Would it be worth it to use Autozone heat wrap to cover a test pipe with? I think it can only help, what does everyone esle think?

    Thanks a lot!

    Re: Too hot!!

It is great at keeping the EGTs down as well as keeping excess heat away from the turbo

    Re: Too hot!!

was going to wrap my downpipe and the hot side of the turbo but heard that the wrap can hold in moisture and cause the exhaust to rust so i said screw it.

I'de say try it, wrap it up as tight as possible, and tell how how it is...(that's what she said, right?)

    Re: Too hot!!

yeah wrap as tight as you possibly can without destroying it, somebody should jump in and say what you can use on it to harden it. You put something on it after its wrapped and it turns it into a cast basically

    Re: Too hot!!

DONT!!!! do it. i tried autozones already and it melted right off. You need something much thicker.
and yes it was fully dried and hardened.

    Re: Too hot!!

Thanks guys. No autozone it is!

Let's try and find some other good brands. I've never heard this talked about and it seems pretty textbook with our set ups (test pipe directly next to intake).

    Re: Too hot!!

Jegs or Summit racing both have heat wraps that work great. I've purchased a heat wrap from Jegs for a previous car (for a test pipe, incidentally) and was very happy w/ it's performance ...

its a cloth, so it will hold moisture (given that you drive in the rain), but the act of driving in itself will dry out the fabric. so unless you drive in the rain, then stop for a couple days, you shouldn't have any rust issues.

    Re: Too hot!!

Has anyone here wrapped their test pipe before? How come I haven't heard of people doing this before, it seems like a good solution?

    Re: Too hot!!

I ordered the following from summitracing.com:

    Exhaust ties:

    http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku

    High-Temp Coating:

    http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

    Exhaust Wrap:

    http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

I haven't installed it yet since I'm waiting till I put my BT in to take the test pipe out.

BTW you'll have much more luck searching for "exhaust wrap" over "heat wrap" is you're searching for it online.

Many, many B5 and B6 owners wrap their's. Quite a few here do as well.
I was gonna wrap my HFC, but was told by the manufacturer not a good idea for the cat since retaining two much heat can destroy the insides, however, for the test pipe being just a pipe it is certainly a good idea and most definitely wouldn't hurt. Ceramic coating is the way to go though.
