Just picked up my custom ordered 2014 RS 5 this week after about a three month wait It is my first Audi and I'm excited to be part of the Audi family.

Most people ask to see the "Purple" hue on Panther Black, so here are a few pics. It is truly a magnificent color and one that should be viewed in person to see its true effect!

Got her tinted today. Went with Huper Optik Ceramic film. 30% all around (TSER = 60%).

Looks great and certainly keeps the heat out, which you need here in Houston!

Not 100% sure yet if I will do this or not, but OE Chrome Tips that the dealer threw in.. I am kind of liking the Black ones. Will see...

That's it for now, but I will be having some detailing work done in a few weeks (Opti-Coat & Xpel Ultimate). Spacers and yes I know ECodes will also be on deck soon. Getting the springs put on first so that I can measure for spacers.

Will also be having some audio work done next week.

They are heat shrinking the tint for a nice mold. Will be applied to the inside.

Hi Everyone..

After about a week after taking delivery of the RS, I had Xpel Ultimate put on almost the entire car. Had the complete front, complete side as well as the rear bumper done. We are lucky to have a factory Xpel center here in Houston and had Eric take care of everything. Had their head installer Adrian do the install. They are both great and I highly recommend them! Have included a few pics.

Any particular reason you put on this much film? I had 3M put on this Wednesday. Full front, mirrors, door edges and under handles and full rear bumper. I'm considering the A-piller and roof where it meets the windshield. I can't tell the film is there unless I stare at a seem from like 10 inches away. There's no visual difference in the richness of the color as the eyes move from a panel with film to one without. I'm pretty amazed. The Panther Black sparkle is unchanged. I'm probably gonna wash it this weekend and hopefully take some pics.

Thanks Scott! Had some crappy weather here since I took delivery last week. Will definitely post some close-ups when the sun is out. Color is not changed at all with the film on and the film looks great.

Any particular reason you put on this much film?

Main reason is I work in a high traffic retail center on a daily basis and I wanted the side protected from door dings, carts, and anything else that could nick the paint. If I just did the rear fenders, you would see fine seams in places and I could see my ocd kicking in! Plus dings of course can happen all over the car and not just the door area.

Second reason is I have had two previous new vehicles keyed.. The Xpel Ultimate film really is some tough film. I had the Xpel guys show me some demonstrations with keys and other sharp items and only with very hard force did the film get penetrated.

I know you can't protect you car 100% wherever you go, but film on the complete front and sides will certainly prevent the paint being nicked. Had my last two dark cars torn up in high traffic parking lots! Wasn't going to let that happen to the RS.

Good thing with Xpel Ultimate is that it is self healing over time or when a little heat is introduced to the film. Xpel guys took a hard wire brush to the film and it healed in a matter of seconds with only hot water! Was pretty neat.

Yeah, I hear you on the cost of the film. I didn't do nearly as much as you did Nate, but that shit is expensive. I will admit that like superswiss said, unless you really stare hard, the 3M is pretty much invisible. I was pretty impressed at how it well it hides.

I can't speak to what Nate paid for his wrap, but around here a full front wrap with Xpel Ultimate costs north of $2000 and I hear that folks spend around $7000 to get a full body wrap of a Tesla Model S.

I got "only" the full front on mine but if I were buying a black car I would probably opt for a full wrap.

Audio Update...

Just wanted to share some pics of my audio installation done by Custom Car Stereo here in Houston. They do excellent work and I have been using them for over ten years now. For those in Houston, George or Jonathan can hook you up!

I wanted something simple and with kids gear to put in the trunk, something easy to remove if needed. I can remove the sub in seconds! I had them move my Sub, Amp and Radar from my old RX 350 into the RS. I have always added some extra bass to my system in all my previous vehicles, as most stock systems lack in the bass category! I have found that rear firing subs sound the best to me.

Setup consists of 2 JL Audio 10w6's, Alpine PDX 1.1000 Amp and I had the Bel Radar hardwired on the dash. Had no issues at all with the radar mounted that low in any of my other cars for the past six years, so I mounted it in the center area. Sits nice and flush with the dash.

Subs produce nice and tight bass and complements the B&O system. Not overpowering at all.

New Car Prep Detail/Opti-Coat/Opti-Glass/Wolf's Nano Textile Sealant

Had the RS detailed at Chreeno Detail here in Houston. I highly recommend anyone in Houston that needs any auto detailing work done to take their vehicle to Chris Reno, who is the owner of Chreeno Detailing. Unlike other so-called high end auto detailers in Houston, Chris pays meticulous attention to details both inside and out of your vehicle! I have tried other detailers here in Houston who claim to be "high end" detailers, but they are really all about quantity over quality! Chris had spent four days working his magic and detailed every nook and cranny of the interior and exterior. He only uses the finest auto detailing products and he is one of two in town that are an authorized Optimum Polymer Technologies (manufactures of Opti-Coat) dealers in Houston.

The Wolf's Nano Textile Sealant is a really neat product and a must for Alcantara surfaces. The new Opti-Glass is also a must. It's like permanent Rain-X!

I'm pretty sure the opti-coat was just applied to the wheels. I was asking if he applied it to the paint before the xpel.

Really well, actually, just had it done over XPEL Ultimate. Add's all the pop and water repellency that you get on paint to the film. I doubt anyone not specifically looking for it would ever guess my car even has film (entire front end, hood, fenders).

Actually I told the dealer a few weeks back before I took delivery that the car should not be "detailed" by the dealer in any way both inside or out. The Xpel folks did a new car prep and looked for any flaws in the paint in the areas before the Xpel was put on. I was told by the Xpel factory here in Houston as well as the Chreeno Detail that Opti-Coat will not truly bond to the Xpel film as it was not designed to go on top of any film, rather to the paint directly.

I had Opti-Coat applied only to all the parts of the car that did not have any Xpel film on it (Roof, Trunk Lid). I also had Opti-Coat applied to the wheels.
