Put a filter on it or a sock. Its just the SAI inlet hose.

Go to pep boys, in the ricer aisle they have the filter and hose clamp to fit for like 10 bucks. ;)

Re: Quick intake question, what do you guys do with the secondary air injection tube

When people go BT or BAT, what do they do with the Secondary Air Injection? Do people just delete it altogether or put a filter on it as suggested by Mike? I read a thread yesterday of totally removing it, and there is no issues when it comes to passing emmisions. Or either way is good? Just want this for good info to remember, for future referances. Thanks!

PS Just wondering if placing a filter or sock over it will still permit one to pass emmisions?

well without sai you'll fail inspection, atleast in NJ... you will get a CEL for it if you remove the sai system unless the tuner takes it out and re-codes the ecu to pass on the readiness tests. But either way, I ripped all that shit out, pcv/sai/evap. well most of it only kept essential stuff

Ditto. That's how mine is set up now. I relocated the SAI to the other side of the car for the intercooler and shoved the filter on the end of the opening.

Well most people that go BAT tend to end up going AEB head which doesn't have an option for SAI, so everything just gets pulled out. I pulled mine out back in 2001.

So, what would end up happening when one needs to get thier car inspected? Seeing that the ECU still has the SAI written in the file. Would one at that point request the tuner to grant a file with that witten out? And if that is the case, would it still have a readiness not cleared? Thanks!

I had my SAI delete from the file....I'm 01.5, so I have the port on the back of the head. But Integrated Engineering makes a block-off plate. No issues yet

Not really true....theres a writeup somewhere on AW. you can run a resistor on the wire to the SAI pump. IIRC, i believe its been effective

its effective for one of the 2 CEL you will get. I don't think you can COMPLETELY solve it with resistors just 1/2, unless i'm wrong.. And you will still fail readiness

Yea.....you would, if you just plugged the resistor in.....I had to plug a couple hoses and route two sensors under the intake manifold to themselves (can't remember the names of each sensor, but they are part of the PCV system). And after a while, you would still pass readiness.

However, if u plan on doing this urself, def do more research, since my current knowledge about this isn't as fresh as it was when I was doing this mod early this year. So I'm prob leaving some things out......but I do believe it is do-able without getting a re-flash

thats interesting, never heard of it fully working without the tuner going into the ecu. Either way IMO if your gunna go as far as taking out the SAI might as well rip out everything you can from pcv and evap and just leave it to the tuner, shouldn't cost you anything and take him a couple min.
