Exclamation RS4 Exhaust = No Fit! Go Straight or No Go?? Urgent!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Folks, your opinions and suggestions are needed

I picked up an RS4 exhaust from a friend who swapped his with an aftermarket one. My 1.8T is in the garage now on the lift.. Stock exhaust is removed to put on the RS4 exhaust (with custom modifying the rear bumper openings)

I know am not going to get near the RS4 exhaust tone,, however, the looks of it are sharp and i wanted to get it..

    PROBLEM!

The RS4 mufflers are HUGE such that it interferes' with the Spare tire by 4 inches on each side!! taking the spare out and cutting where the mufflers need to go is a big job,, and i am not considering this as an option.

    Mechanic's possible solutions:

    1. Run straight exhaust (while keeping the stock Cat. but no mufflers) and attaching the RS4 tips. This will be done by running a Y pipe at the begenning of the exhaust, and a Y pipe at each tip in the back.

    2. Weld back the original exhaust, chop the tips off and put RS4 tips (where one of the internal openings of the RS4 tip will be a dummy)

    3. Do nothing. (Weld the original exhaust back)

I am confused now, I really want that RS4 rear tips looks in the back.. however, I am worried that car will sound like a fart-can having Straight back exhaust.

    Suggestions ?

Re: RS4 Exhaust = No Fit! Go Straight or No Go?? Urgent!

that does sound like a plan.. what pisses me off is that I wanted the blenty room for flow such that when I put the K04 turbo and bigger injectors,, i know flow will not be restricted in the exhaust.

Will it be a good idea to run Stock exhaust with High-Cat for the K04 turbo and not have much flow restrictions?

I guess the question is, Does 1.8T Q sound like a fartcan with a Straight back exhaust ??

His suggestion is,, we make it a straight back exhaust now, if its too annoying/lound/noisy/cheap.... we add aftermarket mufflers to it (i.e. Borla)

Sound like a plan guys ?

Re: RS4 Exhaust = No Fit! Go Straight or No Go?? Urgent!

I think I will go with straight back exhaust since the car on the lift now and add mufflers as soon as I put my hands on some (Borla, remus.. )

    Question is:

Shall I run it straight back on RS4 piping (2.5" to two 2.25") or stock 1.8T piping (2.25" or 2" to two 1.75") ?

    Keep the RS4 resonator too?

So basically,, a Y pipe after Downpipe.. connect to RS4 exhaust... RS4 Resonator... straight pipes .... a Tiny Y-connector at each RS4 tip.

I hope the RS4 resonator will eliminate the fartcan noise.. (my fingers are crossed)

Sound like a good plan folks ?

What about some sort of aftermarket mufflers? It will be a bit noisy if you don't run ANY mufflers at the back

Re: RS4 Exhaust = No Fit! Go Straight or No Go?? Urgent!

well you see.. the plan was that RS4 is gonna fit.

Now that the stock exhaust is cut and on the floor.. i got no time to put on any aftermarket mufflers.. however, i will request that, but i dont think it will be possible now

so I will cut the RS4 mufflers out.. put a straight pipe in its place,, then replace it with two aftermarket mufflers.

Trying to look online for a store that sells the mufflers only...

Go with Magnaflow. They are inexpensive, easy to get, and have a lifetime warranty.

Re: RS4 Exhaust = No Fit! Go Straight or No Go?? Urgent!

    Update!

The stock piping will run up until the start of stock resonators.. stock resonators chopped off... RS4 resonators and piping until start of RS4 mufflers.. mufflers chopped off and replaced with Dynomax mufflers (S style) connected to RS4 tips.

I was hopping for higher-end mufflers.. (Remus, Borla, etc) but since time is limited.. am going with what we were able to grab immediately.

I just read some reviews about Dynomax,, they dont seem too great. My fingers are crossed and awaiting to pick up the car in 2 days to try it out and hear how good or bad it sounds!

    will keep you posted.

Never heard the 1.8t straight pipe, but my 2.7t with the straight pipe sounds awesome. It is loud, but the sound is definitely not fart can. People think I have the 8 cylinder all the time.

Take a hammer to it! Can you rotate the mufflers / or \ to make any room?

Wouldn't larger RS4 mufflers make the 1.8T quiet down considerably? Throw some magnaflows on it.

I took the RS4 exhaust root because a friend of mine gave it to me (he didn't want it) so am taking advantage of it.

The shop is putting Dynomax mufflers on... am going later this afternoon to check how the setup is going.

    Hi, guys,
I managed to do it but had to modify both the exhaust and the wheel well.
The wheel to fit the mufflers
and the exhaust pipe to around the fuel tank.
    have a look
