I wouldn't take that chance, just use a wet rag to get the heavy dirt and then a dry rag to clean the rest.

I have, just make sure you cover up the intake if it's an open element. I usually make sure the car is hot so the water dries quicker.

I've done it many times, never had a problem......So i think

I wouldnt chance it. we get so many cars here in the shop where the dealer sprays the engine bay or someone does it themselves and they mess something up. use a rag and do it by hand like mentioned before

    Re: Hose Off Engine/ Wash?

Heres what you do... I do/did it all the time...

    1) Cover up the intake (open element)
    2) Use the orange degreaser and spray all over the engine bay, scrub all the real dirty areas...
    3) Then make sure your hose is set to "mist" and just slowly rinse all the degreaser/dirt off.. be sure not to spray water directly into any electrical connections and such..
    4) Repeat steps 1 and 2 as many times as it takes to get the engine clean..
    5) I then start the engine up and let the heat it produce dry most of the water out.
    6) I then get Meguires engine detailer and shine up all the plastics.

Everyone may have there own way of doing this... I do it my way all the time and never had any problems what so ever... just take your time and dont go crazy with the water and you'll be fine....

Disclaimer ---- I have to throw this in... do this at your own risk.... your car may have an uninsulated/unprotected electrical connection/wire and shorts circuits/electrical problems could possible occur...

    Re: Hose Off Engine/ Wash?

    ive been always told to

    - Cover intake, battery, and tape up some wires so they are not getting direct contact with water and degreaser
    - Use the Degrease product
    - Spray down engine with water some what
    - Start Engine
    - Continue to rinse off the engine and listen for sputters ( if you here any , stop using so much water)
    - Dry Off
    - Remove all cover up

    Re: Hose Off Engine/ Wash?

I've worked at a detailing shop for some years in the past.. We always covered up the mentioned items listed above. Start the car, rinse/mist motor and surroundings, spray degreaser and scrub the stubborn areas, rinse and dry with compressor hose. I always had the engine running.. As I said this is what I did but any car could have different reactions so do it at your own risk!

    Re: Hose Off Engine/ Wash?

i was told by the audi tech that i bought my car from to always wash it out when the motor was running and take it for a spin after washing to get any standing water out that could be sitting in there. i use a pressure washer set on low and i have never used chemicals unless i was just spot wiping but i dont think it would be a problem. i make sure to do this about every 3k miles and i have had no problems and it keeps everything clean.
