    HID Bulb Color Choices

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
We all love how much brighter our lights are compared to the other drivers, sad halogens. I love opinions and they are all welcome.

    There are many choices...

Which DS1 Bulb is your favorite. 10000K, 6000K, etc.
    Anyone use higher than 10000k?

10k+ and your shit is gonna start looking purple. I've seen 12k in person and wow were they strange and ugly looking. I had a hard time not laughing in his face when I seen it was a guy driving. Anything past 6k and you're in blue territory, which many consider "rice". Do what you like, but if you like purple, then well... there is no helping you as a human being, imo of course.

4000k is my personal choice. "IF" you must I wouldn't venture past 5000k.

I've been researching and supposedly the stock is best for all around visibility. Is there one better than 4300K

Nothing really "better". But the manufacturer does matter. Philips or GE are quality bulb makers. They tend to resist color shifting better than aftermarket bulbs.

He could have thrown in some Philips DL50's. That's about as bright as it gets.

IIRC it was proven on HIDplanet that the DL50's performance is so similar to the 85122+ is so minimal it's not worth the difference in price, let alone trying to find some good ones.

oh and to answer this thread, I would go max 5k.

Yeh, I guess it depends on how cheap you can find them. I got my pair for the same price as 85122+'s. And yeh, at 50w they are only about 500 more lumen.

    And here's a good deal on D1S http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GENUI...Q5fAccessories

Stay under 6000 deg. K if you care about the quality of the light. White/blue is all but worthless for night driving, especially in inclement weather. Greatly increases glare and reduces greatly your depth of field.

Judging by the responses, the german automakers made an educated decision to stick with 4300k. Has anyone had to replace a light yet.

I haven't, but that's the thing, OEM HID bulbs will "normally" last the lifetime of the car. What alot of people won't realize though is during that period their bulbs will continue to color shift to the point that their bulbs aren't providing the same amount of lumen as they did at the beginning of their 1st use. The avg driver won't even notice that they aren't lighting up the road the way they used to.

The 6000k Philips bulbs I got recently from Sonic Tuning are the shit - never seen anything as bright or clear for our car. The come very close to the lights on my TSX in brightness...

My OEM bulbs are badly color shifted, they almost look pink. I might have to get some Phillips 4300k D1S bulbs, or some Morimotos (retrofitsource's own brand, apparently pretty reliable for aftermarket stuff)

BTW if I recall correctly, RetrofitSource sells a pair of Phillips D1S for something like 120$, otherwise the eBay link Operator posted looks like an awesome deal as well.
