's from an auto car you will have two EGR valves, you might want to look into deleting those if your car is a manual. There is also a spacer on the rear crank face you gotta whack off with a mallet iirc. Other than that you should be good to go.

What color smoke? White? Blue? Black?

That says alot about what's burning. What you are describing sounds like you may just have a blown head gasket. If you run the engine with the coolant res cap off, are you seeing any bubbles? They also make a tool that uses a special fluid, it will indicate hydrocarbons coming through your cooling system.
Stock engine with some rods tossed in. 11.25@132mph.

Yes they are BEL, the only differences is the ECU and harness/coilpacks, everything else is the same.

2005 is BEL. If it's from an automatic car, it will have new-style turbos requiring different downpipes.

You'll have to swap the valve covers, too, I think.

    Derp, yep...

The damn turbos are a bit different, thus the downpipes. If he's just swapping the motor itself then he's good to go, the manifolds are the same. The valve covers are also different.

Yes, it will fit. I just put a bf bel from an 05 a6 into my 02 s4. Fairly easy, just swapped everything over from my apb block.

there was nothing that needed whacked off on the bel I swapped over. Could have been gone already? I also deleted the egr, just made a couple block off plates at work

Yep and nope, easy swap imo

Not quite, there are small things like the grounds under the im. Different plugs so they won't fit the s4 harness. Had to swap them out after I'd already mounted the manifold the aux h20 pump plug is different too

can't say about this, I used the turbos from my apb. All mounted fine though. You will need to swap vc's if you are using your s4 harness.

Are you talking about the knock sensors?

Assuming he swaps all wiring and the VC's it will be plug and play.

Yes, thank you I was struck for words and couldn't think of what I was trying to spit out lol.

Plug and play, but again make sure you use your aux water pump or you'll be fighting it from under the manifold. The plug on the aux pump from the bel has a d shaped plug, and the apb is square

Im pulling the motor tonight and I should have the new motor by next weekend. while its out of the card Im going to replace the water pump, thermostat and timing belt, cam chain tensioners and seals and caps, crank seals, valve cover gaskets, snub mount, serpentine belt. Anything im missing while its out? common failures? Blauparts a good stop for parts? any parts brand far more superior then another? thanks again for the help already!

Probably should add rear main seal to your list, and change the o-rings on all of your coolant pipes that go from your block to the back of the heads

I like to use autohausaz, I do about 80% of my shopping there. They do free shipping on orders $75 and up, but the shipping speed is about as fast as my car was without the motor in it.

As far as brands, I try to stick as close to oem as possible, but if I ever second guess a brand I just do a search to see what others' exeriences have been.
