    Engine running a little cool...

My engine seems to be running a little cool. 1/2 tick off. Is this a problem? Tends to get cooler on the highway.

Re: Engine running a little cool...

Well what I am really looking to know is if its a bad thing. It is always 1/2 tick off. Would the thermostat affect oil temp too? Cause oil is running around 240-245 when driving hard and 235 under normal driving/ fully warmed.

Re: Engine running a little cool...

Since I got downpipes and intercoolers I run colder especially in the winter. I do not make it to the half way point. I get something between 1/4 and 1/2. However, if I drive it harder I can get it back to 1/2. Oil temps do go up but not that high either. Since I haven't driven it a lot this winter I can't tell you if the oil temps will go higher if I drive it harder.

I had my oil cooler repaired back in 2006. They flushed the whole system but that was before downpipes and intercoolers.

Re: Engine running a little cool...

I'd look at temp senders 1st, I did recently change the thermostat on mine though and it did make both oil and water temps run better, PITA of a job though, whole front end and all belts off job, not a quick fix!

I'd have it done when I get my timing belt and water pump done.

I second that, I thought I was running cool until I changed the sensor, now I get an accurate reading.

Im just not going to worry about it. As long as the oil isnt above 250 I think it should be fine.

its normal same for me too. If your just cruising on the highway for about 10mins or more the intake temp will drop since your not putting that much of a load on the engine and are almost ALWAYS in Vac. same thing for oil. If you push it and are stop and go more then it should be half way and oil should be up to about 200 or so.

Ok that sounds about right then. In stop and go I hit about 175-200 in oil and a hair under 1/2 on coolant. On hwy doing about 65mph my temps drop down alot (fluctuating between 28mpg and 30mpg).
