    Frustrated...

Living in College Station, TX for school, I don't have many options as far as shops go to have work done on my B7. Anyway, I've been going to Autoworks for any work I need done because they seemed to be the most qualified to work with audis. I've had a test pipe, RS4 sway bar, dynavin nav unit, and an upgraded diverter valve sitting in my room for a semester and I finally got around to dropping off the car to get these installed. So I drop off the car with the parts and for them to perform 55k maintenance, no problem. They call me 2 days later (today) telling me that they refuse to install the rear sway bar and test pipe claiming that "there is no reason I should have them unless I am racing the car"...what a bunch of monkeys. Needless to say I don't have access to a jack or the tools needed for the job down here, and I'm quite frustrated as these sweet parts are going to have to sit in my room for a bit longer now.

Why don't you post on the regional forum and see if anyone close to you can help you install these parts for beer?

I can see them not wanting to Install the DP as it is a $10,000 federal fine for tampering/knowingly removing a catalytic converter.. But a sway bar? Really, com'on.

X2 on the regional forums. A lot of guys don't want money (Sometimes its nice to throw them a couple of bucks) they just want someone to share the car knowledge with along side a beer. Hoping, that you will be able to pay it forward sometime in the future when someone like yourself runs into a similar problem.

    Best regards,
    Sean.

yea the tp i guess i can see, but the 10,000 dollar fine is only applicable if you tamper with the cat, removing it doesn;t count, but if you were to say, drill a bunch of holes through the cat, then you qualify for that 10,000 dollar fine....'

find a new shop and def check out the regionals....the rs4 sway doesn't require anything except wheel ramps, 1/4 inch racthet, the correct socket sizes and an extra set of arms to help you with finagaling the sway bar in and out, and pushing down on the exuast to help you out

"The $10,000 fine is for the shops. They're not allowed to remove a working cat or tamper with one for a customer. That's why they won't touch the car unless they are reinstalling stock equipment."

That is what I was trying to get at.

    Best,

There is only 1 mechanic that will tamper with my catalytic converter near me. It is a Huge No No for most shops

Also, if you're not already a member, check out TAG (texasaudigroup.com). There are quite a few Houston members on the board that might be able to help you out.

Maybe it's an aggie thing... Maybe you should transfer to a real school...

You should probably go to Austin or Houston to get your work done. I would figure Houston would offer you more choices.

You know, the sway bar arguably makes the car safer too. Better handling and control. I'm sure they wouldn't gripe if you wanted to put better or more expensive tires on the car.

FYI, some places wont put different size tires on your car then what is called for on the door (or manual). I know in the jeep community this is a big deal, I had to dance around Sams club to finally get them to sell me some 35" Goodyear MTR's... Lawsuits run this country.
