    Couple C5 Mirror ?s

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've got a little hole on the housing of my driver's side mirror. It's been there since I bought the car and it's always bothering me. I keep tossing around ideas. I'm thinking about just replacing the housing with these. The OEM brushed aluminum ones are a little too much for me to justify. And, I'm not a fan of the chrome in.pro ones...at least not on my silver car.

How do you think these would look?
Is there anything to worry about with aftermarket housings when it comes to folding in and heated mirrors?

From what I've found, replacing the housing isn't too difficult a task. I'd just hate to spend the money and find out that they won't work/look right.

I think I might also spring for the "blind spot" mirrors while I'm at it.

    Thoughts?

Here's a shot of my car where you can see the little hole in the mirror housing. Sorry, best picture of it I can find at the moment. But, trust me, it's big and annoying!

Those are cool but just so you know, they are painted an aluminum color and not actually aluminum. I ask that seller a few months ago, since my car is silver I won't even bother.

    Re: Couple C5 Mirror ?s

Yeah, I understand they aren't aluminum. Like I said, I can't justify the "real deal". But, why didn't you bother with them? Because they're cheap or you don't like the look on our silver cars?

    Thanks for responding!

^^^ Well if I had a dark color car like black, blue etc. the contrast would look cool but on a silver car it would just look like another shade of silver. Just my .02

Well one major reason why I won't do those mirrors is because nothing is wrong with the mirrors I have now so it would be pointless. If you need to change your mirrors I say do it. +1 on the chrome, ewwww.

    Re: Couple C5 Mirror ?s

I hear you man. I don't need new mirrors. I just HATE looking at the stupid f'ing hole in the housing. Since it's on the driver's side I see it EVERYDAY when I get into my car....

Anybody have a shot of a car here with brushed caps on a silver car?

As of last night me and you are in the same boat. I just smacked my mirror on a mail box and left a hole in my passenger side mirror.

So any pics would be nice of some covers would be nice

well since the car has chrome all over it, get chrome, unless you want everything a different shade of silver :( i did IN.PRO chrome mirrors for like $130 and they fit perfect.

im just pointing out that nothing else is brushed on you're car.
and when i put the chrome ones on, it made the car look 100x better.

    Re: Couple C5 Mirror ?s

Frank, thanks for your input. As I mentioned in my OP, I am not a fan of chrome on my silver car. I think it contrasts much better with darker paint (read:yours). I was thinking that the brushed aluminum might look decent with my hyper-silver wheels. But, I hear what you're saying about all the different shades of silver. And, I've been unable to find anyone who's done it to theirs.

So, what I decided to do was just order the OEM housing from parts.com. It was $43+shipping. I can live with that. I've got a great paint guy who's already done my OEM rear lip spoiler and repainted my bumper after I was tagged in a hit-n-run a few months ago. He does great work at a reasonable price. Hope that helps you djez016.

blacking out the trim on a light colored car looks good, but not so much on dark color...so on you're silver it should look good. you should think about doing the doorblades black like the S6.

I have the OEM brushed aluminum RS6 mirrors on my silver 4.2. Hard to see in pics, but they look great in person!

Threadjack: Yes, the flat door blades and lower side skirts are OEM RS6 parts that I bought from a local parts dealer. It is NOT a cheap mod (probably $1500 in parts alone plus paint) but it does have a nice visual impact on the car. BTW - only works with the 4.2 or S6, will not fit the narrow body 2.7T, 2.8 or 3.0

I think the flat door blades retail for about $140 (front each) and $110 (rear each), so about $500 retail for the set of four. Part numbers are:

    Re: Couple C5 Mirror ?s

BostonDriver, DAMN you! I have admired your car for a looong time. I LOVE what you've done to it. I should have remembered to look you up! I spent a few days searching "c5 speigel" on the German eBay based on what you've posted in the past. How could I remember that but not the person who led me down that road?

I did the OEM RS6 lip spoiler because of you. I justified that because I wanted mine bolted to the car. But, I can't justify the money for real mirrors like yours. They do look good on your car. But, I guess I'm going to stay with my latest plan OEM housings w/paint match.

    Thanks again tho everyone!
