Found My Real Problem!!!! Cracked Block!!! Block build help!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So, what I though was a blown head gasket is a cracked block. Can someone help me find a good short block, or what it would cost to build a nice short block?

    Thanks

Ouch homey!! Find one here or on CL. Used block....prolly whole engine will be cheapest, easiest even though you don't need all of it. I'd say $500 if ya look long enough...maybe $350.

well what does you car currently have in it? AEB? I would see if you could get one the same, BUT if i remember correctly it doesn't matter what year the car, the engine blocks are all the same. you will have to transfer over stuff.

The crank is different between auto/manual. FWD vs AWD makes no difference for the engine.

A place between here and there

You need an 058 block. AEB is 058. 06A is different. Does that price include shipping? $595 for a complete long block is not a bad price.

The guy just told me that the motor is ATW. What kind of problems can I see with mine being AEB and trying to fit a ATW in my car?

None. The ATW block IS the AEB block. They are the same. Pay the cash moneys.

he is saying that the motor is a 98, but it's the ATW motor (thought it only came in 2000)? I'm talking about if I swap the motors and not just the blocks will I have problems?

The blocks are the same, the head and electronics are different. The ATW is DBW with an ME7 ECU compared to the ME5 in your car now. The head is of the small port variety and has ports for the combo valve/SAI IIRC and I believe has VVT.

Ouch! i know that feel of sourcing/ building a block but i grabbed a 99 b5 passat 1.8t AEB engine 4 days ago just swapping everything over from my old one and finally going to start her today! So everything does fit even with the b5 oil pan which has a shape for the low oil sensor that's probably the only thing different about it. And i got mine from CAR-PARTS.COM thanks to walkytalky giving me that site when i got into an accident...
