I'm going to take a guess and say you were e member before the big AZ crash!

Digging how you stuck with the B5 A4 all these years. Seems you are the type to never want to let go...like me.

I also run those plugs. Great plugs. Funny story. I switched to F6DTC for the winter and it blew like 6 ignition coils. I never thought about the plugs being the culprit, till one day I realized it only started happening after I did the swap. Placed FR5DTC plugs back in and have been good ever since. F6DTC plugs are also great plugs, and I ran them in the past (stock turbo, stock turbo flashed ECU, and GT2871R with no issue). I was custom tuned with these plugs in, and I have a feeling that was the deciding factor.

Replaced the center support bearing the other day, it wasnt as difficult as I thought. Actually getting the bearing off the axle is the hardest part, took more time than separating the two axles.

Next week I will be replacing the rear wheel bearings and left rear S4 caliper.

Did you happen to take anymore pictures of the process? How did you go about removing the yoke? The more details the better as I may be doing this in the next month or so.

I am so behind on updates.

Just did JHM solid linkage yesterday. Still trying to figure out how to properly adjust it and been playing with the two allen bolts for a while now.

Is still hard to get into 1st gear, also the distance between shifting into 3rd from neutral and into 4th from neutral is different. Moreover, whenever i shift to 1st or 2nd, the shifter will hit the right side of the shifter box.

Anyone knows how to adjust it properly? any link?

You should have marked the stabilizer bolt, to place it back where you took it off. But try to get that close to how you had it before, then tighten the bolt. Now play with the actual shifter bolt. What you want is to have the shifter centered. Eye ball it from top looking down. After that, tighten the bolt. Now check for travel distance. You want equal side to side, and equal travel play going from adjacent gears. Meaning, 1-2, 3-4, and 5-R. Keep loosening bolt and readjusting till it feels right. Now, go for test drive. If it isnt right, keep playing with adjusting the shifter till its right.

Fwiw, mine is still a little notchy gettin into reverse every now and then. Doesnt bother me enough to correct it, but i may later on.

I actually did mark both bolts. But now I can't find that sweet spot. And prior to installing the jhm solid linKage, I always have problem hitting the side when shifting into 1st or 2nd. But they will shift into gears perfectly though.

I guess I will try tighten the stabilizer bolt first and play around with the shifter rod bolt. Thanks for the help.

can u take a pic of the position of the allens?

Mine is all exposed at the moment too, and have the 6mm allen socket ready. But it grinds 2nd gear so hard that, i just skipped 2nd for now. Definitely not pleasant to my ears.

Go easy on your shifts. It's pretty unusual for any of the gears in an 01A to crunch. Even reverse has synchromesh, unlike the 01E.

    It's possible you've got a chipped / cracked 2nd synchro.

Yes that's what I'm suspecting, ordering an used tranny next week. Will a 2.8 tranny do me any good?

    My tranny code is DWR.

I believe the final drives MAY be different. I'm not sure what the FD ratio of the 1.8T is, but I do know the 2.8 is 3.89:1.

Wow its been a while, i dont even know where to start. I have to go back and update the mod list.

Plus i havent driven the b5 for almost two years now. I replaced the rear subframe right before i parked it. The subframe had a crack on it after years of tracking the car with some stiff sway. Even i had the sway reinforcement bracket since 2002, it still cracked on me. But is all good now, replaced the old neuspeed brackets with the 034 one, dail the height for winter and proper alignment done.

Cant send pics through audizine app. Will post some later.

After the ccw setup, i changed the custom valved bilstein and eibach linear springs setup to pss9. Also, bought some rotiforms rse and bbs ch. For the BBS, i was going to use them as my winter setup, but when i balanced them, two of the wheels were bad. So i returned them to the seller. Them bought a set of Oettinger RZ.

With the RSE, did a lot of cruising but didnt have time for track days. I had noticed there is a slight crack on the left rear subframe, so my alignment was always off. Then a slight crack turned into a shear.

This is the 034 rear sway with the sheared off piece from the subframe.

So new subframe is in now with the 034 reinforcement brackets (used to have neuspeed), raised it up and fresh alignments with the Oettinger RZ and winter tires. These was almost 2 years ago.

Now my plan for spring is:
-Timing belt, tensioner, water pump, thermostat, seals, drive belts
-buy some ARP studs for the exhaust manifold since they always back off
-proper tune by AMD down in Woodinville, Washington. Goal is to make a reliable 300whp
-put in my spare passenger seat, the current one is ripped
-install ebay shifter since my V&S is broken

Want to share these pics with the very first batch of BLQ when they just came out. Rotiform used to offer only BLQ and NUE when Brian and Jason started the company. They definitely came a long way, very successful company.

Oh and this problem had been solved long time ago, it was the bolt (i forgot what it is called) on the passenger side of the transmission that broke. Replaced it and problem solved. No more popping out of first gear and hard shifting.
