Hi guys,

Long time MB driver and after about a year of patience, research and watching for the right car, today I put a deposit down on an Allroad!

2016 Audi Allroad. 19,000 miles, single owner. CPO
Monsoon Gray Metallic
Chestnut Brown Interior
Premium+, Sport Package, Tech Package, B&O Sound, Wood Inlays.

Very excited to pick up the final year of the B8.5's with essentially every option available!
Get to pick up the car in 2-3 weeks and plan to prepare for a full detail. Wash, Claybar, Iron-X, Wash, Polish and final wax.

A couple questions since this is my first Audi.

1) What's the best scan tool for a DIY'er? for my MB's I have the MBII scanner which accesses almost all modules etc. I do all my own maintenance, nothings off limits essentially, so what's the choices here?
2) Not very familiar with the ZF transmissions. On my MB's, its always been advantageous (IMO) to change the transmission fluid at 30k to eliminate the initial wear from any disks with changes every 40-60k thereafter. Would it be silly to consider doing a pan drop, change filter and top back up when the car hits 30k? I typically own my cars for 10+ years, so this purchase is for the long haul.

1) Vag-com is definitely for you. It does just about all you said MBII does. If you go on RossTech’s we are you’ll see it easily
2) I’m not entirely certain but I think I read someone ask ZF and they said closer to 60k-70k miles? There’s a pretty long thread on here for when the dealership told someone that they should never replace the fluid or filter. I’ll link it for you when I find it

Sounds good. I will probably wait until my B2B warranty is up as I'm assuming Audi could call void if they see the fluids been changed. So I will do my first change at that point, which will probably be 30-40k'ish.

What are you guys using to:
A) Find part numbers? so I can be 100% sure on part numbers

Well, she's finally home! Glad to finally show her off.

Got a quick wash and interior detail along with a leather condition! Very happy with my purchase!









Next up I plan to purchase:
-touch up paint from dealer for a few stone chips
-full canvasback cargo liner, including the side pieces and the bumper flap
-sunshade, I've had great interior protection with the covercraft shades unless there's a better one
-VCDS of course :)
-Factory oil dipstick (call me old school, even though I'm only 30, but I want to see the oil on the dipstick rather than the dash telling me its OK)
-Underseat storage bin mod (after above are done)

Maintenance:
-Front, rear and center differential/transfer case fluid (maybe overkill, but all cars I've ever owned have shown dark diff fluid from break in period, then essentially no wear, so I want to get rid of all that)
-Brake fluid flush using my Schwaben power bleeder
-Air Filter
-Claybar, polish and wax paint (waiting a few more weeks since bumper was resprayed and there's always some opinions to let paint harden. not in a rush so I'll wait a couple more weeks)

Stuff I want to look up:
-Big brake upgrade (potentially soon...these dusty german pads hurt my soul, will see how long I can hold out)
-Clear lenses for HID? I'd like a cleaner cutoff...I am running Evo-R HID projectors on my E350 and they are simply incredible so I'll have to search what I can do with the Audi

As for brakes you have a few options. If you just want to reduce dust, I highly recommend the Akebono Euroceramic pads, rock auto carries them for a good price and they perform well with a large reduction in dust. If you want bigger brakes, there are a bunch of OEM options but generally the Q5 3.0T/Porsche Macan front brakes are the most popular (345mm rotor vs. 320mm and a 4-Piston Brembo caliper).

I thought about that, I run Akebonos on my E350 in the background and the dirt levels are so much better.

I may hold off until early next year then just do the whole 345mm Porsche Macan calipers, disks and akebono pads. Looks like it’ll cost about 800-900 total. Mostly want the visual improvement but a little more grab and easier pad changes are a welcomed addition

Well the dealer I bought it from is playing games with me —

1) I still don’t have the CPO packet I was promised. I want the copy to see the checklist of items for my records

2) I had to argue to get them to give me the spare and emergency key for the car, which is PART of the CPO requirements!! Dealer says it’s on order so I’ll give them some time on this one.

What a fiasco for an otherwise nice car...I can’t believe what non-car people do with stuff, I mean they’d have no idea they are owed two keys with a CPO!

Well after STILL no follow up from the dealer on my second key and emergency key my patience was running extremely thin.

I emailed the GM directly and within an hour I have the CPO invoice I was owed, and a confirmation that the key was ordered with my local dealer.

Why do some people think they can lie about things and think they will just go away? Did he really think I was just going to forget about $500 worth of keys owed to me??

Yep...unfortunately my criteria of a 2016 Allroad in Monsoon Gray, sport package, tech package, wood interior, brown leather and less than 25k miles made the number available essentially none. When this popped up I needed make it happen!

So quick update -- Finally got the spare and emergency key from the dealer. Took me 2 + 1/2 months of fighting them, but eventually got it shipped and programmed by my local dealer at no cost to me.

