Thanks for posting that. I've not learnt anything new but it's made me realise something! :)

My car's been coded to comfort for months as normally my wife and kids use it .... but now I'll code it to individual.

Each key keeps it's own Individual settings hence it's the ideal solution. I'm just not sure why I didn't do this before !!

Yeah, this code only set the default position on the ADS button - if you don't have ADS, then you need to enable it first (search in the A4 thread for this)

    Now done :)

However I just noticed that the radio/media settings are not stored on the keyfob like on my B6 S4.

That explains why my music choice seems to have moved on from when I last drove the car! gggrrrrrr.

    Enable Seat Memory
    Could not find this one
Vincent, when I get home I'll go look at my coding to see what the Byte/Bits are for the Remote Operation. I just used the second part from AudiEnthusiasts that said "Check the box for "Comfort Operation: Remote Control active""

For "Enable Seat Memory", it only works on the A5/S5 AFAIK. Our S4s don't have the hardware to enable it... and if you have a Prestige model, you don't need to VCDS it.

Do it! - you will get a popup saying this is not a standard change and the would you like to use the generic Shop Code and the string is shown - accept this and it will rescan the module.

The DIS will now show Dx and Sx where "x" is the current gear you are in just like it should!
Great find! Looking forward to trying it when I get home!

What is it supposed to do? I tried this but didn't see anything different in MMI.
I didn't do this but in the CAR menu on the MMI, I have an option that was activated from the factory to turn my DRLs on or off on my US 2011 S4. Maybe it's different in the 2010s or for ROW? (I guess it let's you drive during the day like a "normal" car w/o DRLs if you don't want everyone to know that you drive a new Audi?)

For those who purchase the power folding mirror kit from ECS Tuning, you also need to enable them using VAG-COM.

Does anyone know if you need to enable exterior auto dimming mirrors if you add them?
I'm getting a 2011 S4 Premium Plus and want to add the exterior auto dimming mirrors if the wiring is present, which it appears it should be present based on mirror housing part numbers.

I ran out and did some VCDS stuff today in my car and you need to add to the "Enable adjustable interior lighting" section, there are 2 parts to it - the first is done in VCDS, the second is done in the MMI Hidden Menu.

    The VCDS part is this:
    [09 – Cent. Elect.] [Coding - 07] -> Long Coding Helper ->
Byte 16 Bit 6 - Set this bit manually to 1.

You will be able to tell where Byte 16 is as you click on each one (left to right) they count up. When you select it, there will be an 8 bit number in the window where you can manually change it, and 2 check boxes to change bits 0 and 1. Bits count up starting at ZERO through SEVEN, and go RIGHT to LEFT. So you will be changing the second number from the LEFT to '1' for this.

Once that is done you do the part in the Hidden Menu, otherwise the menu shows in the Car -> Setup screen, but is grayed out and you cannot use it.

vag com and 2010 B8 S4 without nav

before i order a vag com from ross tech, can somebody please confirm that I still change settings on a 2010 B8 S4 WITHOUT navigation?

i'm confused because it seems like accessing the "hidden MMI menu" is a necessity but from what I've read the hidden menu is only available in the new MMI that comes on navigation equipped cars.

    thanks for the help!

You don't need Nav, you still have an MMI with or without Nav.

It locks in stock to whatever mode you set it to, so you are stuck in Dynamic (for example) until you change it again manually with VCDS.

For sure. :) I meant what does it do in reality? Throttle response, different steering?

Yes, different throttle mappings, so a bit more power and throttle response. Faster shifts for the DSG, and some slight engine retard (though not enough for the hard "farts") with the 6MT, so you can really slam home to shifts, as well as tighter steering (less pump assist)

I don't know if this is common knowledge or not but I've only just found out :

In the various modules you can select "Output tests". No they don't change anything but you can pretty much activate all the different canbus components individually

e.g. servotronic assistance, power tailgate lock/open/close, individual external lights, MMI test, DIS test (i.e. display all icons/lights), activate alarm, move headlights, move mirrors, raise lower windows, test each speaker with a tone etc etc.

They're not changes but they might be useful if your tweaking/playing to check things.

    p.s. I didn't try the tests in the Airbag module !!!!!! ;)

Nice post Vincent. I have made the following changes:
    Activate tpms
    Turned off wink
    Turned off seatbelt warning
    Euro brake light
    Turned off side markers
Turned up led when headlights on to 5
There are a couple more that I can't think of. It's great that we are able to do these modifications.

