    timing belt due every 60k???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    I have a 99 A6 2.8L and it's almost at 110k miles.
The dealer tells me that the timing belt should be replaced for this model every 60k but i've heard a lot of ppl saying it usually gets replaced at 80k and can go up to 100k. Which is true??
Also does the serpentine belt wear out a lot faster than the timing belt? or is it always good until whenever the timing belt needs to be replaced?

Re: timing belt due every 60k???

First change should be around 75k
after that 60 is a good interval and that's what i am going by.

you would probably be ok @ 75k intervals, but I'd rather not play Russian roulette with my motor

I'm coming up on 200k miles, and will probably get my 3rd TB job early next year

Re: timing belt due every 60k???

Thanks for the speedy reply guys!!!
What about the serpentine belt?? does it get replaced more frequently than the timing belt?
The reason why i'm asking is, the mechanic told me the serpentine belt should be replaced pretty soon.. does this mean that the timing belt should be replaced as well? or can i just replace the serpentine belt?
Previous owner told me he replaced the timing belt around 65k but i really have no way of verifying this...

the serp belt iirc requires a good amount of labor, enough that you might as well do the full tb job. and as far as I know it shouldn't wear faster than the tb, unless something is wrong

    x2

My serpentine belt went and it actually caused my timing belt to jump. Definitely better off getting the serp belt iirc and TB done at the same time.

For all the Seattle (Washington) guys, my buddy has a ton of experience as a mechanic working on Audi's (he does all my work for me). If anybody is interested, PM me and we can workout a really smokin price for whatever you need done.

Re: timing belt due every 60k???

serpantine belt is easy to change maybe 15-20 min of work. timing belt almost never fails. Most of the time its the idle rollers that cause all the problems. Also good idea to replace waterpump and termostat whilee you doing the t-belt. i would do t-belt every 75-80k miles.

Re: timing belt due every 60k???

Just ordered my new TB from ECS

Cheap insurance for a running car though

It's so much easier to suggest solutions when you don't know too much about the problem.

I would recommend 70-75k miles but some recommend 60 k intervals for modded 2.7Ts.Did mine at 70k
