Just did all my vag com on new 2013. Everything is the same. I found 1 new item, you can change the brightness on the drls. They come set on 9%, you can increase up to 100%. It's pretty awesome.

    VIM (Video In Motion)
***** NOTE**** Apparently this method will not work for the newest 3G units. If and when someone figures out

how to generate a security code I will update the site.
Without a unit to test I can not help crack the coding on it.

This article talks about and includes the instructions to enable Video In Motion. Basically it's enabling

the MMI's ability to continue playing either the TV or DVD while the car is moving. This would be very handy

for passengers because we would never watch TV or a DVD while driving right!!! There are laws regulating

video being available to drivers so use this at your own risk and for testing only.

I am not the originator of this but it's found in an unlikely location and thought it would be good to

duplicate it in case the original site ever went down. To see the original site this came from go here.

In order to enable this feature on your system you have to acquire a special log in code for the security

portion of the coding. The original site has an online version you can use but also provided a windows

program to do the same thing. Since I don't have the coding for the page I have included the program on my

site for you to download. Of course the advantage of having the program on your computer is you don't have

to be connected to the internet during your installation.

You will require Microsoft's .NET Framework 3.5 to use this program (most will have it ). Don't worry if you

don't have it you will be prompted to download it from Microsoft during the installation.
Either go to my download page or click here to download it.

*If you are using a VAS 505x use channel 001 to retrieve the serial number (first field). You must remove

the leading zero from the generated login-code (4 digits instead of 5).

    Manually Decoding Your Security Code:

Thanks to Rene Larsen for passing along this information.
The first step is to retrieve the serial number of the MMI.

    For MMI 2G go to:
    [07 - Control Head]

    For MMI 3G go to:
    [5F - Information Electr.]

For the purpose of this sample we will use a made up serial number of : 331CE098765432

    Serial number: 204GO0C7513142

The digit order shows what order the number of the serial number will be put in for the security code. i.e.

1 is the first digit 3 would be the 3rd digit of the security code. There are 2 possible codes which is why

there are 2 separate combinations shown

    Login code #1
    Digit order:
    XXXXX1xxx35X24
    204GO0C7513142 <-- My Serial Number -spl1011

    04123

    Login code #2 (alternative code)
    Digit order: XXXXX1xxx234X5

    Code #1 = 03625
    331CE098765432
    XXXXX1xxx35X24

    Code #2 =06542
    331CE098765432
    XXXXX1xxx234X5

Simply take the security code you retrieved and substitute it for the generated code in the instructions

    below.

    Instructions 2G:

    1.Select control module 07 in VAG-COM/VCDS
    2.Select "Advanced ID - 1A"
3.Submit the value from the "Serial number" field into the program. If there is more than one serial number

    field, use the first one!
    4."Security Access - 16"
5.Enter the personal login-code provided by the VIM Program.
6.Press "Do It!". If you receive a "code not valid" message try the alternate code. If neither code works

it's likely that your control module doesn't support VIM adaptation.
    7.Select "Adaptation - 10"
    8.Select channel 63
    9.Press read
    10.Set the value to 255
    11.Press test
    12.Press save
13.Press "Done, Go Back", close the controller and quit the software
    14.Now reset the MMI.
This is done by pushing down the Setup – Scroll Wheel and top right menu buttons at the same time. Press all

three at the same time then release.

    15.Optional Restart Method for MMI 2G: 1.Select control module 07 in VAG-COM/VCDS
    2.Select "Adaptation - 10"
    3.Select channel 111
4.Test & save the value 1 into this channel
    5.Press "Done, Go Back"

    Instructions 3G:

    1.Select control module 5F in VAG-COM/VCDS
    2.Select "Advanced ID - 1A"
3.Submit the value from the "Serial number" field into the program. If there's more than one serial number,

    use the first one!
    4.Select "Security Access - 16"
5.Enter the personal login-code provided by the VIM Program.
6.Press "Do It!". If you receive a "code not valid" message try the alternate code. If neither code works

it's likely that your control module doesn't support VIM adaptation.
    7.Select "Adaptation - 10"
    8.Select channel 48
    9.Press read
    10.Set the value to 255 (spl1011- Was "0")
    11.Press test
    12.Press save
13.Press "Done, Go Back", close the controller and quit the software
    14.Now reset the MMI.
This is done by pushing down the Setup – Scroll Wheel and top right menu buttons at the same time. Press all

three at the same time then release.

