I agree that it's silly. My solution has been to turn on the windshield defroster ONLY when I see fog developing on the windshield. Of course, I also have to quickly adjust the fan speed down to something reasonable - it's a pain in the behind.

LOL I just opened this thread to ask about the defrost hi-speed fan default, and you guys are already on it. Glad to see that I'm not the only one peeved by this.

Two questions sirs. Doing this for a B8.5 S4.

1. I followed the instructions with the Remote Window and Sunroof coding yet I do not see the option to turn in on in MMI like how it is with the prefacelift B8s. Anyone have any ideas?


2. Did this move? I went through all the bits and I seem to cant locate this when trying to code in a facelift B8.

Disable "Lights are on" Warning
[09 – Cent. Elect.] [Coding - 07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 5
Bit 3 - Set to 0 to disable "lights are on" warning when you open the door.

Hi everyone- new to the forums and have been looking through this thread for a while. I have a 2013 and a Hex USB from my 2000 S4. I installed the software and updates, and I'm unable to get it to communicate. Am I understanding the Vag Com site correctly that for the B8, I would need to get a Hex-USB-Can for it to work? Yes you need a HEX-USB+CAN cable - or the new HEX-NET WiFi interface.

The price is pretty much the price having watched pricing for several months before I purchased my cable. Rosstech does not do group buys either. You can usually get free shipping. Buying used is another option but the cables sell fast and hold value well

I searched for a while, like said, you can save a little off a used one, but the price is pretty much set.

It is what it is. But once you have it, it's awesome! No more SRI light and all these fun program mods.

just another person echoing what others have said. Moisted's price is really good for a used one. I'd snatch that up asap if you want one. don't think about it. don't research it. you own't find it for less than that anywhere. at least, not a genuine one. I was never able to find one below $300.

i got a non-genuine one from china. yeah, it worked. and then just stopped. and they only work with old versions of the software, and the laptop you use has to be not ever connected to the internet because the software will update and will lock you out of the cable use.

I need help with rolling up/down windows, open/close sunroof with key fob. Thank you in advance.

there should be a button that says Do It and then it will be saved. Do you have the latest version of software?

11.11.5 is the version. I have screenshots I took of where I'm stuck making the changes, can't attach them for some reason. No DO IT button

You change the bit (read right to left bit 0 => 7) and then move the focus away from the binary field (eg. use the TAB-key) - close the window, click "Do it!" - done.

I can see that it is not a B8 you're trying to do the codings to - so you need to find the right codings for the model in question.

If it is on your A8, then I don't think there are codings for the "Enable Front Turn Signals as Parking lights".

It's my A8 I'm trying this on, I'm sure I got the list from the A8/S8 forum on AudiWorld, but I could be mistaken. From the same list I was able to disable the seatbelt reminder. I mean if it's not possible, then its not. I do appreciate your time and responses.

AFAIK it is not possible on A6 (4F) nor A8 (4E) - but it is on A3 (8P) and A4/A5 (8K/8T).

Talk to one of the tuning company (APR/GIAC). I don't have an automatic, so no way for me to even try to figure this out. I have been through most of the menus just searching for coding stuff and I never saw anything that deals with transmission. The cable and program only deal with other electronic programming as far as I have seen.

I've been trying this for a while now. I thought I got this to work, but it didn't complete the adaptation so therefore the suspension light is on. Here's the issue I'm having..

(as per AudiWorld instructions)
Stock code : 0015510 which I changed to 0012210 - should give me stored values at 401 and 383 but it doesn't I get 381 and 368. So I enter the security code and enter adaptation... car lowers and raises -
Channel 1 - Stored value 381 measured at 381
Channel 2 - Stored value 381 measured at 381
then here's the issue..go to
Channel 3 - and it blinks "requires security code access"
and right there is fails. Doesn't complete adaptation.

Any recommendations why this is happening? Why am I not getting the correct stored values for 0012210? I would really appreciate some assistance with this.

So I was playing around with trying to figure out how to change the settings so I could lock the doors while the car is running with the key fob and didn't ever get it to work. I saw on the main screen for the VCDS software about "transport mode". anyone know what it does? I am assuming if you turned it on, the car would kind of hibernate to save battery life, but I don't know for sure. Figured if that was the case, it might come in handy when I go to ship my car back to the states.
