Re: Best ebay FMIC and Piping?

s4 bumper can fit a pretty big core, has the most room out of all the bumpers. there is a thread about this, or i should say about 100 threads. CXracing is decent as far as ebay. That is who I went with.

Here's a thread of when I installed my FMIC on my A4 w/ the stock bumper. Scroll down and you'll see the dimensions of the it and all the pipes that were included in the kit.

I bought a goodspeed intercooler kit on ebay it was fairly good quality and came with a 400hp core and 2" piping that uses the stock throttle body hose but it does have a flange for the dv not bad considering the cheap price.

do any of the ebay kits come with the fittings in the piping for like the map sensor i believe? or anything like that, or do you have to cut and make your own fittings?

what is the recomended inlet size for bt setups? 2.5?

do you have one? cause i dont think anyone who has one has any complaints. its a pretty good deal if you ask me. as far as the map sensors for the dbw cars, theres a little flange you can get and weld on.

easy guys, this isn't Vortex or your local rice burner shit talking forum.

If it works and you're not picky, roll with it. I picked up my core from CXRacing, and I have not ran the pipes yet.
As far as a MAP bung I don't recall anybody supplying one other than the bigger companies. I know 034 supplies them with their BT silicone piping kit, as I have that. Unfortunately it doesn't work well with the K03 as the hot side doesn't fit right.

Re: Best ebay FMIC and Piping?

You should match the FMIC to the turbo not to your bumper and sorry but bigger doesn't mean better.

BONFIRE074 - Depends on the size of the turbo. You should try to use the same size pipe as that of the turbo outlet. So if the turbo has a 2" outlet you want a 2" pipe or can go up to 2.25" for this while using the same size cold side pipe or .25" larger. If you go to large you can decrease velocity which does effect boost lag and threshold.

Ideally, but will your car be slower with an improperly sized core, or slower when you can't put the bumper back on because nothing fits?

Well even a small FMIC is better then the stock SMIC. The bumper off isn't exactly going to make the car slower, there will just be more damage when you hit something at any speed and your chance for a ticket goes up.

look for 42 draft design, I believe that is the correct name. They will have a map sensor adaptor that you can use to attach to 2 or 2.25in piping

Last I checked ECS doesn't make shit, they just sell it. Especially FMIC setups. They sell APR and Forge stuff, but nothing branded "ECS Tuning".

I'm not going to call you, or anyone, an idiot on this topic. It's all in your preference. Ebay kits, intercoolers and other b/s works great for some. Especially those that don't want to spend $900-1100 on a FMIC setup.

Some of us don't like spending more than we make in a paycheck at a time.

Wow, I didn't know your Audi was made in China.

The ebay companies dont make their FMIC kits either, they have some 5-10 year old kids making it in China for 5 cents a day.

Do you buy crappy looking wheels for your car too just because they work? Because every Ebay fmic I have seen looks like it doesn't belong on the car at all. I guess some people would rather pay for something that is designed for the A4 and looks good enough to not make people point at it because it stands out like a sore thumb.

I'd love to buy a quality core and properly designed piping. The problem is located (or lack there of) in my bank account.
For what I want it'll work for now. On top of that, I'm working on something that I haven't seen done yet in the B5 world too. Which means scrapping some of my current plans and parts.

I'm not trying to piss in on your parade, I don't want to make any enemies. When I have the cash to do stuff right, 034 or yourself(mike) will probably be on the receiving end of my cash.

Oh I understand there are people that cant afford quality aftermarket parts and thats when Ebay usually comes into play. But as most people know, you get what you pay for.

At this point I didn't think there could be anything that hasn't been done on the B5, well unless your thinking of doing a jet engine in the car.

Hey if I was still in the Air Force, I would have stolen a jet engine from an AWACS for ya! 21k lbs of thrust sounds like a lot of fun!! Couldn't move the AWACS worth a shit but I am sure it could move your Avant! I mean, hey, your tax dollars paid for it right?
