I was reading on my manual and this feature requires a timer and other crap. It seems complicated but I'm sure some of you guys can hack the system on the convenience module and get it done.

You could locate the module it self and check the part number, or go to the Central Electronics (number 09) tab in vagcom and read out the part number there. Should end with an F to make it easiest.

thats a great write up. honestly! since my car has the E control module, I need to look for the F, correct? Is it referred to as the ignition control module? I tried looking online (ebay) and that was basically all that came up with module and notations of E or F.

Do you specifically need an F module or any module after that sequence. I have an N module from a b7.

From what i have read, as long as its not an "e" module its doable.

"E" is the "lowline" module and the rest is "highline", and you need a "highline" to get the OEM cominghome.

No, the module is the Central Electric Control Module

    Re: Install coming home feature?

This is the part number a recent VAG log shows me from my car.

    8E0 907 279 F

I don't have the coming home feature and now think I would like it. I looked to see if by chance the wiring is there already but I could not find it. If I follow the wires from the light switch to where they runs behind the relays, there appears to be something wrapped up inside that cloth tape, because the diameter of the bunch about doubles.. I just can't reach in there to unwrap it so see if it is what I need. It would sure make it easier than running new wires.

My connector was tied up to the light switch cables with zip ties and covered in black tape. Was lying just above the fuse box.

    Re: Install coming home feature?

That sounds just about what I am seeing. It appears to be further into the foot well for mine though. Just out of my reach. The wrapped group of wires branches out just as it comes from around the relays. There is a set that goes to what looks like a sensor or thermostat in the dash vent, another to the light that illuminates the vent icons and the rest continues on to the light switch.

But before all that - the wrapped set is really thick like something is tucked away in there. So I'll investigate a little more.

thanks al3x for that tip. If I have the connector and wires then it looks like I just need to get a switch!

(ps. I think I have a light sensor, I have retrofitted a compass mirror from another A4 that had the coming home feature, just VAG doesn't recognize it, compass and autodim work though).

do you or anyone else have a picture of the cable? i have the highline module as well as all the DIS features (fuel consumption, bulb out warnings, etc.) but i cannot find the hidden connector for the life of me. any idea of where this is hidden? if anyone has a picture of the connector that goes to the Coming Home switch and where the wires originally come from behind the headlight switch, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have a cell phone picture of it, I will email it to you if you would like. I would post it up but I haven't figured that out yet. The picture is of a factory installed plug. The plug pig tails out of the main light switch harness about 8 to 10 inches down so you shouldn't have to look very far. Mine car did not have it. I spent 45 minutes unwrapping the harness before I gave up and decided to look at the control module plug to see if pin #24 was connected. It wasn't so I knew right then I need to make my own. I ended up making a connector from a plug that goes to a PC motherboard.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated, I would love to be able to add the auto headlights now that I have the coming home as well as the auto dimming rearview that has the light sensor.

its surprising no one has retro fitted auto headlights, I've ran searches to see if there are any write ups on how to do it and no one has made one other than the write up for the C5 A6, hopefully I'll be able to pick up a used auto headlight switch soon and try it out.

I did, when I wired up the coming home feature.. but I never got a switch to try it out.. I lost on ebay.. I think it works though becuase if I turn the headlights off and stop on the parking lights selection, the headlights stay on for about 5 seconds..

I just went out with the VAG COM and found out that the part number on my module end with an ( E ) I do have factory HID's and the have the height adjustment on them when going down hills and up hills.
could I simply add to this using OEM parts to have the coming home feature with all the parking lights coming on with unlocking ? I really didnt want to go the relay route and only have the fogs come on. I would rather have the lights all the way around light up.

im sure you'll need the sensors. the switch works if you leave it on auto, the headlights will turn on when you start the car and vice versa. but this is not truely auto headlights where its light sensitive.
