Odd fuel pump noise only when realy cold!

So since this winter when i first start the car the fuel pump makes some pretty weird noises only if its like 18 degrees or colder! The first time it did this i ended up getting a ride to work from my buddy because i thought the fuel pump was going to die! But after work when the temps were in the mid to high 20's it did not do this? It also happed again this morning when it was 16 degrees out .Anybody have any thoughts on this weird problem? im probably changing the filter soon anyway but i hope my pump isnt bad!

How many miles are on your car? When was the last time you replaced the fuel filter?

I bought the car with 61,000 miles 2 and a half years ago! I now have about 97,000 miles. They said all maintenance stuff was done but the dealer was also super terrible and extremely shady!!! So im guessing its the original. Ill probably replace it this weekend! No biggie but why does it do this when its real cold? and not all when its above 20 degrees

I have the same noise. Only when it's really cold like 10 degrees in the a.m. It goes away after it warms up and I shut my car off then turn it back on at a light. It's kinda hard ti pin point the noise where it's coming from though. My guess was fuel pump straining from the cold temps. The first time I heard it I pulled into my shop to warm up. It went away, It still comes from time to time though on really cold mornings. Someone said something about replacing the fuel filter. I'm going to try that this weekend when I change the oil to see if that stops it. Has there been any other solutions for this problem since the last post about it?

Mine does the same. The sound I hear is the gas passing through the lines in a semi-high pitched tone. I changed my filter with an OEM one last earlier this year, so I know for sure it's not my filter. The sound is either "normal" or our fuel pumps get worked out in the cold.

My 2004 1.8 started making a high pitched noise as well when then temp was in the low teens as well that appears to be coming from the fuel pump. I guess I won't panic just yet the temps are supposed to recover to the 30's in a couple of days. I know my fuel filter should be replaced anyways the car has 170000 mi on it sure hope its not the fuel pump.

Do the filter asap I heard the squeeling while the car would warm up for about three months and never got around to changing the filter so the added stress on the pump caused it to go.
