    Conical or ball seat lugs?

ok i am putting the 17" sport wheels on for winter.. im gonna do 15mm spacers in the back and 10mm in the front... what type of lugs do i need to fit? i am also going to be using the 10mm spacers on the rear after winter with my iforged wheels... from what i hear you shouldn't be using the same bolts for both wheels? but i have polished bolts that i bought and i have used them in both my iforged wheels and my oem wheels but they seem to have less threads go in when i an using them on my iforged.. is there a need to use a certain type of bolt for each one or will i be able to use whatever type safely on either? thanks

You'll need ball seat for stock wheels and most aftermarket wheels use a cone seat. Just make sure you order the correct length bolts for your spacers.

Re: Conical or ball seat lugs?

Ball seat. Lugs are 14 x 1.5. As far as length goes the stock lugs are 28mm long. You wanna add on the length of the spacer to get the length that you would need. You always want minimum of 4 threads going in when you tighten them. So chances are that adding the 10mm in the rear after would make it so that you need new lugs. I just went through this process this week as I did a B5 S4 brake upgrade and needed spacers to fit them behind my USP wheels. Typically aftermarket wheels are conical seat. If you use ball seat lugs on conical seat wheels you will see that the lug does not make contact on the whole portion that it is supposed to. I made this mistake and was running ball seat lugs when I should have been running conical seat. I ran into no complications but when I found out I changed them for peace of mind. I'm assuming that if they care enough to carry both lugs that it is probably a good idea to buy the correct lugs. Also make sure to tighten your wheels in the air when you do so. This will help reduce vibrations caused from spacers.

Re: Conical or ball seat lugs?

Should that be the other way around? Most people that get the stud kits for stock wheels order the conical, while most that have after market get the ball seat. My OZ SL's use ball seat.

OP, just test the lug bolts you have now to see they sit in the wheels correctly.

Conical on the left and ball seat on the right.

Nope. Stock wheels use ball seat as well as some aftermarket wheels. Most aftermarket wheels use conical seat bolts. If people are ordering conical stud kits for stock wheels, they're ordering the wrong kits.

Check out the ball seat section on ECS.

Glad I came across this and apologize to thread jack but quickly should I be using OEM lug nuts on my VMR 708s? I was using the latter on my Axis MODS.

Something is not right then if they don't fit behind your wheels. I have the Stock 17's and just did the upgrade yesterday. Unless your mistaken, or I am missing some details there is no need for spacers.