-Got the Covercraft UV11094SV sun screen and it fits like a GLOVE! Highly recommended. Will keep the AZ sun off the dashboard.
-ZKW-r lens retrofit went successfully and my bi-xenons are now very good. Link here: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...enon%E2%80%99s
-Canvasback Cargo, side and bumper liner got installed. Fits great and will protect the carpet and keep it like new.
-VCDS came in last month and still learning all the available functions, but did the gauge sweep on start which is cool.

Next Weekend:
Got the ECS Billet Dipstick, Liqui Moly Leichtauf 5-40w and an OE Audi Oil Filter ready for the first 5k interval oil change. I'll be doing 5k intervals with LM to keep maximum chain life as this cars for the long haul (for me, I mean it, since my last car I had for 12-years).
Plan to keep documented photos of each oil change and all receipts, since I am in CPO warranty for another 2-years and I dont want any questions if anything goes wrong and they question my own oil changes.

Next projects in January:
1) Full 3M window tint

2) B&O Subwoofer upgrade.
I plan to use the following ingredients:
-Audiocontrol LC2i to cleanly convert the B&O sub wiring to the amp
-Amp still TBD, but leaning the Alpine MRV-M500
-Subwoofer JL Audio S110LG-TW3

I think that should complete the only missing piece in the B&O system, since overall I am pretty happy with the factory sound quality aside from the fact the bass in the spare wheel space is worthless.

The Akebono pads are a must upgrade...made a huge difference on my allroad especially come cleaning time.

The brake upgrade was and still is one of the best things I've done on my Allroad.
Good luck on the color decision / debate - there's many different owners with a wide array of color choices.

First oil change on the girl! Easy as pie. Glad I bought the ECS dipstick as well. I always fill to the MAX because...the solution to pollution is dilution! Get as much oil in as you can!
My factory MB oil filter tool fits perfectly on the Audi as well. Can't beat this chunk of metal and well worth the $30 over those cheap chinese ones at autozone that round out after a dozen uses.

23,150 miles. Will continue to use 5k intervals with Liqui Moly 5-40w and the OE Factory filter. Once I'm out of warranty I'll mix up between Mann and OE, whatever is available when I order parts. Any other oil filter brand is (IMO) inferior.

Reset interval with VCDS and then set the next reminders for 5,000 miles, or 365 days. 10,000 is far too long for a 5qt sump, turbo charged, direct injection engine...Don't care what Audi says, they are plain wrong on this one if you want the chain to last beyond 150k+.

Next update in the build...

#1 -- Heres a quick photo of my 8" Sub setup, temporarily. Amp I am good with - Installed on the underside of the factory amp housing. Going to rebuild the box because I ended up not considering the factory privacy cover, which meant the box was too tall... For now I am happy though until I get an extra day to build a new box.







#2 -- Found out the original owner purchased Audi Care, so I have coverage of 25/35/45k services up until 8/2021. Of course the dealer didn't tell me this...no surprises.
My plan now is do 2x changes myself, then have the dealer do the 3rd 10k change, so approx 3300 mile OCI. I'll have them do my first brake fluid change in coming months when I schedule the 25k service.



#3 -- Got the front dashcam installed (Blackvue 750s). I have the rear still to install, however I want to run the wire through the tailgate rather than have a wire showing everytime you open the trunk. Will work on this over the next few weeks.
Still figuring out if I like the install placement. I get the right edge cut off because of the mirror mount, however its dead stealthy here. Weighing up the pros and cons...for now I like it though. The hardwire power module is mounted on the underside of passenger carpet set to 6hr 12.0v cut off.







#4 -- Got the window tint completed. Went with 30% 3M Colorstable all way around, including the panoramic roof (cost was $580 total so not too bad and it was a flawless job done). With the factory colored glass, it makes the rear approx 15%, which is perfect for me4






Next up after I finish the rear dash cam install will be
-Front BBK upgrade using the Porsche Maccan calipers. I'm torn between going the ECS 2-piece rotors, however its $200 for Zimmerman slotted versus $580 for the ECS to save what 6lbs weight? ...ugh... Sticking with Akebono ceramic pads.
-Rear S4 brakes. This will move from 300x12mm solid rotors to 330x22mm vented. Mostly for visual, but nothing wrong with some added power, especially with the long-term Ko4 plan.

Well got the rear dash cam installed yesterday finally. Worked great and no wires showing!

Just ordered a fresh set of Morimoto XB D3S HID bulbs in 5500k and the Morimoto T15 LED reverse light bulbs so I can improve the reverse light spread.

In addition, I’m about to get the order going for the front BBK upgrade, only issue is I really want to get Akebono pads..
-when I search 2014 Q5 3.0T on the Akebono product page it does come up with one listed as EUR1663 and it visually looks right and does show up on ECSTuning

I have those same Morimoto headlight bulbs in my A4 and they're great, very bright and very white!

