    interior noise...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Inside of my 2000 A6 is very noisy.
Lots of wind noise and maybe tire noise also.
It's horrible with the roof racks on.
It is because my car's old...?
My buddy has 2001 S4, and it's dead quiet compare to mine.
Is it prob with seals on doors getting old, or liners and pads supposed to soak up noise getting old? No seals are cracking or ripped.
I read some articles about sound proofing materials.
    Will they really help?
I have no idea where the sounds are coming in from.
I feel like it got worse after I got coilovers with stiffer damping.
Has anyone ever had issue I'm having right now?

    Re: interior noise...

Roof rack? That would make noise, check your sun roof seal also.

It's not the seals...they are fine...
I'm going to try sound proofing materials...fatmat or B-quiet...
    I'll see how they work...

^^^ Before you add sound proofing material, check to see if all of your windows close tight and that nothing is obstructing them.

    Re: interior noise...

What tires are you running? Many snows can be real noisy. I have I-pikes on the Avant and they are noticeable, but not too noisy. Way quieter then Blizzacks I have run in the past. My rocket box also is noticeable, but once again it is not bad. Racks, tires, seals pretty much cover the culprits. My rado is the only car I have had where the rack lessened the noise of my leaky moonroof seal.

currently, i'm running yokohama allseason on 16's for the winter which sucks on snow...
had same issue with summer tires on 18's...
And without roofrack, it's still pretty bad...

    Re: interior noise...

I'm going back to summers as soon as snow stops...they are some what little better, but not much different.
I'm gonna try fatmat and see how it works.
My car will be in shop for clutch, control arms, and brakes...hope that gives enough time to take all the seats and carpet out and put the sound deadening materials here and there.
    Has anyone done this???
How do you take the panel off the roof???

    btw, good looking Allroad!
