    Opinions on the 2005/2006 A6 4.2L?

I currently have a 2001 M3 and while i LOVE the car, it's not really the best for everyday driving being a wine rep. I want something with some good power, sporty handling and decent reliability. I had a 2000 Audi TT and really loved that little car! What are your opinions on the newer A6's? I would prefer a 4.2 but if the 6 is a better buy I wouldnt be against it.

Any help you guys could give would be great!

If you go C6, go 4.2.

It has the newer 4.2 that is chain driven and all. The C6 is supposed to be pretty reliable. Only thing I have read is make sure you get the MMI updated, cause I guess the older versions had bugs.

I have a 2005 4.2, which I have owned for about 4 years. It is a great driving car, with lots of power. The big thing to look out for is the MMI software version. The early versions had several computer bugs. To give you an idea on the number of bugs my car originally came with software version 7.5 and it is now on version 44.1.

Are the updates covered for life? Do you have to go to the dealer for them, or does Audi just send you a disc?

The MMI updates are not covered if you only ask for the update. You need to know what to complain about in order to get Audi to fix the problem by providing the MMI update. As a result, if you want it for free you need to make the right complaint during the warranty period. However, if you are buying the car CPO from the dealer I would inquire about the MMI version and under those circumstances they will probably do it for free. If you decide to buy the car, and need the TSBs in order to know what to complain about, drop me a PM with your e-mail and I will send you the TSBs.

I am aware of a few forum members who have purchased the discs and then did the upgrade themselves. Of course some of those members also crashed the MMI system.

I was just curious about the procedure to get it updated. It seems like something the dealer would/should do for free. I know I have seen the different updates available on bittorrent sites when I get the OEM nave disc updates.

    Thanks for the info.

The Nav discs and the MMI discs are two completely different animals. The Nav disc upgrade is easy and can be done by anyone, including me. However, the MMI update you should have a VAGCOM at the ready and a little bit of luck.
