Dont put one on. Nothing will increase performance. They wouldn't have designed that airbox and put it in all of the cars if it wasn't efficient.

It might change the sound out if you get a cone filter, but if you do you HAVE to get a heatshield of some sort. Or else you are just heating up that air going into your intake.

Just make one.....buy a mandrel bent u-pipe on ebay, a couple silicone couplers, a cone filter, and somethin to make a heatshield....that'd cost significantly less that any other aftermarket kit

heres one i made way back when:

still got that cone too....pm me if u want it

    Re: audi 1.8t intake ??'s

You won't gain any increase in power. But if it is only sound you are looking for, then go for it (note: even though comanies claim gains, you won't see any. the stock airbox was built rather effeciently to handle up to a GTRS of proper flow, but many get aftermarket filters with thier BT setups). There is always the swiss cheese mod to the stock air box, and the greater thing is it if free .

Secondary Air Injection filter. The tube would have used the stock airbox for the filter.

Does the 99.5 have that hose, or was it only pre face lift? I want to do this also but the DIY isn't dumb down enough for me.

    Re: audi 1.8t intake ??'s

I run a K&N cone filter & a Blinktek heat shield BlinkTekDesign.com. I just mounted it on the MAF.
It sounds great…with a K04-015. I have a VR6 MAF due to the larger injectors but I ran the same setup with a smaller filter and stock MAF on the K03.

IMHO there are very little gains from any type of aftermarket filter. If anything I would just switch out your filter for a K&N or ITG panel and KEEP IT CLEAN.

    Re: audi 1.8t intake ??'s

I read threads of people messing up thier MAFs with those aftermarket filters with the oils (ie K&N). What happens is the oils from the filters end up building up on the MAF sensor element and causing it go go bad. Just a heads up. Stick with the stock.

    Re: audi 1.8t intake ??'s

Changing the intake is pointless unless it is for a look. I ran an open filter, but that is only because my stock airbox was useless to me seeing that it broke, so I had bought a 5$ cone filter stuck it on the MAF and called it a day. Only 2000 and newer cars have the SAI system fyi.

IMO, unless your going to buy the carbonio intake, leave your stock airbox alone. Read this link. It's about the B7, but it's the same principal.
