    Polo's humble build

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Thought I'd put out what I have going on and get some feedback on what you guys think.

So this is a day or so before I took delivery October 18, 2011. Delivery was with Adam from Criswell Audi in Annapolis. I had a great experience with them myself. Though my one little downer is that they didn't give me updates as to the dealer que, build que, etc. One day I just got an email that it was ready for delivery. Thankfully my finances were in hand well in advance. Original Specs: 2012 4.2L S5 6MT, Bang and Olufsen, Alcantra black on black interior, Sport diff., Phantom Black pearl, Cilajet paint treatment, Titanium package, Carbon Fiber trim. Was sad at first that I didn't get the Alu-optic mirrors, but the matched look grew on me.

Immediately put on 20% tint and had some blue interior led's from tuner domes with the license plate kit. Sorry no pics of the blue, but they are great. Love the blue hue from the doors when you open them at night. Pictures never showed well.

    After tint.

Took it out for a little photo shoot not too long after that. Winter was quickly setting in.

Saved up some dollars. And bought SPC control arms thanks to a nice group buy on here from Eurocode. KW V1's (I don't plan to track it, and am too lazy to adjust a bunch) from Tirerack. And got some H&R 20/25 spacers from ECS Tuning along with my lamin-x tails (smoke 17%). Pointed in the right direction from Luke, I also procured some amber deletes from Podi.ca (I guess Luke isn't selling them anymore for the A5/S5 at least). Had the spacers, coils, and control arms put on today, and it's a whole new car. Plus the work for all of this $250.00. Have to let them settle and get an adjustment. Getting the vinyls put on in a week or so by my tint guy (Absolut Tint in Salisbury, MD).

Stance right after install, needs some tweaks and adjustment.

I ordered the AWE S-flo intake and it's now on the way. Also called up Nate at Rabe Motorsport and he got me a nice deal on the AWE Touring Exhaust with diamond black tips. I'm really not trying to go for the blacked out look, but all my decisions seem to take me further that direction. At this point with the TI package, black tips on order, it's probably only a matter of time before I de-badge and get black rings. Though if I ever get rims, still loving my rotors, I like the shine of the rings to be there for at least an accent, if I went CV3 graphite, then I'd do the black rings.

Comments and suggestions welcome. Will get some more pictures once the vinyls are on.

Love your specs! Glad to see a fresh build. Looks great so far. I would raise the rear and lower the front a bit. The vinyls will look good. Keep the rings chrome

For sure, going to let them settle for a week or so, then adjust the rear. Not sure if I want to lower the front till it settles a bit. The coils are on nearly the lowest setting right now. As for the rear, don't want too much of a raked look, but it will have to go up about 1/2 inch I think.

    Looks great!
But have to say this is the first S5 that I've seen without the alumi mirrors.

It's only the 2012 S5's that got the Titanium package. Before they all had aluminum mirrors. I was surprised at delivery.

Looks amazing! What do you have your V1s currently set to? Any rubbing w 20/25??? I've got the same rims as you but haven't installed my coilovers yet. Was gonna go w 15/20 spacers as a precaution but if you've got no rubbing I may up the ante ;-)

    ^haha, nice

I have them set pretty low. The rears I know are almost the whole way down. But as of right now, no rubbing what so ever, even at the current height. Now I've got a drive into DC this weekend, so a big bump might change that. But it seems like they are just tucked under the fender right now. It'd have to be a pretty big hit for me to get anything I think. I don't have plans on changing them. I think 15/20 would be fine too. What's 5mm, really?

Just measured this morning. I've got about 3mm of tire poke on the rears. I think it looks good with the negative camber they are just tucked under the fender., but you'd def be ok with 20/20 on the Ti wheels. 15 up front would still be pushed in too much I think.

