I have been building my B5 S4 and its kinda got out of hand. I needed a daily and this poped up. The problem I have is I can't leave a vehicle alone, I'm going to try to be good with this one, lol. I want a nice clean driver, I'll post more pics tomorrow...

So after getting it on the lift at work, I actually got a good look at what I purchased. It appears to be in pretty decent shape, apart from normal stuff like axle boots, upper control arms. I'm a maintenance buff, so timing belt kit, valve cover and tensioner gaskets have been ordered. It had an exhaust leak at the flex, a buddy installed a new piece.

Modifications thus far, H&R springs Bilstein struts, Magnaflow cat back. It also has a 034 pcv hose. I was also excited when I found the original window sticker in with the manual.

Looks good. Almost identical for my car except for the paint code. How loud is the Magnaflow? I've been looking for a Milltek, but will consider Magnaflow if it's stealth. Also, pic of interior?

Just realised i called your car cute. Haha. Even though it's not an s4, call it a b5 thing. Reliable daily driver if you keep it like that. My car is decently modified. And as much as i enjoy the extra power, many times i wish i just kept it more simple. Dont let the mod bug bite too hard. Even though you have an S4, the bug can still bite once you want that extra pep.

Right! I hate the digital driving experience new cars give. The B5 is analog at its best...

Milltek is better in my opinion, materials and craftsmanship just are not the same with Magnaflow. It does sound good though, vary quiet in the car, windows up not a sound. Outside the car it sounds very refined, and european.

The sun was in a pad place in the photos. The interior is clean but has its flaws. The shifter surround is peeling, and the headliner is sagging in the back. I will sand and paint the trim pieces that need it. Any options on the headliner?

FT mixed flow for the 1.8t and you are roughly 300whp (completely stock block with supporting mods). Best bang for the buck. Old Guy from the B6 section owns the test car (real world dd testing) and hes satisfied. That guy is all about reliability and he gave it the stamp of approval, which means a lot.

    For the headliner, you can probably redo it with new fabric. Refer to this thread below if you are interested in OE headliner look;

I have F21's on my S4 and I am very happy with both performance and reliability. I was looking into pricing and the kit manifold and all is only a grand. When the Ko3 goes south that's the plan for sure.

I hate the the stereo myself, It looks completely out of place. I'm actually looking for the stocker. The driver seat did split at the seem, it's just further up. I have a friend that does interior work, he assured me it could be repaired at a good price.

Thanks for the link, I definitely like oem appearance.

Have a look at my build thread. I used a spudger and purple power to scrape off the shift boot surround and expose the bare plastic. If you don't do it too hard, you won't scratch the plastic. The bare hard plastic is much better than the torn up "soft touch" finish.

Your car has come a long way man, congratulations.

That is really cool, I thought I would need to sand down the soft touch. My S4 came standard with wood trim, I hate that shit. When I converted to sport trim I was stuck with wood in the center console and shifter. I actually used plasti dip, the color is dead on and it has held up really well. I'm planing the same here.

I will definitely take the tip on removing the soft touch. Here's a pic of S4 when it was done.

Extremely clean. The paint stands out the most to me for some reason, looks very well kept.

What's up with the rear view in the S4? Looks out of place with the sharp angles.

Thanks, the paint is definitely in good shape, but get close enough and you can tell it's 15 years old.

Good eyes with the rearview, it's a Broadway clip on mirror. It definitely stands out, but its always my first mod, visibility is awesome.

Ok after a good cleaning, thanks slunky! I applied four coats of plasti dip, I think it looks great. It kinda mimics the original soft touch.

Your stock dv will take a dump on you. Upgrade it. And replace your stock braided lines with silicon ones while you are at it. Kill two birds at the same time before they present themselves.

I gave the coil springs a closer look and found they are new speed race springs. I am really amazed at how well this car handles. It's hard for me to say but it handles better then my S4, much less under steer and it just feels planted.

I have put a lot of money in the S4 suspention. I don't know if it's the weight savings upfront, or if the ST's just suck.

I might go back to springs and Bilstein's on the S4.

About to finally get to work on this car. All seals/gaskets, timing belt kit, rebuild the front axles, and new control arms.

The coil harness is shot so I picked one up from 034.

Nice pick up. Did you stumble on an 01 by chance or design? Serious plans to make it faster or just speculation now?

It was definitely a chance find, The guy I picked it up from needed a truck, I happend to have one. I left the fact that I only paid $300 for it out of course, lol.

Just maintenance right now, I went stage one to give it a bit more pep. The plan when the K03 goes is the f21 mixed flow. When the turbo is cold it makes some noise, so this could all happen sooner than later.

You got the best year. A4's differ by year in a way S4's do not.

Do yourself a favor and change the clutch before any type of turbo upgrade. Although I've only owned two 1.8t's, neither of them could handle even chipped power without the clutch slipping.

That's good info, I usually stockpile parts for a build. When something goes I do everything at once. A clutch is definitely on the list.

Do yourself a favor and change the clutch before any type of turbo upgrade. Although I've only owned two 1.8t's, neither of them could handle even chipped power without the clutch slipping.
Is the stock clutch really that weak? Mine grabs pretty hard and seems like it could handle a tune no problem. Then again mine has about 15k miles on it... What kind of mileage were on yours?

The first clutch was on 130k when I got it tuned. Slipped right away. The avant was on around 20k maybe and slipped worse.