Is the mirror dipping for reverse code correct?

I just went to apply it on my car (dealer reset everything a while back and I forgot this one!) and it seems wrong.

    Enable Reverse mirror tilt
    [52 Door Elect, Pass.] -> [Coding - 07] -> [Long Coding Helper] -> Byte 4
    Bit 4 set to 1

I had to to do this instead :

    Bit 2 set to 1

Bit 4 is for folding mirrors which I have and hence was already ticked.

Don't recall where I found these directions but here's what I have for Byte 4:
"If the byte has value 40 (cars without electrically folding mirrors), change it to 4C (or 44)
If the byte has value 50 (cars with folding or folding/dimming mirrors), change it to 5C."

    Hope that helps!

And translated into some useful bits, these hex value are then:

The first hex digit (4 or 5) doesn't have any effect here - so it is the last hex digit that has our interest, and one hex it four bit long

    C = 1100 (bit 2 and bit 3 are enabled)
    4 = 0100 (bit 2 is enabled)

The hidden menu is like an engineers menu. It's where things can be toggled on and off e.g. if you had something retro fitted.

It also gives access to many scary things that if you feck about then you'll feck your car.

These cars come in many configs and variations for different countries all over the world. The hidden menu gives access to see all the different settings and to adjust them.

    Tread carefully.

Good job putting this together Vincent, nice to have it all in one place and car specific. Plus, I'm sure not everyone is aware of the audienthusiasts website. Can't wait to find someone in my area with a Vag-com cable to get some of these done.

All the time is not possible AFAIK, but you can increase the speed at which it shuts off a little by VAGCOM:

I understood there are some other ways, e.g. by connecting the reverse cam to the video-in (if you have the TV module), than it will stay on until the max speed you can set via VAGCOM (to a max of 255 km/h, that seems enough :-))

Guys, am I retarded or what? I can get through these steps:
    [09 – Cent. Elect.][Security Access - 16]
    [Adaptation - 10]

generating and entering security code, which is accepted.. but when I try to select any channels 63-66, all of them are unavailable..

And yes, this should be a sticky along with "rear differential" leak thread.

    • Disable Key warning (keyless models)
    • Disable Seatbelt Chime
    • Enable Automatic Gear selection shown in DIS
    • Enable Battery meter
    • Enable Hidden menu in MMI
    • Enable Lap Timer
    • Enable Release Parking Brake without putting foot on Brake
    • Enable Release Parking Brake without putting seatbelt
    • Enable Remote Operation windows&sunroof
    • Enable VIM on MMI

Excelente post Vincent. I already had VIM enabled, and this week I made the changes above.

For some reason I still haven't figured out, right after doing all of those (at the same time) I "lost" the Keyless function (Start/Stop button). It is not working anymore, I cannot start the car using the button, only using inserting the key.... I've tried Disabling and Enabling Key Warning, trying to start braking the car... nothing worked. Does anyone got this problem, or know how to get it back?

Another question, definitelly more dangerous: I live in Brazil but got my S4 in US, since Audi does not sell this model down here. Therefore, my Navigation has the US data. I've noticed somewhere in the hidden menu that the Region for the Navigation was selectable (and there was South America on the list!!!!!). I didn't take my chance making the change, but does anyone know if this is would really F*** up the MMI? Different subject from this thread, but I'm trying to find a good way to get local maps to work on my system. Is this a way? Would I have to buy a new map (I haven't seem for Brazil yet)?

I just got a B8 S4 and I am a total noob with Audis but have had experience using obd2 scanners and even flash tuning via obd2. Can you link me to a good reseller for vag-com cable and software. The only info on found googling was in England and I'd like to avoid shipping to the states. I also want to make sure I get the right part.

I am in awe that you can do this sort of stuff. Im used to doing ECU tuning like scaling injectors and playing with timing and fuel maps and MAF curves. Now we are tuning the rest of the car. WOW! Too bad APR won't sell its tuning software. No such thing as a perfect world so I guess I will put up with an overpriced canned tune or wait a bit and see if anyone else cracks the B8 S4 engine management ECU.
