Pictures of my 149.9db system! and opinion pic. LOTS OF PICS

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Here are some pictures of my system that recently hit 149.9 decibels in a pre-fab box! I will be building a custom dual ported bod for it soon. Well here they are! The speakers mounted in the rear dash are two memphis 6x9's. I had to custom fab them by using a nibbler to cut holes in the thick rear dash frame. It took about a day to do. If you would like this and are in the houston area, send me a private message. I wired/installed everything myself. Check my sig for my setup.
My sig is also suppost to say 1000.1, i hit the wrong key. I have the Kicker CVX's wired down to 1 ohm, and at 1 ohm the amp pushes 1000 watts RMS!!! The CVX's are the same as the L7's just circle. 750 watts RMS for each sub.

Now here are some pics that I need an opinion on. It took me about 5 minutes to wire with a switch and everything!
Looks pretty cool in day light too.
What do you think, go or no go?

They are HID's, pic just makes them look yellow.

    Tell me what you think!

The grille looks like its strait off the border. Door lights are sick. The subs can't sound clean. Nobody thinks ratteling plastic is ballin.

I've fixed almost all the rattles in my car, took about a day and a half. I used different things ranging from patches of Dynamat to weather stripping to foam. I think the only rattle left is coming from the rear bumper, and it is not very loud.

Drilled right into the seat. It's pretty thick durable wood on the back of the seat, and as long as you dont have 1 foot long screws, you will be fine.
To secure the box I would get some L brackets from your hardware store and bold it to the side of your trunk.
The box with the subs is 100+ lbs. so I don't need to have it bolted, it's not moving anywhere. And I have about a 1" gap inbetween the side wall of the trunk and my box.

that's what I was thinking but I didn't want to screw into the box cause it would leak air or w.e since it's a secure box or whatever its called haha

I have never been into loud sound systems. They are pointless and I think they sound like shit when people drive by me and all I hear is rumbling. Your system looks like you put a lot of time and money into it though and if that's what you like then .

As long as you keep the screws in there it wont let air out, and if you do decide to take the box out for some reason, you can fill the holes with epoxy and it will be good as new. I wouldnt do that for high powered systems though.

I think it's more for the younger crowd, not implying that you might be old. I will be bringing her to sound competitions too. It's just a hobby that once you get started, you can't stop. I've had this car for 6 months now and have had over 4 different systems in it.

I'm not sure what it was but I drove to the local audio shop (nice shop)
and had it tested for $5. Device was placed at dash and on the computer the highest measurement it took was 149.9 db's. They said it was impressive especially for it being in a pre-fab box.

Re: Pictures of my 149.9db system! and opinion pic. LOTS OF PICS

I'd be interested to see how it would compare so the other cars I've been in that hit the ~150 mark. NTM I'd question their equipment. Not that it can't be done, but it's hard to do on 2 12's.

The journey from 150 to 160 is hard, good luck. 160db makes it hard to breathe.

Nice man. I'm into car audio as well(setup is in my sig). I was actually trying to find a place to get mine measured as well and I have no idea why I didn't think of going to an audio shop... As far as prefabbed boxes go, I have a sealed one I got from bestbuy(some crazy sale for only $30 for dual 12" sealed) and it is holding up suprisingly well.

I have heard though to stay away from 6x9's. I forget where I had read this but it had something to do about the shape of the speaker and it distorting easier. If they dont have much bass going to them then I guess theres no need to worry about that but just something to think about in the future, because if there is one thing I have realized: It's never loud enough. I'm always trying to find a way to make it louder without compromising clarity.

    Then why type it?

However, props for learning to do things yourself. I started with car audio when i was 13 and have been tinkering with it for over 18 years now. We all started somewhere and I wish you the best on your progression of the hobby.

btw: big subs are for suckahs.
