had one of mine go bad, and have been confused to what they are and where they are located. so i decided to take a few pics and try to help some of you guys out in the future.

Part Number: #058 905 291 (thx to old guy, as usual)

    Places to Purchase:
    ECSTuning - http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/...ro&engine=1.8T
    PureMS - http://www.purems.com/products/product.php/II=1566
When I called dealers, they quoted me around $40 each.

    Locations:

    Close-Ups:
this one is broken and will soon be replaced.

i assumed there were only 5 because that's all i could find. but i have been hearing that there are 6. if you know where the 6th one is, feel free to let me know and i'll update the thread. also, please let me know if any of this info is wrong. i'd hate to mislead people because i didn't know something.

Edit: thx to AudiA4Turbo22, i found the 6th one. i took a pic and updated. let me know if there is anything else.

Good post. My front left one looked identical to yours. Got a new one for around 20 bucks from my mechanic.

is there no negative consequence of removing these? i assume you have to get replacement hoses to all the locations?

Nothing in the PCV system is connected to the ECU. Remove all the crank vent shit under the intake manifold as well as its connection to the intake manifold. Run a 1" hose from the crank breather (on top of the oil filter housing) up to the valve cover breather, T it to another 1" line which you can either dump under the car (which I do) or connect it to a catch can, then a line from the catch can to the TIP, your choice. I prefer to have absolutely zero oil crap going into my motor so I just have the 1" stainless hose you see in my pic running down below to tranny to vent any excess pressure or oil residue

Re: In - Line Check Valves

Without triggering a CEL, you can remove pretty everything I have except SAI. EVAP will not trigger a CEL as long as the solenoid is plugged in (the one thats on the back of the intake box from the factory). You can remove the N249 and N112 vac lines as long as you keep the solenoids plugged in (or put resistors in there place)

Re: In - Line Check Valves

I had to replace (#1 in pic at top) one last week. I was about to take off on a road trip so no time to wait for shipping. It ended up costing me $43 at the dealer after tax. ugh.

I don't know about throwing codes with removal, but I didn't have any cel's with my busted one. they are simply "one-way" valves. They do something, but likely just a passive safety system. If I had known at the time that they were just one way valves, I would have just glued up the one I had. Some high temp silicon would do the job just fine.

Re: In - Line Check Valves

Did you have some sort of drawing you went off of to determine which ones could be removed and how to hook up just regular lines? Why wouldn't you need at least just 1 check valve? Don't they serve a purpose or are they all useless?

Can you come up with more detailed pics of areas that have stoppers and where particular lines go? This could be a great how to for most of us to learn from for first timers like myself with turbo'd cars.

The hard plastic line connection to the airbox is the feed for the SAI pump. If you remove that or the SAi system, you will get a CEL.

The only thing that needs the 1" hose is the crank and valve cover breather, T those two together, then dump them under the car or into a catch can your choice. The suction pump can be removed, that gets rid of 3 check valves. You will then need to connect the brake booster directly to the intake manifold. The other 3 check valves that are small (black/grey) are for EVAP, one on top of the air box and two over under the intake manifold. That can removed if you wish, no CEL. You will need to keep the solenoid connected on the pass side of the car to the line coming from the fuel tank. The solenoid still needs to be able to purge vapor pressure build up from the tank. Everything after that solenoid on the passenger side can be removed, its connections to the TIP and to the intake manifold. The two check valves on the driver side are the feed lines for the charcoal canister in the drivers side wheel well. There are two quick disconnects for those lines right under the power steering fluid resevoir. Just disconnect them there unless you want to pull the canister and everything from the fenderwell. The only things remaining after that are the vac line feeds for the N112 and N249. N112 is for SAI, it needs to remain if your keeping SAI. N249 is how the ECU electronically controls the DV. It can be removed, just connect the DV directly to the intake manifold which yields quicker DV response from boost/vac pressure, NOT the ECU!

Hey would you wanna do a write up with pictures for all us guys that are still running non BT on how to remove all that crap and how to route the new hoses. That would be very appreciated.

Since you have a shop to run and all to make it worth your time a little more i can throw in $5 bux for this and Im sure a bunch of other people would have no problem donating $5 bux as well for your time on this.

$5 dollars on your makeing the writeup for how to reroute all this stuff is still cheaper then buying one of those stupid checkvalves let alone 5

Just let me know of your paypal and if you wanna do this and ill send 5 bux over.

    Thanks

My check valve above the airbox was damaged just the same as the one in the picture. Anyone know what this damage comes from? I was able to buy it from the audi dealer in town for about $20. No big deal.

oh yeah, and there are also two different check valves for the '03 1.8t that look almost identical and don't expect the parts guy at the dealership to know which one your car should have (or if it even matters).

Guys I plan on doing this....and I will take pics.

If I dont mess anything up, I will post a DIY,

Only one question: Why does the factory have these check valves from the getgo?

My guess would be that more stuff can break = get raped at the dealership for repairs.

Looking foward to your DIY good luck