Those Akebonos should work. On a very good recommendation I ended up going with the OE pad made by Brembo. Very progressive feel (not grabby), low dust (my rears get dirtier than my fronts), and I only get a squeal on the first stop of the day (if it’s humid and I park outside) so almost never. Btw I’m pretty aggressive and there is no lack of power in this setup. Bled them twice in a row, 2 person, do a VCDS ABS output test in between.

I’ll have to look it up again. I thought all you do is once you hit the reset service indicator option it gives you a list and in there is the time til next interval, you just edit and put 5k in. Pretty sure that’s what it was

Very nice to see this build progressing! We have the same calipers: I just put mine on, and love them so far. See about getting SS lines while you're at it, just to have even a bit more fun. As far as powdercoating goes, go for it. I'm running mine as-is just to see the Porsche labeling and make people upset :)

Well got the LED reverse bulbs in, but I cant seem to see why the taillight assembly wont come off...can't find a video or anything anywhere on how it comes apart. I've removed the long plastic screw, but the outside side of the assembly doesnt seem to want to come out. Anyone know?

Can't stand these front pads for much longer...the dirt shown in photo 2 is from only 3/4 days of driving. Crazy dusty...Akebono pads supposed to be in tomorrow. Calipers probably not in for another week or so, hasn't shipped yet so either way will be held up on those.

Got the LED Reverse Bulbs installed tonight and coded out the bulb out error. Was hoping the Morimoto LED's wouldn't trigger it, but they did. No big deal.

Here is the coding you need to use for B8.5 (its different than B8 because facelift has 4 reverse lights, B8.5 has 2.)

1.Module 46 Central Convenience > Security Access 16 > 16017 (use this access code, not the one the ross-tech suggests)

2. Adaption 10 > Channel 181 >Read The value you get is 65535 (verify this, if its different, do not proceed until you check everything)

3. Set it to decimal 62463. (Binary 1111001111111111)

Save and exit, done! No bulb out error light.

Results, including from the side. Significantly brighter. If you stare directly at them, it is quite blinding, but you WANT to be seen when reversing!!





Also have the Morimoto XB D3S in 5500k ready to go in now. Will do that this week and post some before and after photos.



In addition, my Porsche calipers are scheduled to arrive TOMORROW! Can't wait to post some photo's tomorrow of them. I'll have everything ready to install next weekend. I'm actually planning to set my Go Pro up on a tripod and video the swap....so by the end of it, you guys can replicate what I've done with part #'s, prices and a step-by-step to show anyone can do this with a few tools.

Just did the Porsche Macan calipers to my car! Love the setup. Double-check fitment with your wheels, and you will be all smiles. Make sure you bleed these properly, as well. I got hung up with my bleeding procedure. A few taps with a rubber mallet (lightly) will help to dislodge any air bubbles from the caliper. Enjoy!

Yes hoping my factory 18's will fit ok. I haven't found any threads saying anything about factory 18's touching, but I guess I haven't found anybody specifically saying it DID fit either...
I have a pressure bleeder, so should push out any air without issue.

There is a template floating around somewhere where you can size up the wheels to the brakes before installing them. I think it's on ECS's website. You cut out the paper template, and fit it into the hub ring on the wheel to check clearance. That's how I found out my A4 18" S-Line wheels would need spacers, but my A5 18" S-Line would be just fine. Do this first!

All done! What I did was remove the stock caliper first, mounted the new Porsche caliper (leaving rotor intact), then attached the wheel back on to be 100% before going further. Fit fine and still has a good 1/2" room against the face of the wheel.

First two images are SAFETY FIRST. I elected to raise the car from the engine support crossmember, then use jackstands on the pinch weld, along with the tires removed and placed under the car as well. You cant be too careful...Never be careless!













Unfortunately upon test drive, the pedal length was almost to the floor. I know there was still bubbles coming out as I was bleeding, but after 400ml on each caliper, I was running out of fluid and hoped it would be ok...obviously not. I'll have to run to local parts store today and get another 1 or 2L of DOT4 fluid and rebleed the calipers. Obviously 1L is NOT enough to get them fully bled. A lot of air pockets it seems...

I have a video that I recorded, but may take me some time to edit etc. Overall, these calipers are plug and play. Dust shield doesn't need to be touched at all, not even a bend. The swap was easy as pie. About 4hrs total going in blind.

So based on my parts list stated further up, I can confirm everything works! I REALLY like these Zimmerman rotors. They also weigh slightly less than the stock 320mm rotors too...just by feel. Maybe a few lbs at most.

EDIT:
Well just bled both front calipers, from both ports for a second time and its much better, but there is still some spongeyness in the middle of the pedal travel. Thats enough work for one day, but I'm going to keep feeding through the last 1L (since its essentially pushing new fluid through now) and see if any more bubbles come out tomorrow.
Also did some reading that I may need to activate the ABS pump via VCDS if thats where the air is trapped. Might try that as well. I know the pedal travel is not the pads, theres definitely some stubborn air...
