Another RNS-E Thread. With a slight Twist

So long story short. I bought my car and the previous owner had a RNS-E installed after he bought it. He also had a DVD, CD, MP3, TV Tuner installed in the glove box. I have never been able to get the DVD player in the glove box to work. I really don't care to get it to work either, if it works it works if not whatever. Fast forward a little bit. I made my "Backup DVD" and for some reason it wouldn't work in my car. So having access to a couple different cars with RNS-Es in them (All B7'S) I pop my "Backup DVD into these cars and what do you know the units update to the newest 0260 software with the 2011-2012 Maps.

So i was successful with burning the 2011-2012 Nav Map Disc SW0260

I started looking into this a little more and posted into this tread: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...g-firmware-260

One of the members pointed out that i have a European RNS-E via the PN.

    Address 37: Navigation Labels: 8E0-035-192-RNSE.lbl
    Part No SW: 8E0 035 192 C HW: 8E0 035 192 C
    Component: RNS-E US3 H54 X---
    Revision: 00S Serial number: 0UZBZ0E0400000
    Coding: 0301215
    Shop #: WSC 06325 000 00000
    VCID: 244DF249E4C0DE9

I messaged the previous owner of the car and he confirmed that the unit was not bought from the dealer that he purchased the unit from someone on a Audi forum. At this point i can clearly see where the differences are in my unit compared to the other 3 that i already updated. Here is the big twist:

Take a look at the software version. Now here is the other twist. Everything works in the unit but only with the Burnt DVD that came in the car. This is where i am at a loss as to what i need to do. I have all of these backed up copies of the latest greatest Map/SW Discs because i thought i was burning the disc wrong and they all work and i cant use a single one.

In the other thread you will see i have already tried to force a update but that didn't work. My next step is this: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...to-USA-version

Can anyone confirm that I am heading in the right direction or give your educated input.

You have an Euro Version who has been hacked to read US data.
I was in the same boat when I wanted to enable my AUX input. I think I have the file to get you out of this mess

Keep us posted, it worked for me. If it does for you as well, then I will post the process since it might help others

Re: Another RNS-E Thread. With a slight Twist

I have been working with Phil trying to fully convert my RNSE to US spec with no luck. We seem to think the eprom board might be either really hacked or something else is wrong. Either way I'm not giving up and will have a lot or resources and experience saved so the next person doesn't have this same issue.

I would try to burn a euro disk and try to get it to update itself to a true euro SW version. Then you could do the EU to US conversion from a clean slate. Just a thought. You definitely need to get rid of that X in the SW version.

Hard to find.. there has got to be a different way. Do you think the dealer would be able to reset it?

    ^ agree with phil

I would take your questions to the RNS-e board on audiforum.us. Members like PetrolDave and Haggie will likely be able to help you a bit more.
