Ran some logs today for a top secret project. I've been meaning to check out my IATs since installing the new Treadstone TR8 intercooler, so I made some graphs I thought you guys might be interested in as well. Ambient temps were around 80 degrees F, so around 26 C.

    2nd gear pull:

    3rd gear pull:

Max temps in the 2nd gear pull were only 33 degrees C while staying pretty much steady between 30 and 32 during the entire pull, actually getting colder at higher RPMs. That's 6-10 degrees F over ambient through the entire RPM range at 20-23 PSI.

Max temps in the 3rd gear pull hit 35 degrees C, rising from a baseline of 30 C. The temps stayed steady until 5k RPMs at which point they rose to 35 and then quickly dropped to below baseline (29 C) when letting off the throttle. That's 6-15 degrees F over ambient through the entire RPM range at 20-23 PSI.

Pretty damn impressive performance from a $250 intercooler.

6 speed tiptronic. Don't know if it has the official Audi Launch Control™ system, but nevertheless the mechanics of brake-torquing and launching is still the same. Can usually get off the line pretty quickly (see webm of unofficial ~4.2 second 0-60), but wasn't able to nail down the timing with the tree at the track. Next trip up there I'm going to completely disregard reaction times and just go when I'm good and ready. There's just such a small window between hitting a high enough RPM to be able to launch it and the brakes starting to break free causing me to inch forward.

It's cause you hold them on Sundays. I'm way too busy nursing hangovers and watching football.

If you wanna meet up at the dragway in Epping some Friday night this month then I'd be down for that.

    1) What application are you using to log and graph? I like it.
    2) Nice IC data. I logged my commute to work this morning and my Eurocode IC is giving me between 33-37* at speed. I should do a comparison pull to see how it stacks up.

    1) I'm using the Eurodyne Maestro software to create the logs, and then opening the .csv files in Openoffice to create the graphs.
    2) Not bad, what was the temp outside? Definitely should run logs doing some pulls. I'd like to do some while doing a 1/4 mile pass but I don't know if the track allows laptops to be hanging out on passenger seats. I know they don't allow similar things like non-permanently attached cameras, but they also have test and tune nights and I'd imagine people would need to be logging during those.

Nice, is there a reason why you're shifting so soon? Better times that way? I'd imagine so with the K03 and E85 as you're probably making most of your power relatively early.

I don't make it to the track very often (or at all) unfortunately. I should make a trip though.

That video was on a public road - I was paying more attention to the road in that case. I shifted based off of feel and you're absolutely right that the power delivery tapers off significantly towards redline.

Yeah I normally keep it in sport mode while doing this. I'd try M if I had paddle shifters, but drag racing I'd prefer to keep both my hands on the wheel if I can help it.

The shift points in S are good anyway. I doubt I could improve on them doing it manually. And it's not like I can even rev higher in M cause the damn thing just shifts for me if I get up near redline anyway.

Yeah when I try third gear pulls for data logging it's the same thing you try cruising in M at 3k rpms then punch it and it down shifts for me. Should of got a standard

Had a fun day up in the White Mountains, screwing around the Kankamagus peeping some leaves.

Then on the way back I had my helmet with me and stopped by the track for a few to see if I could improve on my shitty 60' times and get into the 12s.

Well, I'll let the slips do the talking.

1.8 60' times (up from 2.1) and hit a best time of 12.7 @ 106 on 93 in full trim. Even had my spare tire in the trunk with a few quarts of oil on standby. I guess that makes this the fastest B8 A4 with a posted slip? Man this thing screams. And to think, just a few months ago it was bone stock running 15s. Hopefully gonna head back up next weekend and see what this bad boy can do with some race fuel.

    Dashcam video of run

I had also been talking to Doug at Frankenturbo about fine tuning my F23L Eurodyne tune to try to squeeze a few more tenths out of this thing after my last trip up to the track. I was a little disappointed with the 13.1 and wanted to see if I could give it just a little bit extra to push it over the edge. However, after doing a bit of logging and sending the results over to Doug, it became apparent that the base file I'm running from the Eurodyne Maestro Suite was pretty much perfect already, so there wasn't a whole lot we could do. In fact, we didn't do anything. Same tune, same car, same everything. It's amazing what a difference a good launch makes.

