A4 or 08 GTI

my dad has given me the choice betwen getting a new GTI or keeping my 02 A4 and he"ll pay for anything I want for the car.
The A4 is already lowered, and has alot of other suspension upgrades.
What would you chose?

caution: when parent's make these deals they rarely mean 'ANYTHING'. usually they'll deem certain mods 'unnecessary or outrageous' like going BT, BAT, ect. or doing things like replacing perfectly good trim or seats just for a change. I had several friends back in school who made deals with their parents to buy cheaper cars in exchange for a 'mod allowance', and 9 times out of 10 the parents denied the mods later on.

it also depends on the condition and mileage on your B6. might be better go get something newer and do your own mods. with an 08 GTI you can build it to your liking with options/colors/transmission. A GTI is a fun car with minor mods, the B6 on the other hand, will need more extensive modding. But, at the end of the day, a nice Audi > VW. Tough choice.

I understand what you mean, and that was one of my concerns.
But he told me I can go BT.
We checked out alot of things.
He says that before I do anything I need to hang around to forum more to get more info.

In light of the Auto issue, I'd suggest getting a newer A4 with a manual. Maybe a B6 USP or B7 S-Line. If you want to stay clutchless, get the GTI in DSG.

ya well i'd recommend getting a GTI and getting it chipped or K04'd, dudes the guy is 16 if he goes BAT he has no idea how to manage the boost, machine shops, correctly install the stuff, and i don't think he wants to drive with no engine for 2 months lol!

you can upgrade your Torque Converter and Valve body to have quicker shifts and also holds much more power. 517 trannsmission is the place. pm me if you want to learn more.
the other thing is, you can buy my RNS-E if you want. we have denim blue exterior lo. you have the black interior right>? lucky boy even more

And I driver her like an angel, almost always under 3000 RPM. Dealer spent so far $7K on it in the last year alone. Good thing I have warranty. What do you expect from a 6 years old car? Thats when things start breaking, and am talking about major things: Turbo, cat, suspensions, and tons of other things here and there.

It might take I dont know how long before your 08 breaks and even if, it will be under warranty for a good 4 years at least (I hope.)

Audi looks and drives awesome, but if you dont have warranty, dont keep it. Just my own opinion.

This man speaks the truth. A4's are cool, but if its not a b7,b8,b9...go GTI.

Unless you are gonna do a BT then just sell it and get the GTI(the 2.0T of course). Because anything less than a BT on our a4's will get you nowhere in terms of competing with other cars. GTI's are lighter, faster stock, nice optional ground effects/wheels. Dont quote me but from what I've heard a chip will bring you to 250hp where as you would need a k04 to match that on the a4. Its not like you'd be ditching the a4 for some speed ricer. The gti is real nice looking and has real good potential. Plus the GTI is newer lol. Dont feel bad for leaving the a4 if the new car is a step up.

I'm thinking chip, turboback exhaust (with CEL delete of course), maybe a nice suspension setup, small stuff.

I vote for the GTI!! First of all, its a NEW car, and you can choose color, interior, etc. And second, you can reflash and have an awesome car modding it little by little!

i don't really like the new style either. looks too round and egg like. plus the interior dash sits too high. quality little hatchback though.

if I had to chose between my car and a new GTI, i'd stay A4. but if i had to choose between a nearly stock 02 A4 and a new GTI...it'd be GTI hands down. Modding, even with a nice budget, is a lot of work. I think a new GTI is a much better starting point.

Same here, I love in the interior of the A4, but then ask yourself: This year's car or a 6 years old car? Things look beautiful when they work, but sometimes I feel like dumping my car in the ocean from the amount of things it breaks from. I thought A4s are reliable until I started owning one. Took it to the dealer 10 times within one year. Yes, 10, if not more. My ex-11 years old ('97) Buick used to go to the garage much less frequently.

GTI 08 all the way. Let those dealers worry about the repairs, you dont want to spend thousands on mods on an old A4. Spend them instead on a 2008 and it sure will look sick as hell.

The GTI has red illumination also...only difference is where our gauges are backlit in white, the GTI is lit in blue....and it's pretty nice looking . The interior is on par with the A4 with all the same features. I would go with the GTI. With software and exhaust, it's got tons of torque

The car does look a little "cheaper" than the Audi Interior, but its still attractive, and the exterior does not look bad at all. I like it.

yeah, im 16 too. My car is blue like yours, and has the black interior.

but yeah, ive got to save up and work for my upgrades and mods. I even had to pay for quite a bit of the car. yes im lucky, you even more, and no dont do stupid sh*t with it either.

Even though the GTi is a nice option, as I have driven one with the DSG and know, Id still keep the audi. Its just much more classy :) Even if your friends tell you gti... just be prepared for repairs.

you 2 are lucky :) Am happy for you guys. I wish I had an Audi A4 at age 16.

One advice: drive it carefully, dont speed or race. Try to learn as much as possible how to do things yourself (am still doing that right now, and am behind!), and if you want to have fun, take it somewhere where there is no traffic, or even, anybody.

if you're seriously talking about anything then i dont see why not keep the A4. if you get the gti and have to keep it they way you buy it, you know you're gonna be tempted to just get "this" for it and then a month or so later want "that".
i say keep the A4. if you do, you'll find you'll have a lotta fun making it your own. and it doesn't necessarily need speed. i mean, speed is good, but "speed kills" or something like that...
get a nice body kit for it, but dont make it look like a ricer. do the whole interior. new seats. new everything. just have fun with it. be unique. people like whats different.

EDIT: But I'm only 17 and am new to this Audi scene. but its awesome. vdubs are good, but IMO saying "i drive an Audi" just sounds better :)

I already test drove the GTI w/ my dad and we both liked it.
It's a nice car, but my A4 handles alot better.
And my dad is trying to bribe me w/ the anything I want for the car because he doesn't want to sell it.
I was talking about it on another thread about how my sister had it before and and fu**** the interior and the engine, and transmition.
So my dad got a new engine from Germany, a new transmition and a new front suspension
He feels bad if he let's it go.

how did your sister manage to mess up the engine and the tranny? especially is its an auto? weird.
