    PCV and EVAP delete

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
im working on installing a catch can, and i figured while i was in there i would relocate stuff and hide it..

i want to remove the evap system, or more importantly remove the canister for it. what do i have to do to get rid of this ?
do i need a resistor to plug in there, should i leave something vented, or just cap it all off ?

    Re: PCV and EVAP delete

It will cause a check engine light. Leaving it vented will allow gas vapors from the tank to escape having a remote possiblity or a fire or explosion (unlikely though). Capping it off wouldbe the best bet but would cause pressure to build in the tank as the gas is sturred up while driving with a remote possibility of the pressure erupting somewhere (highly unlikely though)

I have been running it open in the engine bay for the last 3 years, but have plans to remove all of it at some point.

The evap pressure sensor looks for certain pressures while performing it's test so adding a diode or resistor won't work, you would need to trick the vapor pressure sensor into reading multiple values while it performs it's self readiness check to not have a check engine light on. The only way without a special program to delete the evap without a check engine light on is to remove the light.

I have been running it open in the engine bay for the last 3 years, but have plans to remove all of it at some point.

I believe that, the remote possibility of fire is from the vapors coming from the gas tank but as long as the vsv's are closed no gas vapor will escape. Removing the canister and line to the gas tank will allow those vapors to escape though (with a remote possibility of fire. Remove the lines and vsv's and connect the line from the gas tank directly to the canister will allow the vapor to be absorbed by the charcoal and not emmit combustable fumes but will release pressure but it will still cause a check engine light.

No, no affects on engine performance at all.

    Re: PCV and EVAP delete

Well I plan on removing all if it but the stock gas tank since I am running stand alone and removing weight is always a good thing. My cluster already looks like a xmas tree.

This is the Diy I followed. Definitely a worthwhile mod, less worry about boost leaks and a much cleaner engine bay in the end.

Though as i learned, do not remove pcv unless you have a catch can setup. All it took is 1 mile for oil to get thrown into the exhaust and a lot of smoke and panic thinking I blew my turbo, you want to avoid that haha.

    Re: PCV and EVAP delete

The issue with the B6 write-up is that it is useful but is a different setup than the engines in the b5. If you don't understand the system you shouldn't start pulling stuff off. I am hoping to remove the system soon but I still need to find more info on the ATW system.
