This is soo true... I unknowingly had my front jacks one notch lower than the rear jacks (maaaaybe one inch overall??), and that's how I drained the car.... It wasn't until I put the plug back in and started refilling the rear when I realized the problem, cause it started overflowing 1/2 quart before it was supposed too

Is that the best way to flush it out?? By giving it a little Reverse Rake stance? Sounds like a bad kung fu movie! LOL
Or is there a nice big 'ol tranny drain plug down there??

Just came from Further. He has a 03A (not 02X). Too bad for me, but good for B6 S4 and others.

Hey Dan. Anyway to get B6/B7 S4 center diff core to the guys at VAST since they are like a midwest hub for you guys?? ; > Can't hurt to ask

Otherwise anyone know if Tristan at Further Performance in Minn would like to rent one of his b6/b7 cores? Trying not to be without the car for more than a day or two.

LOL - sorry if you misunderstood me man, but what I did was an accident and actually caused me to overfill the rear diff (cause it still had a little extra fluid inside from being tilted fwd)... you're supposed to have the car LEVEL when draining oils

Ah, that makes more sense. I was all excited to tear that mother out and I def misread your post. I'll level it out and drain out the rest when I put it back together.

Yeah, BIG F'IN HAMMER!! Those pins that hold the housing on were tight as Fxxx on my 2002 1.8T!
Then i needed a light 'tap' with a plastic dowel to pop the diff out of the housing.

I'm interested in this Group Buy. Is the price supposed to be $250, $100 off from the retail price of $350? or is that supposed to be $300 off from $400? The website currently shows $350 so I wanted to be sure.

    Instructions are here

The price will come down to $250 once the option for the group buy is selected.

    Here's a graphic of it:

Hi Guys, my S4 has about 95000km/59000 miles on it and still on the original clutch. I was wondering if while changing the center diff would it be the right time to change the clutch? Or does it not really make a difference in labour times/cost if I do it later.
The underlying reason is that while the car is in the shop, I was gonna do the diff and downpipes, but if it needs a clutch soon (not having any issues at the moment) I'd just do the diff and clutch.

    Thanks,
    Raj

My 2002 B6 1.8T Avant is a 5-Spd with the 01A transmission, so it was listed in the offerings on the JHM site and page 1 of this thread.

i have some big sweeping on/off ramps and big empty parking lots in my area if there are any suggestions

6mm allen for the driveshaft bolts and T45 torx for the rear cover. If you need to refill the trans fluid you need a 10mm allen. That is it. V6s and V8s usually take a little more work moving the exhaust out of the way. But 4cylinder turbo cars don't require this. There is a short write up on our product page.

The 02 1.8tis a 5-speed. yes we can do those. We can actually do ALL of them from 99.5 and up (except 06 and up B7 S4s and RS4s which we are working on now)

The downpipes do need to be disconnected from the cat back but not removed to do this. But if you are changing the downpipes it will save on the diff labor.

Also if the downpipes are out it should save on the transmission labor for sure. Since they will pull the downpipes regardless to do the trans your downpipe install would basically be free.

Sorry about the late update guys, It really does not matter at this point but if you are on the list and have paid and want to be marked as paid please shoot me a pm so I can mark you off the list. We just got a few orders from customers that did not put their screen names in the comments.

Obviously we met our goal for this GB but we are going to leave it open and the price where its at for an additional period of time for the late crowd.

    Thanks for everyone's participation!
