Also I am getting P1650 code right now. Is there a CANBUS wiring change between 00 and 01 for the instrument cluster that is causing this?
Off topic question, did you swap over the whole harness from the AWM ECU or just take the ECU and add VVT and the extra wideband wires.

Sorry bringing this from the dead. I have this issue, my ECU has a code of 07500 and I have an Audi S4, but AWM ECU. I have the Maestro 7, so I think it has to do with Eurodyne. I used my vagcom to recode, but it didn't work. Any ideas???

I don't really feel like dealing with Eurodyne.

ECU coding is pretty straight forward and not too many options for this. The only real thing to change is whether the engine is mated to an automatic transmission or a manual transmission or if equipped with ABS or ESP. Coding is as follows.

00XXX - The first two digits apply to the country.
*16 is the only available option for those in the USA

XX0XX - The third digit codes the ECU for what drive and options you have
    *0 states FWD with ABS
    *2 states Quattro with ABS
    *5 states FWD with Anti-Slip Regulation/Electronic Stability Program (ASR/ESP)
    *7 states Quattro with ESP

XXX0X - The fourth digit states which transmission you are equipped with
*0 is for 5 speed manual transmission
*5 is for 01V automatic transmission

XXXX0 - The last digit will state which vehicle the ECU is installed in.
*1 states installed in Audi A4

EX: A manual, Quattro A4 in the US should be 16201 or 06201

    Thanks for this post.
I just swaped my ecu and needed it coded from auto to manual. Took all of 1 minute following these steps. car is working perfect now with no rise in rpms and no trouble codes!

Yes you can recode your ECU. But reading between the lines here, I don't think you have the right tools of the know how to do this yourself. You can buy the tools and take the time to learn the know how. But it would probably be cheaper and less of a headache for you to just buy a used ECU that is made for a manual already.

If it's the same part number (or compatible) and it's coded for the right drivetrain (fwd or quattro) then you should be good. You might need a vagcom anyway though to realign the throttle valve to the new ecu.

Speaking of ecu's I got my APR chipped ecu off clist from a wrecked B5 Passat. It's an 557N ecu while my original was a 557P. Recoded it to manual and it works but it throws the code P1681 "Control Module Programming Not Finished". Have driven on it for 1.5k miles and it seems to be perfectly fine and it doesn't trip the CEL. Am I good?

Im pretty sure that code is for unfinished soft coding. check to make sure its programmed for quattro no traction and not quattro with traction control. (or vise versa) Check soft coding. I had that code before and a reflash and soft coding fixed the problem.

Thanks, will check it out. Need to get the ecu recoded for cruise control anyway.

558M? That's an uncommon part number. 557M, 557N, and 557P are the only compatible ones I believe.

Makes sense really since it isn't even the same number, letter aside. Sell it and buy a used tune is where I would go from there.

You might need to do a throttle body alignment. FWIW, Autothority has been out of business for years. Porsche Pit Stop bought them which i think went out of business too.

    What version of VCDS?

Do you need the full version or is the Lite version OK to re-code to manual from auto?
