I'd like to hear some other spots people are thinking of putting this... I'm not super familiar with all of the nooks and crannies of the b6 yet...

Discussed the idea today with my mechanic. He sees the advantages and sees it wo(of the top of his head) thinking about wheelarch... but was convinced a location can be found. HE suggeseted hook up at the oilpressure sensor located at the back of the engine near the oilfilterhousing.

He also suggested a small electrally driven oilpump as a way to increase oilpressure before starting. This idea also apeels to me, need to look into that together with him.

He had only one concern for both solutions. He sees the (increase) in rattle as warning sign for the chain being stretched. If streched to far the chain could break or jump a tooth.
The accumulator or extra pump takes away this warning sign.....

Well, I will be doing something, but will wait on your findings wrt hookup, mounting location and result

It has already been discovered that the chain does not stretch enough, or at all really, to effect the timing. No one needs to buy a new chain when doing this service either, so I dont think this is an issue as he speaks.

I hope youre talking about doing this INSTEAD of the sump, because thats exactly what the sump it does. You wouldnt need both, and personally, id rather use the sump.

Yes, obviously, either or, not both.
The pump solution might be smaller and maybe cheaper
The accumulator is earier, hope it becomes clear where to put it.
If desertflyer & ALi show where it is and that it works I think this is how I want to go.

Btw if the chain does not stretch, what causes the rattle? Do the springs relax, loose strentgh??

I agree, that before it would be able to jump the wheels it would have to stretch very far and also there needs to be enough space.

Just ideas and while waiting for pictures and DIY instructions

Its the tensioners and guides not not tensioning the chain (because of the low oil pressure on startup) that cause the chain to "slap" against them. Its THOSE two peices that fail most often.

I my self am going for the Accusump RACE setup, as y car is a deticated track car.

well since all the interested people doing this mod are here an keeping it live , I did tackle some stuff in my car got the fitting were I am
hooking my system, And is thru the were the oil pressure sender is, drill and tap the fitting so keeping the sender in the same position made a short AN6 flex line so the valve can be attached seperate from the accusump less space for the accumulator is needed.I did fit the accumulator on top of the Intake but it doesn't look nice , I still think it should be fit under the car ,battery well is to small, engine bay it tight, fender well is were I,m cheking this when i get some time ,if not behind front bumper .going slow on mine since work takes alot of time off.i got some crappy cell pictures i will try to post.

^ I think the OP is the only one who is got this system completely installed and running. There's gotta be room behind the bumper, in front of the radiator to mount this thing.

But yeah someone needs to be postin up some pics.

Pull the passenger aux radiator, use the oil lines that fed the oil cooler circuit in there to go into the reservoir, and thereafter route to an added oil cooler in front of the radiator.

very important question. Does it work? No more rattle?

I understand you moved the valve from the sump to the oilsensorfitting for space purposes, but it also looks very tight there!!
How big is the sump you used? ISit 2 or 3 qt??
Has a T-piece been fitted to put the sensor and oilsump on the block together??

More pictures, also of parts would be great!

That looks the same as 1qt one I have sitting in my garage waiting on an install also.

I was thinking of going into the system after the oil cooler maybe at the fitting but would love more detial on yours and maybe the OP if he is still chekcing.

my unit is 1 qt ,the fitting is a custom made 45 angle AN6 to 1/2 npt out of stailess steel I drill and tap the side to 1/8 npt so the oil sender can be in the same location, the loction on top engine is temporary until it gets tested ,i have done a couple starts hot wiring it and yes no more rattle i,m working on the wiring hook up to the car .

No group buy ever happened but the guy I ordered mine from made a note so if people refernce it he will keep track of the orders and if breakpoints are hit he will refund the difference to each. This is what he said but that was 6 weeks ago so whoe knows but if you want their info PM me and I can shoot it to you. Their price even without the discount was the most reasonable I found. He got everything (accumulator, electric valve, mounting brackets and universal install kit) to me shipped for about $380.

Hey guys, going to take a first stab at this tomorrow and was hoping someone may have or can point me to a schematic that shows the oil system on these engines. I plan on just following lines etc to poke around but would be nice if I had a map rather than flying blind. I have searched online but have not found anything very usefull.

    Thanks in advnace.

After spending a few hours under and around the car taking of fender liners etc. the accumulator will not really fit anywhere except in the front bumper between the lower grill and radiator or on top as Latosa has done. Also as he did there does not seem to be anywhere to really easily access the oil system except the pressure sensor under the filter housing. It very tight and I dread having to try to get in there but there seems no alternative. I need to modify my T fitting or find or order a Y fitting to access the galley as he did.

Latosa, just to double check the tread size of the hole in the block is 1/2" npt and for the sesor you drilled and tapped a 1/8 npt and used an apadter to M10 which is what I believe the sensor is?

My kit came with a T that has 1/2" npt on one end and the other two end are both AN10, one which will go to the accusump, no issue there and then I will need a converter from the AN10 to M10 for the sensor. Does this sound about right?

No, the hole on the block is not a 1/2 inch I use that fitting but it is a custom fitting I made and is tig welded . as for the location tomorrow I,m removing the front bumper the see were i can custom place this thing since i took some measurement again and is very close to the hood about a 1 inch .and i don't ruin my hood .if you want you can pm your cell I can go with you thru this .

    Hey Latosa,

Thanks for the conversation yesterday, cleared up a lot. I found a local shop that makes large M to NPT adapters. Did you by chance happen to take it back apart and see what the size of that fitting was or if anyone else knows the size of the opeing in the block where the adapter plate which the oil pressuer sender plugs into please chine in.

This is the opening in question, under the oil filter housing:

My efforts have been back burnered at the moment as still trying to figure out what size hole that is in the back of the block without taking it all apart first. Talked to the local dealers parts and tech as I fiugred I would just buy a new one and use it as a guide but they seem to have no clue what I was talking about. They dont show any adapter and the parts person said it must come as part of the block. I remember when dealers actually used to try and help people, not so the case nowadays.

I am not surprised. Good job looking up that info. I'm not skilled enough to help at this point but I am definitely looking into doing this when all is said and done.

Also, I am in Italy and should be making a few trips to Germany while I am here. If it's an availability issue for any parts let me know and I'll see what I can do.

So to bring this one back from the dead ,I have been running my accusump now for at least a month now and no more CHAIN RATTLE ON STARTS ,at the end I think is better for our V8 engines overall.

This is music to my ears! Will you be writing up DIY soon? Myself and sure others would really appreciate a write-up on how you installed and parts list required. Thanks for tackling this and testing you did, really appreciate it!!

    Hi,

Some indication wrt the hookup to the block would be great, threat dimension and location of the sensor. (is it below oilfilter)
I know the accusump has 1/2"NPT threat. I need to know what the other end of the oilline needs to be in order to have a line made that directly fits to both ends without extra adapter(s)

Where did you put the accumulator in the end?
I am thinking about boot, takes a longer line but no drilling needed.

    Thanks for info

Dude, nice work. It looks good. But sounds like a lot of little mods to get it to work.

got my kit today. Got an extra sensor with adapter to be able to get the correct couplings without disassembling the sensor from the car. Going to get hose and couplings tomorrow. Try and fit it (in the trunk) asap.
Will make picture and diy while working.
