Are you planning on doing it yourself? If so, my advice is to:
-Buy the cable, download the software before you start (obviously).
-Print off a copy of the list on this site. This will let you review which changes you want to make, and you can also mark which ones you have made in case you need to re-do them at some point.
-Load the software on your laptop and just get comfortable with the interface before you start.
-If you are going to do it yourself, just plug it in and start to navigate around. It's really easy once you are in there. You'll get a feel pretty quick for what you need to do. If you are not sure at that point, just exit out and no harm will be done. It really won't let you change something by mistake.
-If someone else is going to do it, you really just need to do step two, and have the list handy (make sure you mark down what changes are made for future reference). Anyone that is going to make the changes for you will have a basic idea as to what the changes are and what needs to be done.
My biggest piece of advice is that it is a lot easier than it seems if you are semi-compentant with basic software applications. It's intimidating up to the point that you start to use the software, and then you'll realize it's pretty simple. I had no clue going into it, but had it all figured out within 15-20 minutes. I do have a lot of experience with controls software and binary type settings, but I am far from a software engineer. If you don't feel comfortable navigating around new software applications, find someone local that already has everything. There's always a local that will be willing to help for a few beers or similar. At the end of day, it's really a pretty easy to use windows interface (open applications, connect, navigate/click buttons to what you want to change, enter a value, navigate/click buttons, save, etc.).