******************* Shorter DVD Instruction Set: Should be the same as above. ****
    Enable VIM on MMI

    COM-codes/page12

    Double tone on unlock:

With the double confirm tone, it's about the same. Although I did my best to try following the steps

translated on the (awesome) a6retrofit site, to no avail:

    Quoted from the site:

EuroDan has confirmed that one can also enable a dual opening beep by changing the value on adapter channel

63 (in module 46) from 40 to 44 (or, judging by the link/info in the next text, adding 4 to whatever value

you have there). (Old text about this: According to an unconfirmed post at motor-talk.de (http://www.motor-

talk.de/forum/codie...3.html?page=57), one can also enable opening dual beeps in addition to a closing beep.

The instructions are: "Komfortsystem (Adresse 46) / Anpassung / Zentralverriegelung Funktionen -> zum

eingetragenen Wert +4 addieren" which translates to "Comfort System (address 46) / adjust / add central

functions -> to the registered value +4".)

So, didn't look as simple as the other "check the box" long coding MODS.

I was worried that I'd break it, lol. I don't really understand what I am guessing the above to reference as

"adaptation." I added 4 to the number, and the software asked if I was sure I wanted to do that... so I just

hit YES and hoped for the best. It didn't break anything so far as I could see, but it also didn't enable

the double beeps. I changed it back just to be sure.

If anyone could shed some light on this, I would really appreciate it. This forum is great and all of you

    guys are awesome, BTW.

    Thanks Much!
David Well -- I figured it out! At least the second part...

After I wrote this, I noticed the wording in my quote of a6retrofit's instructions: Change the value of

channel 63 of module 46. I had missed that part originally, and was just changing the value of the first

    channel.

Indeed, I added 4 to the valuse in channel 63 and it worked! Thanks!

There are several fora and websites which give info on how to access the hidden menu to activate other nice

googling and lots of reading I found an owner called Mike with a similar issue who had found a different

method which he's kindly shared and I thought I post here for all in case you want it and to save searching.

Firstly the secret menu must be enabled with VCDS beforehand.

    [5F - Information Electr.]
    [Adaptation - 10] -> Channel 6 -> Change 0 to 1
    Save and Exit.

    Next -

Press/Hold car & setup at same time for approx 6 seconds (setup button red light goes out)
Release both buttons then press setup again.

To exit the Hidden Menu you need to restart the MMI -

Press and hold down the function keys (Setup), the control button (Joystick centre button) and the control

key at the top right simultaneously until the MMI system shuts down. Release the keys and the MMI system

    reboots.

    2013 a4 can't connect to any controllers!

My vagcom cannot connect to any control modules but tests fine with excellent latency and it does detect the interface too. I'm using a cheap "dummy" cable that worked fine on my previous 2012 A3. On the new 2013 a4 I'm using the newest software and drivers, and as said earlier it connect to the car and passes as well as detects the interface but will not let me connect to any controls. Any ideas anyone?

VAG-COM USB 2.0 Active Extension Cable (16 feet, 5 meters)

This VAG-COM USB 2.0 Active Extension Cable is used to extend the reach of a Ross-Tech USB Interface from the computer to the vehicle. It connects between the USB port on the computer to the USB plug on the interface. The length of this cable is 16 feet or 5 meters.

It is constructed of high quality signal cable and active repeater electronics which boost the USB signal for maximum reliability and performance over extended distances.

Up to two (2) of these cables can be plugged together to extend the reach of a Ross-Tech interface to a maximum of 38 feet (12m). Ross-Tech has tested and certified this length of extension. Lengths beyond 38 feet on the USB cables are neither recommended nor supported.

Please Note: these are the only USB extension cables Ross-Tech will support at this time. They have tested them extensively and found them to perform to their standards.
