i just tackled the cam follower and thrust sensor this past weekend. it isn't bad. the dealer told me they wouldn't check the cam follower unless i threw certain codes. (which i did around 38k miles and they replaced the cam, pump and follower) under warranty. They will probably not look at it unless your car meets criteria (whatever that is) needed to check the follower. it sucks i know, but changing the follower isn't bad, and you don't need any special tools, just read through the DIY's and look over your car. you'll need some extension triple square bits and some torx bits and a short stubby 17mm open end wrench.

and to depressurize the car, just let the car sit for 1 hour, and use the schrader valve to depressurize the system. you don't need to go through all the trouble of pulling a fuse to stall the car out and such, (unless you don't have the schrader valve.

I have had everything replaced on my car. HFP, Sensor 5 times, fuel filter... and i still pop codes all the time.
I'm getting fed up with this issue. Cam was fine.

What should I do next, I have been dealing with this problem for 8 months. I'm getting tired of the dealer and their excuses.

yeah after swapping all the parts i though would be attributed to it, I still get this code pop up from time to time. Can't think of what else it could be. All i care is that it doesn't pop up around the time i need to get inspected. and have it stay off after i clear the CEL, so that readiness is set....

I finally had mine written out by my tuner.... I have changed everything from LPFP to HPFP to 3 different thrust sensors, to recalibrating it even.... The only thing that has not been changed is the cam! I even checked all the wiring for shorts right up to the ECU.....

Hmm. Maybe something about the P0089 code should to be added to the You Know You Drive a B7 When.... thread that just started in the Chatterbox.

I'll join the group. Just got my first P0089 yesterday. Light came on and I drove to Auto Zone for the code. I made appt with dealer, then few hours later, after sitting for a while the light went out. I'll keep the appt. and report what they say.

I had this for a while. I finally get the car back after a week since the dealership was replacing my cams shaft, pumps, follower (also changed timing belt, water pump..etc) and the CEL popped back up today. I have been trying to fix this problem for almost a year now!!

Mine began popping up right after I had my rods put in and finally had it written out by my tuner!! Props to Vast for that!

I had this code come on and off over the winter time. After it started to get a bit warmer in the spring, the cel went out, scanned the car in july, and the code was gone and readiness was set.

I've gotten this a couple times. I cleared it and swapped out the fuel filter. I doubt it had anything to do with it but I needed to do it anyways. Hasn't come back (knock on wood).

One day after the factory warranty expired, I got mine for the first time last week when my gas tank fell below 1/4 during the warning 'beep' mark. I later filled the tank and it disappeared. Yesterday, when the tank fell below 3/4 it came back on. I ordered the Thrust Sensor (aka Fuel Pressure Sensor) and hopefully that will solve the problem. I bought (not lease) the car new and so far it only has 24,600 miles on the odometer. I maintained it accordingly with AudiCare and don't mod my car, everything is bone-stock, not even tint! There is NO reason for me to fork out $$$ at such early time (besides having 14 payments left) considering the fact that I hardly even driven the thing. Just spent a fortune on New Tires and Alignment. Starting today, I will put aside $250/month in a separate account and serves it as a warranty policy. I will do this for 24 months, if I use it great, it not, even better!

I received the updated 'Thrust Sensor' today and replaced it myself, it took me a good 25 minutes because I didn't have the right tools and it was the very first time I've ever messed under the hood of my car (except for topping off oil). The old sensor was a 'J' model whereas the new one I put in was the updated 'K' version. The code had went off by itself for a few days before I swapped the part, but I immediately cleared the stored code right after the new sensor was put in. I then took it around the block in the afternoon and again for a longer drive in the evening, so far no code.

I'm not sure if it was my imagination but the car does feel 'tighter' in acceleration, the responses was much quicker when I hit the gas (in a standstill and on the freeway), in other words, less lagging and it felt like new again! Well, we'll see how it goes.

So I finally got ride of one CEL (for slight coolant leak), that I had for almost a year and almost immediately as if on cue, I got the P0089. My experience is that it will come on and by the time I crank my car up 4 or so times it will have gone away. It seems that the problem is not a recurring error, but sporadic.

My car is REVO tuned, but the REVO tune had been on the car for a year or more before teh P0089. I replaced the cam follower within 15,000 miles before the code. I replaced the fuel filter within 5000 miles before the code.

Who has ever successfully gotten the code to go away by replacing something? If you have, what did you replace?

Bringing this thread back. Quick rundown.

    - had cam/cam follower/hpfp/thrust sensor replaced
-went to stage 2+ running hofpupgrade's pump

Now I'm getting a P0088 and P2293 code. Getting this loud metallic rubbing noise when I'm on the accelerator pedal. Oil levels good. Car runs ok so far. Haven't driven it much yet but I will update after I put some miles on her. I don't mind the cel as it seems it's a common issue but the noise is pretty loud. Anyone have this issue when going to an upgraded hpfp?

Sorry to sound like a news since ive been on the boards a while but all the threads seem to hit a dead end as far as the noise is concerned.

Yes the noise "metallic chirp" has not been solved yet, prob some function or
Friction or extra strain caused by the upgraded hpfp. As that's pretty much the only common denominator...

I figured as much. I'm not getting any power above 3000 rpm. Only thing I can think of is either a boost leak or the timing is off.

Please forward pdf. This is the second time. 1st dealer changed Fuel Unit in tank low psi sensor in June 2011 ($780.00) Labor was $430.00 of that. They state they don't recognize the p0089 code or the 7E8 & 7Ec codes. They use a diffirent fault code reader. Now car is stallining again and wont start. Ran code with a MAC code reader and getting same code. Last time they said it wasnt the Cam follower.

    Please help

Second time with code p0089. First time the dealer replaced low psi sensor and CN fuel unit. Worked for 5 months and here we go again. The problem I have is they don't accept or recognize the p0089 fault code. The dealer insists there codes are different becuase they use Audi fualt code software. Can anyone provide additional information. I hate to say it but I don't trust my dealer. I've got 80,000 miles on the car and I had 78,000 when they did the work.

    Thanks for your help.

The P0089 code is very elusive in that you will end up replacing a bunch of parts to find which one it is exactly.......

Came back last night. :( So it went 3 months from the last time it was off. Started the car to come home from work and Pop! It's on. Car seems to be running fine. Try the trust sensor next I guess.

Mine has come back on and off consistently since the temps have dropped down. once i gets down into the 40's. it comes on, but once back into the spring, and it's warmer...then no issues. the car runs strong and performance has not changed.

^^You should take it in since there's a warranty extended and it is mostly related to the (G410) Thrust Sensor or Fuel Rail.

So who has fixed this issue and it not been the thrust sensor (G410)?

It seems as though the P0089 either goes away if one replaces the sensor or it never goes away.

Has anyone who replaced the sensor and successfully eliminated the P0089 filed a reimbursement request and successfully been reimbursed?

I got the light back in Oct. 2011 and replaced the Thrust Sensor myself, hasn't seen the light since. Speaking of which I better fill out that reimbursement form.

I've replaced the thrust sensor and I'm still getting it. I got a scanner for Christmas so I've just been clearing the code and forgetting about it...
