What problem did you have specifically? And which program / software combo are you trying to run? The success of this seems to vary widely based on the many versions of the software and cables people are using. If your Ross Tech cable is a KII-USB then vag-commaner usually wont run through it. It should run through their hex-can in dumb mode.

Also, I don't know if the rs6 cluster is Immo2 or what, because..in my experience you can't change the mileage on any Immo3 cluster after it logs more than 50 miles. Haven't tried in so long that maybe I've forgotten? Or maybe some version of Vag-commander lets you do it somehow. VW (Bosch?) clusters you could, but not Audi /Magnetti Marelli.

RS6 cluster is immo 3, and yes you can change the mileage as I did above.

I could never get my vag-com cable to work with any KKL utility, I think that's your problem. None of my completely differnt from each other 3 ebay cables have any issues running flashers, loggers, vag commander, you name. Just get cheap $10 cable off ebay and I bet it will work just fine with vag commander.

You can't just swap overlays from MPH to KPH or vice versa, this is where mistakes are done, your speedometer part will not match .. MPH and KPH overlays are different
the location of the speeds on overlays are in different location , example check 100 km/h on USA cluster with dual speed chart and with Canadian or European cluster that has only KPH you will notice that on MPH cluster 100 kph is located at 10 o'clock where 60 mph is
on European/Canadian cluster 100km/h is located at 12 o'clock so there is 20 km/h difference between two clusters , so if you to swap overlays you be either driving too fast or too slow depends which one you install, I had customers who had this done by other sources and got tickets driving over the speed limit .. and you can't change code in cluster so it adapts to new overlay , you either have to manufacture new overlay to match to the one you are replacing it will run you $$$ or reload the image on the cluster from US or European cluster and then reprogram the cluster to your vehicle

Trying to swap my C7 OEM S6 cluster with c7 OEM RS6 cluster. Hooked it up and it fits perfectly and light up, but trying to code it correctly but getting this error? Any ideas would be helpful.

We tried using the dealer equipment, but since what is on file in Germany for the car and what we are swapping are not the same the computer cancels the process.

Does anybody know where you can buy VAG Commander or something similar that doesn't require you to monkey around with drivers and whatnot? I've been trying for awhile to get a few different free copies of VAG Commander to work without success

Last night we tried swapping Immo 3 clusters on 3 different cars using the OP's instructions.

We were able to pull the pins from the clusters originally in the car with Vag commander. No problem there.

When we installed the donor clusters we were unable to pull the Pins from those. All three showed the same 5 digit code where the 4 digit pin normally is. Even though each car had a different donor cluster installed. We played around with this for hours. We followed the instructions to the letter and no dice.

Any ideas or suggestions?


Edit: I found instructions on a European forum that says after installing the used cluster (donor) cluster, you have to click "reset ECU", let that finish and then click "read" to get the pin from the new/used cluster. Is this correct?

I don't think that works. If you're using Vag Commander then you're reading the SKC from the ECU, NOT the cluster, so if you get a valid number it will be the one for the car. AFAIK with Vag commander (at least the one we're all using) you can't get the SKC from the cluster, so if your replacement cluster doesn't come with an SKC you're hosed.

It's not that complicated...but it's very confusing on the other end.
I can report that I have read all PIN's from all my donor cluster one RS6 the other one is S6...and this was done with VAG commander V1.4 with black eBay cable.$20 well spent.

This S6 cluster brings memories to my beloved S8 D2...
I have to get tuned now because at WOT I'm not even close to red line at 7k,shifts too soon.Haha😉

Man,it was a must for me,loved S and RS clusters always.So much better then stock.I guess it refresh look of interior,after 4 years being surrounded with stock things it gets a bit old inside...

Whoa, just realized the S6 has all red dials. Never noticed before.

My RS cluster's white does seem more intense than my allroad's white. To my eye the red LEDs seem the same. Possibly it is due to the overlay? Or a trick of the eye since the RS cluster doesn't have silver rings?

Here's what I've learned (I'm working off memory here so don't hold me 100% to this)

The RS6 cluster has red illuminated dials (2 LEDs per all 6 dials) with the number backlighting in less white. The numbers are backlit all the time (key on)

The S6 cluster has white dials (The large dials have 4 LEDs) with the number backlighting in red. The numbers are backlit all the time (key on) There are also clear/frosted lenses between the dials and the LEDs on this cluster.

The 2.7T cluster is the same as the RS6 cluster lighting as far as I can tell but the numbers are only backlit when the lights are on.

What I've also learned is that the white LEDs from the S6 cluster are not the same hue as the white LEDs from the RS6 cluster.

I need to replace some of the white LEDs in my RS6 cluster and tried taking them from another cluster to find out that they are brighter ans clearly noticeable when it's all back together.

Therefore, I need to source more of the white 3528s in the correct color/hue.

The new owner actually crashed it a few months after purchase. Nothing too bad, but he had to replace the whole front clip. Porsche is great, still haven't done any mods as life with a 18 month old baby takes up a lot of the free time I used to have. I'm DD'ing a 2001 S class right now but wouldn't mind finding another 996 Turbo to DD. This is how she sits now.

I'd always assumed the C5 RS6 cluster had white needles, till I picked mine up. I ended up buying a B5 cluster too, and swapped the white needles onto the C5 RS6's. I think it looks pretty good.

Get a VCDS cable. Go to instruments (17), then adaptations, then scroll down to 'powertrain CAN-databus, then subtract 0002 from the number in the field. Hit 'test' then SAVE.

Can someone help ? I'm located in MD and am willing to drive to someone. I have a 2005 b6 Audi A4 Quattro and want to put an s4 cluster I purchased into my car. Does anyone have vag commander and everything needed to make this happen ? I'll obviously pay for the help. Thanks !
