2.0T FSI Coil Conversion....Anyone already have it and Willing to spend $5 FATS?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
"redneck truck" over in the C5 forum posted that he is able to run OEM spacer plates doing the Touareg "push in" coilpacks on his V8. These spacers are like $5 each, GenuineAudiParts.com has them for less than $4 each. These could potentially be a (way) cheaper option for doing the 2.0T coil conversion on the 2.7T.

Anyone with the conversion done willing to pick one up and see how it compares to the billet spacers, and if it would work on the 2.7T? And, of course, post that info here for everyone?

    Part number is: 077 905 390

Here is it done on the 4.2

Sweet! I might have to order one from the dealer tomorrow to check out.

Order 6. They come singularly and fit the 2.7 fine (as it shares the same coil architecture as the 4.2).

I have some alum spacers already but might just spring for these if cheap enough. I do like the oem approach.
Are the b6 3.0 coils the same as the ones used for this?

Close enough. Different part number, but interchangable.

    I believe 07k's are the latest/greatest.

Thx, was kinda what I was thinking. Have a set of 3.0 coils and and harness left over from a b6 2.7 swap. Should be in good shape.

Wow this is great news, I don't see any reason they won't work since the hitatchi coils bolt to out engine also. I will add this information to the DIY for the coil conversion.

Do these factory "adapters" bolt onto the S4 valve cover or somehow just push into the existing factory bolt holes?

Edit: I just read that they do use the existing holes...

depends what you call "properly". This is pretty much a permanent installation since once the adapters are in... they stay there indefinitely. And silicone will arguably do a better job at sealing than some rubber strip anyway :)

It would be interesting to see is these are exactly the same rubber pieces as used under 2.7 coil... Anyway, that's 6 x $3 (at least) = ~$20... or a tube of silicone nobody will ever see anyway....

Lol, so it is (peeked at ETKA myself). So nobody needs these rubber seals as you already have have them fastened under the stock 2.7 coil.

Poor INA/034... I might go the OEM route myself as I don't like how 034 plates are not holdling the coils down. My coils tend to migrate up, one was just freely wobbling on top of the plate the other day I checked the coils.

Wait I just wanna clear some stuff up. I am thinking about doing the ICM Delete. So what you guys are saying is instead of spending $120 on the adapted plates you can use these Audi Spacers(077 905 390) to space the FSI coils? And you need this washer (058905261A) to create a seal but you don't need to order it because it can be taken off the S4 Coils? Am I making sense or am I just being full retarded.

Nope, you havent gone full retard. Youve got it right. These would be a cheaper, OEM alternative to what INA/034 and Integrated Engineering offer(sorry guys, your products look great; but you know us car people, always trying to save a dime where we can).
From the sounds of it, these will work! Great news indeed!

Looking forward to seeing some more pictures of these installed on the 2.7! Having the conversion cost $100 less sure motivates me want to do this conversion sooner rather than later.

Thats the million dollar question right there, we will have to wait for someone to pick up a set and measure them for us so we can compare to what 034 et al offer

Sure is. Why don't you ask your V8 friend to measure it quickly. 034 plates are 10mm thick (0.4"), this link says OEM plate is 21mm thick (0.83")

Hopefully I can find the coil stretcher in the box, been a while since I needed it

Never really understood the whole plug and play thing. Too many extra connections for something that is not going to be switched back (prob ever) for me.

    Coil stretcher?

Plug and Play because plug and play is easier for layfolk like myself who suck at wiring, which is the type of person who would buy not do the wiring themselves. Not much you can screw up if all you have to do is plug it in.

Though I might attempt to do the wiring on this, since the whole conversion can be done in $200 range now, vs $600. And while Im at it, Id like to move the coilpack wiring to the bottom of the valve covers so I can put it in 3.0L looms/conduit, like this:

Just a tip, my guess is prob easier to diy the conversion than it is to move those wires down.

My guess is that is probably overall(shipping) dimensions, which would include the thickness of the plugs that get pushed into the coilpack bolt holes. I PM'd redneck truck

CP and injector wires are all in the same loom, right? So if you cut open that loom youll have room to move the wires. And if DIYing, you just make the wiring longer to reach where you need it to.

Factory coils are not centered in the valve cover. I know after making plates via an EDM and the plate wouldn't line up with the coils in. The hole is .23in down from the center.

So does that eliminate the need of FSI Coil Conversion Harnesses that is in the original kit?

    They showed up today.

They fit well, but with the way 2 of the corners are radiused, will not cover the hole in our vc completely. Keep this in mind if you are one to get in there often with a hose and clean the engine. Also nice to see 2 sets of indexing slots.

Side by side with an alum set I have. Thickness is close enough.

Not sure how the washer will fit in here with no groove. I like ddilingers idea with the rtv. Might help hold the adapter on when pulling the coils.

Not sure when I will get around to installing. Will prob get my car up and running first on the stock setup, then switch over.
Live Dave said, b6 3.0 look shorter and the indexing tabs might need to be modded to work (they seem too thick for the slots).
