so if I want a sound that is louder WOT but not too loud at idle and light throttle and with minimal drone and rasp, should the x-pipe go right after the down pipe resonators?..or should it go near the bend where center resonator was?

If you want this, you should wait a few weeks more for Milltek's valved exhaust.

Guys, i removed the 2 baby mufflers from my car.... SOUND IS EVEN BETTER......... PErformace on high rpms feels better too.

Current setup is OEM CATS, Resonated X PIPE, MUfflers...

I had done the MagnaFlow X-pipe + magnflow mufflers (single tip though, my poor communication).
You were right the drone did settle down some (blends in with rough road noise), but under load it is still there, not enough to really bug me, but my one the freeway my wife did say "So, is that your fancy 'new' exhaust? (sarcastically)".

But I am very interested in getting some high rpm sound as my setup seems almost silent (exaggeration) above 3.5k rpms.

Well, anything is better than stock I guess lol. My xpipe exhaust was also quiet above 3k. Sounded great on startup.

My installer painted everything with some black protective paint to avoid rusting on welds, its entirely black. Hoping it holds up well. It was pretty good work.

That 2k rpm under load sounds similar to mine, but I have the resonated xpipe + magnaflow mufflers. Mine might be a little quieter though, but noticable when apply throttle. For some reason I think diegoman's drone is quieter than mine.

I made a pretty crappy video, but the point was to show off the drone while driving at highway speeds. Back seat is up, so this is normal driving (albeit cold as hell lol). You should be able to hear the worst of it around 0:15 where I give it gas in 7th at 75 MPH - about 2k rpm which to me is the area of the worst drone.

I'm serious considering this now. Be curious of in car drone video, does it drone any more with the baby mufflers gone, also some more high RPM clips. That video actually was pretty good sound. Got a good idea of the low, and a little bit of the high RPM buzz there. But wasn't sure if the sound went away because foot left gas peddle or it quieted down when RPM's increased.

Question here. Do u have drone with the res x pipe??? I dont. Mine were pretty quiet which was why i took the baby mufflers out.

Now it sounds very nice. Better refined sound. NO drone....

I dont have a way to make more videos but ill try.

Dropping down $3k for a full exhaust is a bit much right now, and I think this would be a great thing to try out (2012 DSG).

personally after having both i dont see much benefit for the awe/apr/miltek over the x pipe, no power gains and for 1/10 the price you cant beat it

just make sure you get the stainless pipe, and have a professional shop do the install with a tig welder set up for stainless (most aftermarket performance shops should be able to accomplish this)

I resolved the drone using a resonated xpipe rather than the regular straight xpipe

Would this work or not, hopfully somebody has some info? Thanks

Look at the pic of my setup few messages before. Its baby mufflers delete with straight pipe. Magnaflow resonated xpipe and magnaflow mufflers with double 4" tip

I was thinking about doing the same thing. The AWE catback sounds great, but it's very refined (tone) and lacks some raw-ness (for lack of a better term). Straight piping the downpipes would just be a cheaper than getting the AWE non-res DP's, with roughly the same effect, right?

AWE already has an x-pipe. What about smaller resonators? Interested in other peoples opinions as well

I had the rear mufflers with a straight xpipe the sound was raw and very good... BUT i had drone. Mine is DSG. If yours is MT you can try that 4 sure

Just got my car back, now my car goes like so

OEM Headers -> OEM Catalytic Converters -> straight pipes -> OEM Rear Mufflers

So I basically removed the center "resonator" (a muffler) and the resonated downpipes.


Will post video soon. VERY RASPY, love it though

What I've gathered so far from reading this entire thread is that you replace the Center Resonator with the X-Pipe. That's what I'm gonna do!

I replied to the other thread as well, and have been contemplating the idea for a while. i'll try to stop by the muffler shop this week and ask them about it, and keep you posted
