Bumping this thread back up, where is the best place to source parts for a B7 swap these days?

    Thanks.

car-part.com has a good search result, they appear to be around $150; cheaper without the arm rest if that's not a concern for you.

exactly, search the 'ol interwebz and make some phone calls.

-That's a great deal since the shipping on these has got to be up there; this upgrade is high in the priority list..

The only thing it didn't come with was the e-brake cover. $45 from GAP. And you don't need the B7 cover bracket, just the cover. The B6 bracket works better.
what was the part number for the e-brake cover. the parts list from the other thread doesnt say e brake cover

To those who did the center console upgrade, did any of you install the B7 front ashtray as well? (which also has a power outlet/ cigarette lighter.) I am just wondering what exactly is needed to have this sucessful hooked up and functioning.

its a different ebrake cover for the b7. the b6 has pieces that come down and will hit the plastic trim under the ebrake.

The plastic trim covering the bank of wires under the ebrake needs to be trimmed even if using a B7 ebrake handle cover to make the handle move freely up and down without contacting it. Its a minor detail, the handle will still move up and down, but it is annoying so I trimmed mine so it felt OE smooth.

Necro bump but i would like to add some info.

I used the B7 ashtray too and wired up the cig lighter. Best picture right now with a charger in it (green LED)

Also, the B7 handbrake trim piece needs to be used, the B6 won't fit at all from what I see..

+1 on cutting up thay plastic box around the wires passing the handbrake on the drivers side.

Unhook the handbrake cables AFTER taking the handbrake out with two 13mm. A lot easier.

    Hey Everyone,

Just completed this mod with the help of Mr. Matt Devo. Pictures below:

It took a bit of time to get all the B7 Center Console pieces (small fabric/carpet at the rear, rubber mat for the cup holders, etc.) but I'm happy with the result. I think for the parts alone, it came out to be around $215-230 for everything.

Question: I retained and am currently using the B6 E-Brake assembly with the B7 Hand Brake Boot (8E0-711-463-D-6PS), and it isn't super smooth up/down due to the angle of the assembly. Is this something common with those that have reused and modified the B6 E-Brake assembly to work with the B7 Center Console?

    Thanks in advance! =)

    Thanks,
    Asif

I reused the B6 E-brake and I also wouldn't consider the brake engaging operation "super smooth"; but I think most of my issues are related to the plastic shroud apron, it required some cutting and filing that might need to be revisited.

I just finished this modification on my 2005 Avant. I've done a lot of work on my B6 but this little project ranks up there as one of the most satisfying of modifications. Only after I had done several long road trips did I realize just how useful functional cup holders can be while traveling. (the OEM folding cupholders are NOT functional)

I picked up virtually all of my parts from eBay sellers with a couple of trim pieces from ECS. My gratitude to CrazyCal for writing this up and taking the time to post pictures of the process. The tips and tricks mentioned by everyone in this thread proved useful to me as I converted my console. I reused my B6 handbrake and the extra length B6 handle did play a role in my reassembly. I also found that trimming the plastic wiring carrier underneath was a necessity my case.

My gratitude to all who contributed.

Am I the only one who prefers B6 console to B7? in my opinion, it looks a lot better than the B7 one. Well, to each its own.
Just ordered a new B6 console form the dealer, because mine has those nasty phone dock holes.
    Awesome write up though.
