Anyone pimping the test pipe with your stock exhaust?
If so, how does it sound?
    Any gains?
Because I'm thinking of getting a test pipe, until I can order the magnaflow exhaust

Are u stock or stageIII or what? I ran my stage III w/ a stock exhaust w/ a TP in for a long time and it felt great, added a little growl. I've put a test pipe on a customers car who was stage I and he too had a stock exhaust. It definitely changes the tone and you will notice it's slight gains. Get one

I would do it... You will gain a little spool for sure and if nothing else your EGTs will g down and the car will cool down much quicker because the cat isn't holding all that heat in... My turbo and Mani used to glow bright red when I was stock now I'm running double the boost and it just gets a little red

You'll get gains. Of course, it'll be more noticable with a complete exhaust set up. However, at the same time, it's like, of course you'll also notice it if you got an intake as well, bored out valves, etc, etc. It just all adds up.

well the sound differences between the 2.5" and the 3" wont be much different, its more of a performance aspect. And don't worry about the "rice", the nice thing about a turbo is that it eliminates the ricey sound, or at least quiets it down a good amount.

Re: Test Pipe with stock exhaust.

In the case of a 3" on a stock turbo it will definitely give less performance than the 2.5, since the K03 on the stock mani doesn't flow that much and it's too little back pressure and may hurt spool. I would go 3" unless bt or higher. I will still be using a 2.5" on my bt setup since 2.5" is good for almost 400hp of flow.

So you would still reccomend a 2.5" TP over a 3" with a Stage 1+ tune and APR TIP?

Can you confirm that the 3" gives less performance than the 2.5" on a K03?

The 3" will give you better top end tho, which is all that really matters to me since thats where my car needs improvement

For someone with a turbo as their avatar, I'd expect you to know a little bit more about the air dynamics involved with them. Backpressure is not a factor, N/A, turbocharged or otherwise. Backpressure is always bad as it creates a negative restriction. Now Velocity, that is where it is at. A smaller pipe will have a higher air speed than a larger one, within reason. Too small and you WILL get backpressure that will hurt your spool time and high-end delivery. Too large and the exhaust system will not help pull the gases out via scavenging which you might notice prior to the tubo spooling up but not too likely. With a turbo car, this isn't much of a factor due to the high speed, the turbine wheel presenting a partial obstruction already and the increased heat which can increase air velocity if kept INSIDE the pipes (heatwrap, etc).

That said, with a K03/K04, you likely wont see an issue with the 2 1/2" or 3" unit. If you consider a GTRS or others in the BT breed; 3" is the definitive answer.

Re: Test Pipe with stock exhaust.

    All done!

Let me start off by saying, what a PITMFA!!!

Ok, don't let that scare you lol.

The bolts came out with little effort, the hard part was trying to get at them..... I used PB Blaster which worked amazing. It freed up the nuts and bolts really well. Just so you know im TIP, i think its easier for the 5spd guys.

As for performance i think i noticed a bit of a gain. I'm also not used to my car yet. I just installed a FMIC last weekend and got my car chipped with apr 1+ on Thursday.

For sound its hardly any louder, maybe a tiny bit in the higher rpm's. There is a little bit of a noticeable rasp (that's the only way i think i can enplane it) under load.

All and all im quite happy For the $100 i spent on the pipe its well worth it.

When I installed mine, many moons ago. I had a 3'' on stock exh. Just a tad louder, nice little rumble at idle, and gained about 500rpms of useful power up top.