Anyway, here are a few graphs Doug drew up based on the logs I sent over.

These were all taken from a 3rd gear pull on an 80 degree day (the same data from these logs I drew up myself)

So yeah, if you want to go fast, get a Frankenturbo and Eurodyne tune. You won't be disappointed.

Yeah like I said you won't be disappointed. This setup is no joke. And did you end up getting a HFC to go with the new IC?

Maybe I missed it but you have any whp/torque figures? Last time I talked to Doug I think he was claiming roughly 315awhp with 100 octane/watermeth?

Looks like a solid setup though!

Not yet, wanted the 12 second slip before I did any dyno time because if it didn't hit 12s then I wasn't done. Now that I'm satisfied with its performance for the time being I'll probably hit up the dyno sometime within the next month or so.

Add race fuel and you have the door opened to more boost, especially at the top end where the boost duty settings allow boost to coast towards 20psi. The turbo can carry well over that on this platform, but you need a fuel that's highly resistant to the knock/detonation that arises at that level. But for the street and everyday use, Chris Tapp really delivered a terrific base file. Just flash it in your driveway and enjoy.

    Thanks for the positive posts.

Me too, but that'd last maybe about 3 seconds before I had to spend the next 2 hours picking pieces of my drivetrain up off the road. That'd be interesting actually, I wonder what would blow up first..

Looks like I'll probably need an additional tune then, so I suppose I'll hold off on the race fuel for now and just see if I can take advantage of some even cooler weather and possibly dip further into the mid-12s. My 12.7 run was even a mph slower than my original PR run of 13.1 (106 vs 107), so I'm sure it's still got a bit left in the tank, so to speak.

Sorry man, no can do. It's the Shabbat. The one day a week when I get to sit on my ass and watch football all day without having to do a god damn thing. I've met up with a few people up at the track though, so if you want to see it run that'd probably be your best bet. Either that or wait till after football season's over.

Sure did...ETA, mid next week. Unfortunately I'll be doing a 1/2 marathon over the weekend so the install will have to wait until the following weekend.

But for the street and everyday use, Chris Tapp really delivered a terrific base file. Just flash it in your driveway and enjoy.

Any chance that you've tried tuning with meth yet Doug?

Great results from the F32L though! Awesome to see another product/option for our platform.

Just got back from the track again. Best run was a 12.6 @ 107.

Only got 4 runs in, but they were all better than my previous best.

Finally learned how to launch it so my 60' times are getting pretty consistent too. I'm pretty sure if I could have made just one more run I could have hit a 12.5 with a great launch. Unfortunately it looks like this was the last good track day for the season so it'll have to wait till next year.

Wow, you've really got that thing moving! I'm really starting to wish my dad had gotten Quattro on his B8 so I could try and convince him down this route, but alas he has Frontrak and lack of grip aside I can't imagine his CVT would be too happy with the extra power haha.

Anyways, great build! Have you considered getting an S-Line wheel with paddles for when you hit the track? Probably wouldn't improve times as S mode is pretty competent, but the challenge of timing all your shifts right would be fun.

BTW I was really impressed with the build quality of this FMIC. The thing weighs at least 15 lbs, has big beefy welds, heavy duty cast endtanks and a really nice bar and plate design with staggered fins.

Definitely worth the price, and the size and dimensions make it a much better option than a lot of the direct-fit models for this car that cost upwards of 3-4 times more. The entire core is open to airflow as opposed to being obstructed by the crash bar like many other units. The only complaints I have is that I'd have liked the end tanks to have had baffles inside to better direct the airflow over the top half of the unit and for it to be a bit wider. The Spearco I had originally ordered had mid-inlets instead of bottom inlets so wouldn't have needed baffles, and had a 24" core as opposed to the 22" core of the Treadstone. Overall these are minor annoyances though and probably won't make much real world difference. In fact, the Spearco may have been a bit too large for my F23L at 12.7 liters, with the Treadstone being 9.8 and rated to 500hp.
I just noticed this, but for the TR11 that I got, it has a baffle to direct the air flow over the top sections of the intercooler. And I'm glad I found your install, now I know what I need to do to mount mine lol

    Question,

Which silicone intercooler hose kit did you get? Or do those 2 hoses just connect to the stock ones?