Putting the S-flo on tonight, with my Ziza super white fogs (more blue-ish really), and stepping up the Ross-tech vag-com game. Need to be able to adjust my led brightness from the MMI. (already had a few of goodies done; no wink, ambers off, VIM, remote windows/sunroof, double chirp unlock, strobing/flashing emergency braking), remove seatbelt warning)

I have the ross-tech cable if anyone ever needs to vag in Maryland/Delaware.

You can do this?? Is this in the hidden menu? Are you referring to DRL? This would be cool to be able to do this. I have done a bunch of vag mods but didnt see this as something possible.

I was referring to my DRL's. But there is some coding for your interior as well. Not sure which they adjust, seems like just your foot lighting, but you have to activate the hidden menu and whatnot, I'm not that interested, plus I heard there are some things in the hidden menu that are no-nos, so I don't want to inadvertently screw something up. Right, I knew about the interior foot well lighting but you think there is a way to adjust DRL brightness from the MMI?

Pretty sure you can't adjust the DRL's from the MMI, not to my knowledge anyway. You can adjust the brightness using Vag-Com but not via the MMI.

Ps - Nice build! Love the TI package on a black car and I definitely dig the black mirrors over the aluminum ones, especially with your theme.

That would be nice wouldn't it, perhaps in the hidden menu, I'd have to do some more research. I haven't seen that decoded yet, or even know if it was possible. Was just going to do what you've already done.

FedEx brought me gifts. Couldn't wait to get it on. Went right outside and got to work.

Stock POS. And damn it fought coming off. Everyone says that this is 30 min install, ha. Those "two small connectors" by the throttle body took me at least 30 min to pry off, I really didn't want to break anything.

Once the stock hose was off, the rest came apart easily. And it got put back together easy until I hit one of the rubber hoses again. It says that you just need a few things, screwdriver, t-25, t-blah blah, pretty sure you need a pair of pliers for that one metal fastener on the small rubber hose. Thing was a bitch coming off and back on. Finished product.

Took a little drive, no codes, no crap, I'll take that as a success. And with a full tank of gas, the rear will definitely have to go back up about an inch! It's low low low.

^This is when hip hop was good. Not too many beats coming out like this anymore. I can usually count on Bone, but even they are getting to "club-esque" for me.

Got inspired by the full car plasti-dip thread. And since I'm not loving the deval cf valence, but want something other than the OEM shape if I'm going the toss out $700... ordered some gloss black plastip-dip from dipyourcar.com. Then I ordered more in case I catch the dip disease and want to try it out on my rims. It will at least go on the rear valence cause that silver grey thing is going to seriously mess up my pending diamond black awe tips.

I got ambitious today and said to myself, "Lets take some pictures for my fellow Audiziners". Gave it a quick bath to get the grimey off it and set to the road to find some good spots to snap a few shots and visit some past favorites. On the Eastern Shore of MD this is not too difficult but there are alot of farmers wondering what the hell you're doing stopping in the middle of the road. So a little update since the last pictures. I got my tint shop Absolut Tint in Salisbury to put on my vinyl deletes and lamin-x rears. Love the amber deletes. The tail tint, well I'm not completely sure yet, sometimes I can't get enough of it, other times I wonder if I should have gone a little less dark (I got the 17%, 2nd darkest). Oh well. I can always switch if I start to hate it. Fonze came through finally and I set to work experimenting with my plasti-dip. Dip all the badges except the S5 logo and did the rear valence. I thought about the CF rear, but I don't absolutely love the contours of the Deval and paying $700 for a stock looking CF or Deval didn't seem worth while. If they come out with a CF design I fall for then I could justify it. Got my alignment done at NGP Motorsport up in Aberdeen. Everyone around where I live gave me shit about it not being able to fit on their rack because it was lowered. Ha. I have the alignment specs, but it's nothing new to guys. Still have about 2 more weeks till my AWE exhaust arrives. Damn lead times! On with the pics!

    Started in downtown Salisbury.

