I'm going to put the APR and ECS stickers on, that's a total of 30hp right there.

Well... I only did one run because it was only hitting 15psi and the wastegate flapper is getting worse.

Time to throw the new K04 in!

Even just attempting a before run is awesome... most people will just negate doing it at all. Still not a completely useless dyno IMO.

Get that turbo on!! Excited to hear what issues, insights, tips and tricks come from you doing the install yourself. Those will be much appreciated!

BTW car looks good on the rollers!

I wish it was running to it's fullest potential prior to this K04 install but at least I tried right!?

I'll be reading through the install soon here and get a good idea before jumping into it. Hopefully I'll get it on next week, that's my target time at least.

So I took the turbo out of the box this morning to swap over the DV and whatnot and found this. The solenoid was snapped and now I have to play the waiting game to install this thing. This sucks...

Edit: It looks like they're going to over night the part which is awesome! I'm thinking about just installing the turbo and putting on the N75 valve when it comes in. Any thoughts on how tight it might be to do that?

Didn't someone else have this issue with the CTS kit recently?

I have the APR kit. They're sending the part over night so it sucks but nice they're getting it out with a quickness.

Oh sorry, don't know why I assumed you had the CTS... yeah I would expect them to get it resolved quickly.

Just sucks, I took the old one out yesterday and was going to throw the new one in today but oh well. I could probably install everything and then put the N75 valve on tomorrow when I get it, I just don't know how tight it'll be if I did that.

I just replaced mine on the factory turbo and it was pretty tight, but manageable. If I had the turbo out I would wait though.

Really? Went bad huh? Yeah you're right but I like to get stuff done now and hate waiting, but I will this time.

It didn't go bad at all, but instead of adding 30 mins or so of work in a tight spot or 2 mins with it out of the car, I would pick the latter. LOL. But I would be the same as you itching to get the turbo in.
Edit: probably take far less time on new hoses and such, but still exponentially easier out of the car.

I just hope I get it in tomorrow at a decent time so I can install everything, leak check, fill the coolant, change my oil and put the new gapped spark plugs. I was wanting to drive up to APR's headquarters Friday to get the tune loaded. 3.5 hours north is the closest around me and sucks! Not even an Audi dealer around here but there is a VW place.

hey this picture, I'll be doing this install in a couple of months. it almost looks as if you didn't need to push the cat that far back to remove turbo. I know most people just say to remove the coupler between mid pipe and down pipe and slide the cat back. My issue is my exhaust at most all joints was tac welded to prevent leaks. My system was a bitch to get right due to the y section being longer as it is from over the pond. just wondering as your picture looks like it's doable.🤔

So... I've had one hell of a time with this turbo install. The turbo came with a broken part and the new part came today which was great so I could get it installed. Well I got everything installed besides bolting the HCF on and putting the intake in so I added coolant since I had to take a break from being bitten by fire ants which made me breakout in hives. So after adding the coolant it started to piss out the wedge on the coolant line that attaches to the turbo. I'm about to lose my shit! So now I have to spend $70 to get a new one and bend it a little better so it doesn't put too much strain on the wedge when tightening down since it's at such an angle to begin with.

Does anyone here have small hands to get to the bolt holding the other side of the coolant line?

Is it leaking out of a crack in the metal line or just the banjo fitting with the crush washers that bolts onto the side of your turbo near the frame rail? If it's the banjo fitting then just tighten it up. It has to be super tight, the crush washers should take care of the seating. Installing a new line with the turbo in the car is going to be a bitch and you probably don't need it. I've installed my turbo twice and did this the first time cause I didn't tighten it enough. Haven't had any issues since learning I needed to put a little more muscle into it.

Oh no it was tight and I put a mirror under the fitting and didn't see anything from that. I was a little jacked up from the hives so I'll have to check it out more in the next day or so.

Okay, so... I was better this morning and the hives went away but my leg is killing me, I guess I'm allergic to fire ants. But on to car stuff and how I fixed the issue.

So the picture below shows how I have the two crush washers and how it was on the old turbo. Well the plug below the line did dent in the line but did not break the seal around the fitting after all. It was leaking against the turbo side of the fitting because the plug below wouldn't let it sit flat. So how I fixed it is easy, I took one of the crush washers and put one thick one on the outside and one thin one on the turbo side to help space the line from the plug and create that flush fitting. It worked, but we'll see when I start it up and how everything works together next week when I get my turbo coupler going from the turbo to the hard pipe I forgot to order.

How it is now, it's not touching the plug below that would cause chaffing.

Yeah if you do tighten it down too much with the double washers on one side it'll leak. The washer on each side should work for you though.

Wait a second.. you had two crush washers on the outside of the banjo fitting, and zero between it and the turbo? No wonder it was pouring coolant 😂.

@Alex1188 I hope you're not doing the same.

That's how the lines were on the old turbo soooo yeah. I wonder if it's because the dealer took my motor out for the oil consumption.

You know what's even worse than them installing the lines wrong?! It was making that loud ass rattle sound when I brought it to them, they did the oil consumption and still didn't say anything about the turbo warranty or replace it. This was before I knew it was bad and now i want to kick their teeth in and curious what else they did wrong or half ass...

Glad you said something!! At least I installed it myself and didn't pay someone though, even if it was wrong.

    Cliff notes: Dealerships suck.

Details on how to place the crush washers probably wouldn't even make it into the official guide used by techs. Audi would make the assumption their techs are using logic, some level of personal judgement and responsibility, and common sense. That's just not the case for most dealership techs as I've seen proven countless times from working at a dealership briefly and on others' cars.

Glad the install is back underway.

I should have looked at this below but didn't think about it since I was just looking at the old and doing to the new. oops... It's all back together now and good but waiting for the coupler to attach the turbo to the intercooler pipe. I don't get that in until mid week this week and then I have to drive 3.5 hours to APR for my tune to be updated.

Well, I took a drive to APR for the K04 software load. This thing feels like a newer / faster car and I love it. I was losing a good amount of power with my K03 wastegate flapper being bad and it's pretty apparent after this software load. Now it's time to install the W/M system when I get some time and switch it to the 100 octane map.

Great stuff as always sir! Got me to thinking it's been quite a while since upgrading fr Stage 1 to 2. The car has had its fair share of tinkering and mods since so perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to see about scheduling an appointment locally. Though it's been a great improvement, i feel it's lost a 1/2 step here and there.

Any suggestions as far as specifics I should have them look at in terms of the tune?
