Man, you've been busy. Glad to see everything is working out and the vids are great. Tore into mine a bit today and got the prep work done for the steering rack. Should have that all switched out tomorrow and be back to driving it. I'll try and take some pics if I remember. But it's good to see yours back on the road.

Oh and since I now have a fair amount of the dash apart, I should be able to tell ya what fuse to hook into. I discovered today that somewhere in my center console, there is a XM module hooked into the radio. Found the power supply for it. If I don't find the unit itself, i'm going to remove the extra wiring. No need for it if it's not there anymore.

oh cool :) ill check out the power supply for the gauge when i get it. yeah it's nice to be able to start it and know it drives. i gotta pump the tires up and drive her around for a few miles to break it in. i'm so scared to drive it though... idk why i just feel like something will break or something... is this a normal feeling after a rebuild?

Yea, after major work there is always a period of wondering what the hell else can/will/might go wrong. After I rebuilt the VR6 in my jetta late last year I went through the same thing. Took about 1k miles (which at the time was about 3 weeks of driving to work) before I felt confident with it. However, I never had the feeling with my Scirocco's. I do all kinds of work to them and never give my work a second thought. It's rather odd now that I think about it.

i guess after you rebuild enough engines you get more confident in your work. i think next motor i'll definitely feel better about my work. looking back im second guessing myself with how i did some of my work... sucks because some stuff im like i think i did it right, but im not for sure.. next time ill know exactly what to do and expect when i take apart/put together a motor.

    Boost gauge installed, almost done.

Almost done, I just need to put the vent back together and make it look stock. This didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it to, but it's still pretty nice. $28.00 from eBay lol.

    Almost done. Opinions?

Also, on idle my vacuum is like -24. Is that too much? I keep seeing people posts saying they're like only -20.

pluschakovp - I have been following this thread for some time now and I will say I am impressed with everything you have done, really I am jealous.

With regard to your boos gauge, I like that too! Once finished it will look good...

Here is what I am going for... http://www.newsouthperformance.com/passatpod.htm
With a little heat gun action it will form fit our steering column.

    Thoughts?

hmm now that i think about it yeah, when i first ran the car it was only like 20, but after it heated up a little it's more around 22-24ish. k, so at least i dont have a vacuum leak, that's good! can't wait to break the car in and see how much psi i'll make.

thanks man. i like the gauge ur going for! looks nice. it seems like it'd get in the way of the tachometer (speed thing, i think.) today im hoping to finish the boost gauge. also i need to tighten down the battery. i forgot to after i did rebuild. i forget how it tightens down though.... i'll figure it out :)

Just a few pics while I wait for the State Patrol office to give me a call to schedule my inspection date. Here she is, all done, except my Passenger Fog Light, and Grilles. Oh and my rear right tire is a little flat. Soon enough I'll get my plates.

    Cell Phone Pics, sorry.

i still have this fear of the car though because I havent driven it more than a mile at a time since the rebuild. so im just waiting to see how it does when i get the plates and take her for a ride.

sad thing is i might be selling it soon. i need to pay off my loan for another car and i need money to reseal my a4 2.8. ill get another 2.7t soon though. i love the A6.. hard decision will be made soon.

i know right... after such a long time of rebuilding it's gunna be a shame to get rid of it. but hey, i will rebuild my a4, sell that, and work on getting another a6 2.7. ive always wanted a 400+ whp car so i think my next a6 will be a beast ;)

I'd almost have to say, sell the A4 and keep the A6, but I can understand you being apprehensive. Maybe see if you can put that decision off till you've gotten some real seat time in on the A6. It's a tough call to be sure.

yep, that'll def be my make it or break it once i get at least 100 miles of butt time in the a6.

the thing about the a4 is i have an oil leak in a few places and my 2nd gear is messing up so i need to pull the motor for that cuz i wont be able to sell it in that condition.

as i said, such a hard decision...

Got my vehicle inspection scheduled for 1-27-11.

Drove the A6 for 17 miles today. I really like how it drives again, really smooth and sounds great.

I'm feeling a little more confident with this rebuild now.

    Bahaha.

    Good News:

I have over 75 miles on the motor build and it drives like a champpp!

News, but it's not too bad:

My turbo outlet hose popped off my drivers turbo when I was driving. Just doing a light PSI test and hit about 8psi in 2nd and wooooshh! I knew immediately I had lost a hose off the turbo.

News, that I am excited for:

After I get my plates for the car, I'm going to do a quick weekend motor pull to tighten those outlets up cuz i forgot like a smart person to tighten them before i put the motor in and it's impossible to tighten now. ALSO, my wastegates need to be tightened. drivers side rattles a bit on idle and deceleration.

    Overall:

I'm happy with all of this news because I did a fabulous job for my first motor. Sure I forgot some things but hey, the motor runs good and I'm only 19. Got plenty of time to live and learn :)

Thanks for all the support :)

Awesome attitude. Though, I didn't think I would ever hear the phrase "Quick weekend motor pull" in reference to one of these beasts. Sadly, as soon as the temps come up a bit and I can get back on the FJR, I'll prollie be doing a motor pull as well. I think the PO did a piss poor job tightening the oil feed lines to my turbo's and they are leaking a bit. Not enough to drip to the ground, but enough to get on the turbo's and cause a tad bit of smoke and smell. Though naturally, I'll find other things to tinker with and fix as well.

Paul, I'm really glad to see you enjoying the A6. I'm really hoping you decide to keep it as to me, it's far more enjoyable and versatile then an A4. Good luck with the "quick weekend motor pull".

    Thank you :)

Yeah quick weekend motor pull might turn into about a weeks work. This will happen in February though. Finals weekend right now til Jan 29th in college :)

And yes William, I have decided to keep the A6 and rebuild the A4 just for the experience of working with more motors ;)

I have fallen in love with the A6, for some reason it drives more smoothly than the 2010 Cadillac Escalade I drove this summer. I am impressed with how well it drives... Lovely.