On the way to some spots. Which turned out to be spots in and of themselves

Wow, nice shots! She looks demonic. Stance is perfect...looks so good in pic #2. Also unsure about the tails. Would look better if a bit lighter.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. You all have been the source for most of my mods. Small stuff to come in the future I'm sure, but I'm going to transition to my other favorite hobby, firearms. Though once I get the exhaust on I might put a sound vid on, since there isn't a wealth of those showing the Touring with a 6MT. But that depends on the sound quality I can get. As for the car, only things I really can think of yet are brake upgrades (probably won't bother), rims (probably won't bother), sways, alu-kruez, etc. Most of the priorities have been done already, maybe H20i will inspire me to new heights.

If you guys are ever passing through the Annapolis, B-more, DC area hit me up.

I finally got some time to upload the pictures from my exhaust install. First, I love the touring pitch, wish it had the touring pitch matched with the track loudness though. I'm already considering the non-res DP to beef it up a little bit more, but I wanted to see where just the cat-back would get me. Had a local german shop do the install. It all went well until there was a bump in the night, literally. Basically the connector from the DP to the cat-back came loose and dropped my DP on the pavement. Thankfully I was just getting home. Whew, don;t even want to think about what might have been had I been on the highway or cruising in town, the embarrassment and the headache. Called a friend that at about 9pm and we jacked it up and reconnected the pipes. Apparently the idiots that put it in didn't split the difference in the connector between the DP and the cross-pipe section so it rattled loose after one week of in town driving. The mistake as you will see in the pictures was that they assembled it front to back instead of back to front (which I was told by my friend is not always the best way), Needless to say, a few minutes later and I was back in business. Though I must say, that engine sounded to scary awesome with nothing after those DP's. If it wasn't for noise violations and other BS I would have left it a day or two. Onto the install pics.

Stock POS. Dropped it down. It was just plain old ugly.

Gave the tips some nice poke but I haven't taken any pictures of that yet. Tried to capture some sound clips since there aren't alot of the touring edition around really, especially with the 6MT. Sadly, they all came out absolutely awful, just shamefully bad. Sorry. The DB tips look great, but as some of you told me in the chatterbox, have to keep them clean and polished and watch for flaking. Does anyone here run the touring with DP's? I really would like to know what their impression of the sound is.

Sorry the pictures are posting sideways despite me rotating them in photobucket http://s1234.photobucket.com/albums/...H20pologoalie/

Damn, sorry about the troubles. I know that feeling. Looks great! Those oem mufflers are so nasty and the tips are phaggy. Funny, in pic 3 the tips look about 2.5" and in pic 4 they look 3.5" lol.

Yeah they hadn't mounted the tips at that point yet. The pic 3 tips were just what was coming out of the back mufflers. But hopefully that crap doesn't happen again, was a major headache, but than thankfully a little housecall later, all bandaged up!

    Nice build!
I want to lower my S5 as well and the KW v1 are at the top of my list, I commute through the DMV and for that reason would like to keep the ride quality "civil". How's ride post KWs and are you experiencing any of the "clunk" noise like some members are?

Not getting any clunking noises, and the ride is firm but smooth. These are my first set of coils so I'm not that sure how others ride. Everything else I've been in has just been springs. Overall though I like them. Set the height and done. I'm probably never going to track it, so I didn't need V3's and I wanted SS for a sort of winter insurance otherwise the ST's would have been a good choice. But where I have them set at, about 7 threads showing all around I never get any rub ever. Drive into DC regularly and no trouble (except for a few driveways, got to avoid the scraping!), some crappy part of RT 50 and I495 give it a good jolt, but no problems there either. But obviously if you really want to have maximum control of ride quality V3 or Bilsteins pss10 to adjust will be a must. As for me, the v1s get the job done well for my desires.

Thanks for the input. I'm still searching for literature that confirms the STs and KW v1 having the same spring rates but the SS construction is definitely a plus if you plan raising/lowering based on the season.
BTW is that the smoke or black vinyl delete?
