    I just picked up a 1999.5 1.8 Quattro for a winter car

Noob here. I had an 07 RS4 before but sold that for a 2009 CTS-V which goes into storage about now. I needed a good daily for driving up here in the Minnesota winters so I picked up a Quattro 1.8 because I really like Audi's. I know my way around wrenching on GMs, but have not done really anything on Audi's. My first fix on this car was the oil leak by the oil cooler. I bought a oil cooler seal and fixed that when I did my first oil change on it. She doesn't leak a drop now. I think that's why the previous guy got rid of it.

Since I can never not mod a car I've got some minor plans for this one. The car came with a stage 1 tune on it. The guy I bought it from didn't know what kind it was or who installed it. It was done previously to him owning it. On the boost gauge I see a max of about 13psi.

    Some questions:

I wanted to do a test pipe and downpipe to the Milltek exhaust. How come some companies call the pipe after the turbo a test pipe(034 motorsports) and APR calls it a downpipe?
For the CEL, should I just get the 90 degree that 034 sells for the O2 bung?
    What does the diverter do?
I need to replace the drivers front fender. How hard is it? Do I need to just remove the front bumper cover and the bolts that hold on the fender?
What about the trim piece on the bottom of the fender? I'd like to pop that off on the other side and hit that fender with the DA and then put that black undercoating type stuff that comes factory along the bottom of the doors and fenders.

If anybody has a nice facelift Santorin Blue fender or fenders hit me up.

There is a in depth YouTube video on fender removal. It's pretty easy.

This is way easier than texting me lol

For CEL, I would personally try to find someone to code it out. If you don't want to deal with that, you can try the spacer. It is easy.

Diverter valve releases pressure after throttle body closes and reroutes back to the turbo inlet, but after the MAF since the MAF has already accounted for that air.

Also, looks like I will have a couple weeks of downtime around Christmas if you want to drive up and take care of a couple things like the PCV stuff.

So sad that yuo have to store such a monster. I couldnt leave it just stored away all winter. Im throwing winter tires on the AMG and if it gets real bad I can drive the wife's car.

I had a test pipe once. I used the RAI j-bung and had zero issues with a cel coming on.
It'll whistle a little bit out of the exhaust which I liked, made it sound like I had a big turbo but I was only running a k03 at the time.lol

    - Typically the pipe after the turbo is a catalytic converter if you care about the environment. If you purchased a cat back exhaust from Miltek, it should have everything behind the cat, some include the Downpipe and some don't. Ideally, when selecting exhaust components you want to have same diameter throughout.

    - You can purchase a test pipe or high flow cat (HFC) and pair it with your Miltek catback exhaust.

FWIW, I have the 034 Test pipe to give me that full turbo back exhaust setup on my B5.Also have a bung spacer, which essentially spaces out your 02 sensor to prevent getting a CEL.

We don't have emission testing here in Minnesota and a few enthusiasts that remove the cat/cats from their cars doesn't raise my concern level about the environment.

I like 034's test pipe and downpipe. It looks like the Milltek that someone put on the car previously, starts at the bottom of the downpipe and is 3". Hopefully with the spacer I won't get the CEL.

My car came with a CTS Test pipe and I had CEL from it. So did the non fouler mod from the B5 FAQ/DIY section and haven't had a CEL since. It was cheap and easy.

As for the diverter valve, are you sure it's stock? I only ask, because most tuners recommend upgrading at the time of chipping because the stock valve won't hold up with the increased boost pressure. Since you're chipped, it may have been upgraded for you already.

    Congrats on the car.

Being that you're only touching 13psi, I would question a possible boost leak somewhere. Depending on what tune you have, you should be seeing closer to 17-20 while stock is only 7-8. I would perform a boost leak test to check it out.

    I thought a stage1 tune was about 12-13psi.

It's not that bad of deal. It gives you time to detail it, do mods slowly and correctly, and also keeps the miles down.

This winters plans are a fairly large cam upgrade. I did a dyno session a couple of weeks ago and was at 606/629. I'm hoping with the cam and some better tuning to get it up to 650hp to the wheels.

Both the APR and GIAC tunes on my old B5's were around 20psi

I will have to do a leak test to see if I'm losing any boost. Thanks for all the replies.
