    Rear Fogs and tha Police

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So way back when I was 16 I got pulled over by the cops (with my mom by the way) and I got a speeding ticket. He also pulled me outta the car to complain that my rear tail light was out. I go out and check and not knowing any better, I agree with him. This is driving a 97ish 950 wagon.

A few weeks later my mom asks the mech about it and he tells her its a rear fog, which only lights up on one side.

Well ever since then I've been wary about using my rear fogs because I don't want to attract any extra attention to myself.

Is there anybody out there that has thought about this or has the same issue? I never use the rear fog in my B6.

Re: Rear Fogs and tha Police

Theres a DIY somewhere to wire it up so that both sides light up. I never run with the rear on unless there actually is fog. Its useful when out with friends if were doing a spirited run and I see a cop up ahead. I'll just flash that quickly and they know what it means. I've pulled it out by accident both clicks before and realized when I got home but never had any run ins with the police.

Instead of pulling the light switch all the way out, just pull it one click out instead of 2.

Re: Rear Fogs and tha Police

I see a handful of a4s driving around with the rear fogs on, not knowing they dont have to pull the on-dash knob all the way out for the front foglights.

Kind of annoying. One time, i gestured to the driver to roll down her window and tried to tell her. For the life of her, she could not understand what i was explaining to her. *shrug*

Note to the OP, I've almost forgotten about this since i've bought the LED tails.

I would like to point out that it is called a rear FOG light. There is ZERO need to drive around with that annoying thing on unless you are in a limited-visibility situation (fog, snow storm, very heavy rain, etc.).

Re: Rear Fogs and tha Police

Yes, this has been known to happen. I believe most European cars have rear fog lights. Of course, theirs is on the right side (driver's side). I don't think any American cars are made with them. You can help educate by pulling out your owner's manual and pointing out to them the right side is really supposed to be out... OR not use the rear fog lights unless there's really a fog.

I'm opposed to wiring up the right side so both are on since the rear fog lights are as bright as brake lights and would cause more confusion. You might even get pulled over AGAIN because your 3rd brake light is off. LOL!

If you pull the headlight switch out when the headlights are on, the first click turns the foglights on and the second click turns the rear fog on too.

Worse than that happened when one idiot was driving in front of me w/o brake lights. Now that was annoying.

See LED tails are copies of ur stock taillights except clear up top and red below with LED's the rear fogs on both sides are retained in the stock locations.

I think BNZ TOY is trying to say that since he bought about these new tail lights he's been mesmerized by the bright LED's and has forgoten he has rear fogs.

I had a cop pull me over in my moms allroad one time...he says your brake light is out and i said no its not and he says how would you know and i say because it would say that i have a light out...then got into a huge argument about it... he does not believe me thats it supposed to be like that and he also says a rear fog is illegal..dumb ass. So i pulled out the manual and he is still saying how its illegal so i just told him to take it up with audi of america and got back in my car and left hahahah

I got pulled over on Duval St in Key West for my rear fog. It was just a shake down, he wasn't going to give me a ticket. He used the you have a tail light out excuse. He said one day i cut him off when he was following somebody in his undercover car and couldn't disengage. Now that he saw me, he wanted to let me know that i was in the Key West PD crosshairs and needed to behave.

I cant belive almost 70% of the people that posted had no clue what it was. LOL. when i would have seen that yellow light come on and saw nothing i would have walked around the car to see what the deal was. lol

But then hey, im glad your all learning and not driving with them on when you dont need to.

But then again i grew up in Europe so im used to this Rear Fog light business!
