    Re: weird cluster lighting problem

Have you found any kind of trend as to when they get dim/bright? For example do they get bright when you're on the gas and dim when you're idling? Does it switch when you go over any bumps?

My guess would be to check the connections at the fuse box. A loose connection could potentially cause that.

I thought only B5s had problems with instrument clusters going out. Are B6s now developing that problem?

    Re: weird cluster lighting problem

does this issue affect all the interior lights, i.e. cluster, stereo, window switches, etc? and if it does, how are the interior lights affected when you manually adjust them? is the range of light, from being really bright to being really dimmed w/i the same range as what you can set from the manual settings? you may have a faulty connection there...

There is an ambient light level sensor that varies the brightness of the dash lights according to the amount of ambient light, so if there is some bright light shining on the sensor, then due to movement of the car the bright light varies, that will cause the dash lights levels to go up and down. Are you driving when you notice the dash lights vary, or stopped, not moving?

yes i noticed this when i was driving, that would make perfect sense, just didnt realize it made that much of a change in light.
