I bought a 01.5 S4 a couple weeks ago. After 6 frustrating months of searching, I finally have the real deal B5 that I have so long desired. I’ve been driving/tuning a 99 AEB Passat for the past 6 years, and now I’m on to bigger and better things. May the real Modding and tuning begin. Amen…
So far I love this car. Aside from the forge diverter valves that I installed yesterday, the car is completely stock. There will be mods to come, however I like to start with a clean slate. I wouldn’t have bought an S4 any other way. For me, buying a one already moded would take away all the fun.
The car has a few minor issues (as expected-156k on the clock) but overall, the car is very clean & solid for its age and mileage. I am 99.9% sure that the clutch has been replaced in the very recent past. It feels brand new. I paid 6k for the car. I will be addressing the other issues on a separate post, I’m stumped with one them…
The first day I got it on the road, I jerry rigged a temporary Vac/boost gauge to see if the turbos are healthy. I’m pretty certain that the turbos are original. Everything looks good so far, 20”hg at warm idle, and I’m seeing 8-9psi on a third gear pull. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure that’s normal on a stock application. Also, the car still had the original shitty 710A diverters, which may have been bleeding off a bit of boost. I have not re-checked the boost pressure since installing the new diverters, but I would not be surprised if I’m seeing around 10psi now. The car certainly seems to pull a bit harder.
Here are a few pics of the car. I will try to post some better ones tomorrow, weather permitting. We’ve been getting some pretty shitty weather here in upstate NY and I haven’t been able to keep the car clean for 5 minutes to take some better pictures of her. This car is a blast to drive in the snow.
