    sucks.... bad

While searching for a metal/billet replacement I found this. http://www.gruvenparts.com/billet-vw...1-8t-dipstick/

Unfortunately for the 1,8t they only make an AEB tube.

But i stumbled upon this also: http://www.gruppetitan.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2262

Anyone know where or who sells that dipstick / tube?

In this photo it looks similar in shape, Mk1 TT 1.8t (AWM) dipstick and tube setup. http://www.gruvenparts.com/billet-1-...nd-tube-combo/

Would be great if we could get a permanent replacement, seems like a simple enough part to where another part might fit as well.

Our dipstick tube's mfg part # is........................... 06B103663G
The TT/MK4 tube is a replacement for mfg part # 06A103663B

I wonder if it would work

Also A4 AWM dip sticks mfg part # is..... 06B115611R
The MK1 TT AWM 1.8t dipstick mfg # is 06A115611Q

I wouldn't be surprised if these worked.

    Anyone know?

I had done something similar, can't recall off the top of my head but made something up with over VW billet parts. Still consider billet pieces if even if too long, different sizes, because you can make them work just as good.

Bring your oem oil level to the exact center mark on your oem stick, then remove the oem assembly. I then pressed the billet tube into the block. The aftermarket oil stick is held into/onto the billet handle, by being inserted into it, and tightened with a grub screw. This is all normal applications you wouldn't touch, but in our cases you do. I had to pull the oil stick and handle apart and cut off an ~1" at a time till the exact dead center oil level point was reached.

You can NOT do this with out knowing your exact oil level prehand because you'd have nothing to go off otherwise, slapping on just another oil stick wouldn't tell you nothing with our knowing the pre-levels.

Trying to remember, I may have even used a 1.8 16v billet assembly.

I've searched like you have for a simply premade assembly, I do believe I found one kit, but was like $169!!!!! Good grief, just for a billet oil stick assembly.

Can you get a few pics of the setup? I heard that taking the lower dipstick tube out that is press fitted into the block is a PITA and usually has to be done by dropping the pan and hammering it out.

Where did you find a billet peace that press fit into the block? Not sure what you mean by oil stick lol

A quick glance at the Mk1 TT 1.8t AWM lower dipstick tube on ECS tuning shows it to be the same tube as the A4 AWM. Not sure though because it looks different then in the pics. I am pretty sure ECS has the wrong part listed for the AWM A4 1.8t.

I wouldn't mind paying $169 for a nice billet setup, i understand that this isn't a huge market and billet parts aren't cheap to manufacture, the security of knowing i wont have any more plastic bits falling into my engine ever is very well worth it haha but i agree, really not sure why its quite THAT expensive.

What I mean by oil stick is the dip stick itself. When making a kit, I had to cut an 1" off at a time off the dip stick till the oil level showed proper and just slide it back into the handle and tighten the grub screw. I tried not to use the word dip stick as sometimes people use that word to describe the entire assembly/unit.

I had sold that set up with my last motor. On my other motor which is 06A I just grabbed the oem metal tube and started twisting back and forth till popped out. Just got it back from powder coating. I'm pretty sure you could twist and pull out the 058 metal tube.

I wonder if the combination of a transverse oil tube, a billet transverse oil funnel (the gruven one) and the associated gruven dip stick would be a working combination. Guessing not since the pans are different.

yeah the 06a block is a different tube, i believe it's one people say can't be removed w/o removing the pan. I wonder if we could get the MK1 TT Lower metal dip stick tube to work, the one that is press fit into the block, then the Billet TT Dipstick and tube.. would be a convenient swap. Tempted to try it and also replace my oil pump / screen when down there.
